Likes

Campus beauty, facilities provided, accessibility to different facets like mess, academic block, sports complex, library and vibrance in the campus. Of course, the way it is enveloped with rolling mountains and waking up to sunrise so beautiful.
The student culture is diversified with people hailing from different backgrounds, cultures and just to interact and learn from them. It is an experience which adds to you only for tomorrow you have to work in an organisation with diverse wokrforce.
The professors are so knowledgeable and accessible for any sort of assistance. It feels easier to seek their guidance on anything like Future aspirations or any competition or event participated in or organised in the college.

Dislikes

sometimes it is difficult to converse with supporting staff and when we visit the city outside campus as Telugu is not the regional language of many of us here. It does hinder in some way.
Placements recorded are good however, the ambiguity in job role and description is a major problem which can hinder the start of our corporate journey and impact the path ahead.
Some of the courses are given much more importance over others like Management Information System to Management Accounting. Both have their relevance but MIS granted more sessions over Management accounting doesn't seem relevant to me.

Different companies recruiting from the campus, various roles and packages being offered

The placements recorded for my college seem to get better and more promising with each year passing by. Currently, the number of companies visiting and offers made are somewhat limited however, with every passing year more are getting on board with a higher rate of conversions. The highest package offered as per the latest record was INR 42lac and the average is INR16.5 lac with 50% of the batch falling above the average range. The top 25% are approximately holders of the INR23lac package. The roles offered are Analyst, Wealth Management Trainee, Senior Analyst, Finance Analyst, area/territory sales manager, IT Consultant etc. Top recruiters are ICICI, IDBI, YES bank, State Street, Deloitte,EY, KPMG, Amul, Anand Rathi, and ICICI Lombard to name a few. The percentage of students placed are 100% inclusive of a few students who opted for an off-campus opportunity if better. The campus placements start right from Term 4 i.e. beginning the second year. My plans after degree is to work in the domain of finance.

Internship opportunities provided in the various organizations by the college

Many companies have participated in the internship process like EY, KPMG, ICICI Lombard, Goldman Sachs, DE Shaw, Deloitte, Mc Donalds, etc. with stipends offered ranging from INR 50,000 to 1,00,000. Many more companies like ICICI, Yes Bank, Integrace, and V guard participated too offering lucrative stipends and JDs with projects across all domains. A lot of startups came on board too offering internships to students in roles like Market research, Digital Marketing, and Business Development Associate. The duration of internships is 8 weeks with a requirement of working on a project in the lines of the intern role and responsibilities specified. For instance, one of the projects offered to be worked on is "Market Research on Risk Management Practices in Various Industries." The Project would entail working on it under the supervisor assigned along with the submission of deliverables as expected by the company. The outcomes generated help in clarifying a lot of tasks with assistance from the core team and aid the result

Various facilities and clubs present in the campus

The Campus is very aesthetic, scenic and filled with vibrance. Sunrise IIM as it is, the campus is surrounded with beautiful rolling mountains of Vizag. It is recently built with various sports facilities, spacious single occupancy rooms with huge cupboards, notice boards and almirah m(seems the best if I may say). The mess and cafeteria is huge and a go to for all for discussions over a cup of tea/coffee. Library is temproarily in academic block as of now and a huge building allocated on it is on the floors. But the availabality of resources is no short now with various business magazines, books, journals accessibility and is open till 9 p.m.The evenings are filled with bustling activities with students indulged in various sports and extracurriculars or some hitting the gym for those biceps. I am part of a Business and Public Policy Club myself as a Junior Coordinator and has been involved in organising events and competitions like Debate, MUN and it only adds to the student life.

Total fees of the course and scholarships availability in the college

The fee structure is divided into two years as it is a two year program with each year further divided into 3 terms. Each term has a stipulated fee of Rs 293375 with additional cautional deposit of Rs 30000. The amount is a total of various factor expenses like Program Fee, Hostel & Mess Fee, Welfare Activities. The Program fee is Rs 268375 for each term with an additional Hostel & Mess Charge of 25000. As we progressed to the Term1, there was a hike in Hostel & Mess charges owing to the fact that IIM Vizag is still under construction with major portion of the already reduced budget allocated towards it. So in order to maintain the existing quality of food and Ac services, an additional charge of Rs 7500 was levied for each term. The total fee structure now stands at INR 19lac. However, the course offers scholarships in lieu of merit and financial assitance. A merit scholarship of INR 6lac is offered to batch topper in 2nd year and anybody with family income of below INR 5 lac is given

Students view on course and subjects being covered in the curriculum

Unlike the traditional teaching style and material taught uuntil now, the curriculum is vast, serves mutilple facets and incorporates real business scenario building & learning. the pedagogy is meticulously designed to equip one to deal with real business challenges pertaining to different subjects like Strategy, Ethics, Entrepreneurship with the help of simulations, case discussions. It prepares you with a critical bent of mind and problem solving ability. Untimately, we all have to step outside in the real business realm and apply our rationale and learning. With teaching around maximum practical life aspects, it prepares you for real business world and its impending challenges. Also, the curriculum is comprehensive including case pedagogy, group study, projects, exams testing classroom learning and textbook application to practical questions asked. The curriculum offers a true learning process on so many levels like Knowledge, Teamwork, Time Management, Speaking/Presentation skills.

What are various facilities provided in college hostel?

The Hostels here are constructed both for Boys and Girls separately. Each hostel is divided into three floors with each floor having two separate wings further. Entire hostel pool has single spacious accomodation with various facilities provided like AC,bed, cupboard,bulletin board,multiple lamps, bedlight, almirah with a common washroom for each wing. The room quality is top-notch and impressive.The mess constructed is huge too with a cafeteria beneath it which is a go-to for all folks here. The food quality is really beyond expectations as it serves various dishes considering the tastes of all students hailing from different parts of India like North,South. The registration process for the two was not separate. The fee allocate towards Hostel & Mess is 25000 each term expected to be paid at the beginning of each term only. Rooms were allocated on chit basis at the time of admission. The only drawback was hike due to budget constraints of Rs7500 per term to maintain the quality.

How to get admission in the college?

I sat for other entrance exams as well besides writing the CAT. I applied for SNAP and IIFT later on once I had written CAT. Speaking on CAT, i.e. Common Admission Test requires any candidate to be either in their final year of graduation or is a passout with a minimum graduation score of 60% was the eligibility. Any interested candidate was required to access the application form curated for IIMs a separate portal for the same. On that particular portal, the registration was opened in the first week of Aug till Sep end. Then, it will generate a Register ID for you for further access. In the CAT form, there were multiple sections asking for your personal/background details, Educational, Employment (if any), and preferred IIMs with a fee of Rs2500. The CAT exam was conducted in November end with medium to high-level difficulty across all sections. After CAT, I took SNAP (1hr exam with Rs 2250 excluding college ) which is easier but tests your speed and IIFT (3hrs) which was relatively lengthy.

Now candidate has to show interest in the course by paying some fees on the college portal and then college will give interview call. Admission:

The MBA course required the candidate to write the CAT exam which is conducted yearly in November. The result is declared in the first month of Januaryhe couse requires a cutoff marks of above 90 percentile for General category students for getting the shortlist at the institute. Once the cut off criteria has been cleared there are 2 processes in-line for the shortlisted candidate, GD and PR. These have been made convinient post COVID wherein the Institue provides the option for both Online as well as Offline mode, preferences are filled in by the candidate but the decision is with the Institute in question. The process is pretty straight forward and well elicited in the follow up mails, received over the official mail id. There s generally a pre process talk and then the candidates are divided into grops for further process. My personal experience was quite positive.

I like the campus of IIM Visakhapatnam, it has one of the best hostels with state of the art infrastructure which makes our life very comfortable and gives us the environment so that we should freely focus on our curriculum and development.
The college scenic beauty, because our college is situated outside the city and the mountains are surrounding the campus from all the three sides and thus the campus presents a very beautiful and eye-catching image which lives in memory forever.

Dislikes

The student immersion program is still not operational so the students lacks in International exposure and thus the students of our college are not able to get the exposure of the foreign universities, which students of different IIM are having.
The campus is still under construction and still it lacks in some of the basic facilities, which will be provided to the future batches of the college, like properly constructed auditorium, library and different rooms for clubs and committees.

Admission:

So, to get admission to the Indian Institute of Management, Visakhapatnam, you have first to clear the Common Admission Test exam, which is conducted once a year based on your percentile in the CAT exam, the shortlisted candidates will have to undergo a Personal Interview round and based on the cumulative scores, students are shortlisted for admission. The CAT exam is a multiple choice exam with moderate difficulty level and it has three sections namely Quantitive aptitude, Verbal ability, reading comprehension and data interpretation, and logical reasoning. After clearing the set cutoff of IIMV, which is 80, 72,72,45,35 (only for shortlisting of Phase 1, the final cutoff will be high) for UR, EWS, OBC, SC, ST, calls for PI round will be sent to students in Jan to Feb and in March PI process will take place, and after that based on the cumulative scores candidates are selected in May to June. TCS:

Being in TCS, you will be surrounded by fast-paced engineering graduates, working in IT.
Usually, candidates working in TCS get enough (sometimes a lot of) time for preparation of CAT, GMAT, etc. This sort of preparation is even enough for getting a seat in old IIMs. Adding to the advantage, the work experience you will have would help you score even better than fresh academics.

IIM Visakhapatnam:

On the other hand, joining IIM Visakhapatnam has a different set of advantages and disadvantages. Being a new IIM, the faculty and infrastructure are being established with time.
In a new IIM, you will get the chance to learn a lot from the development of new committees and clubs, which proves to be quite important later.
The mentoring institute, i.e. IIM Bangalore brings an excellent set of faculties and industry experts for a top-level coaching and management education. But, the placement here is the main concern. Being a new IIM, the institute cannot even compete with top private B-Schools in India, which is a serious disadvantage.
The government of Andhra Pradesh is promoting a lot of Startups to make good prospects. A start-up village is set up in Vizag.

Overall, the above factors give a brief overview of the scenarios in both choices. The final decision is yours, whether to join the IT industry, get prepared, and crack CAT, or take up IIM Visakhapatnam and get a dive into the unexplored opportunities.

How is the mess food at IIM Visakhapatnam?

The utensils of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian are separate and so are the cutlery.

The horse-shoe-shaped classrooms are the highlight of its infrastructure. There are 2 whiteboards with projectors each. The new IIMs still lack this facility

Which is better: IIM Vizag, IIM Nagpur, or NMIMS Mumbai?

My friend was in a similar dilemma a few years ago. She had offers from NMIMS, SIBM and IIM Nagpur. She wasn’t sure if choosing a new IIM over these B Schools would be a wise decision. Yet she chose Nagpur in the end. Some major reasons that led her to choose it were

- Campus: IIM Nagpur and Vizag both have their own residential campus and amazing hostel facilities. It helps you make new friends and spend time in extracurricular activities and group discussions once your classes are over NMIMS on the other hand lacks hostel facilities
- Location: Nagpur and Vizag both have a location advantage over other new IIMs in the sense that they have airport facilities promoting connectivity.NMIMS enjoys the best location and many top firms visit the campus because of it. But in reality, it is only the ones with the best profiles that get good roles; others are offered average packages only.
- ROI: NMIMS does not offer a good ROU because of its high living expenses. Nagpur leads in this aspect because of minimal living expenses, lower fees than other IIMs, and similar packages.
- Placements: NMIMS has developed a strong alumni base and therefore attracts many top firms. But like I mentioned above, 80% of the batch is offered average roles. It’s only the ones with spectacular profiles that get the best roles. IIMs have a balanced placement scenario in contrast.
- Brand Value: Despite the unending debate, one cannot deny the brand value of the IIM tag. There are certain HRs from top organizations who still prefer IIM students over other top B Schools. This is the sole reason why the new IIMs give an edge to B Schools like IMT, SIBM Pune, etc.

Based on the above parameters you have to make a decision according to your preferences. My friend was glad she chose IIM Nagpur and it helped her uplift her career through various opportunities.

Classrooms

The classroom facilities at IIM Visakhapatnam are no joke and even IIM Bangalore professors were impressed by the classroom infrastructure. The classrooms are horse-shoe shaped elevated at every step to facilitate better professor and student contact.

Library

For book lovers, IIM Vishakhapatnam’s library is heaven. The vast library with 24-hour accessibility makes it one of the best. The librarian is very polite and is always on the hunt of bringing the best reads to the library. She even meets the professors and asks for their recommendations for the same. The library also has around 25 different subscriptions. Some of them include The Economist, EPW, Harvard Business Review, and MIT Sloan management.

Faculty

Most of the faculty is from the top B school IIM Bangalore and speaks of credibility. They are learned, experienced and passionate about teaching.

Crowd

Your batchmates will be people from various backgrounds, professions, and cultures. This ensures an all-round learning experience.

So people choose IIM Visakhapatnam over other IIMs because of such facilities and the best opportunities it has to offer.

Which one is better, IIM Vizag or IIM Kashipur?

I would deem IIM Kashipur as a far better choice than IIM Vizag. Some vital points that favor my inclination are

Legacy: Being older than IIM Vizag, IIM Kashipur has a much stronger and widespread alumni network.
Infrastructure: The outstanding infrastructure of IIM Kashipur cannot be compared to that of Vizag. It has amazing hostel facilities, a library, well-equipped classrooms, and libraries.
Location: IIM Kashipur enjoys a better location than Vizag. But location cannot be the only deciding factor.
Pedagogy: The learning environment and process are much more enhanced at IIM Kashipur. Under the mentorship of IIM Lucknow, Kashipur has successfully adapted to the teaching methods of older IIMs consisting of exams, events, and placements.
Ranking: Because of a better alumni base, IIM Kashipur enjoys better brand recall. Hence it has better rankings.

All these points clearly state that IIM Kashipur is a better choice than IIM Vizag.

Which is a better choice among IMI New Delhi, IIM-N and IIM-V? Why?

You must look into the opportunities available for student involvement and well-being, such as clubs, societies, sports, cultural events, and corporate competitions. Check the corporate competition section of the school's website to see which companies participate, the positions secured by students, and the number of winners. Good performance in corporate competitions can indicate peer quality and highlight the institute among recruiters. While the brand IIM tag may benefit baby IIMs, established institutes may have better locations, student activities, and industry and alumni connections.

Choosing between these depends on your priorities. IIM Kashipur has a high average salary of INR 20+ lpa but has a mid-range fee structure of around INR 15 lakhs. IIM Vizag offers lower fee structure of INR 12 lakhs and a decent average salary of iNR 16.6 lpa. However, XIMB has a strong reputation but higher fees of INR 20 lakhs+ and a similar average salary to IIM Vizag. For a higher average salary, IIM Kashipur might be better. XIMB offers a good balance but with steeper costs.

IIM Visakhapatnam is a promising new IIM with a lot to offer. The college doesn’t have any legacy as such but it has a 100% placement record and an average salary more than INR 16 lakhs. The average fees are student-friendly, around INR 12 lakhs for the program. It offers modern infrastructure within the Andhra University campus, offering a scenic environment to study.

You need to have passed UG degree to be eligible for admission to PG courses, however for PGDM course, you are eligible with diploma course.

Yes, As IIM visakhapatnam offers residential courses therefore staying in hostel is mandatory. The hostel of IIM visakhapatnam has all basic amenities.
