Placement Experience:

After 1 trimester i.e. September month, Summer placement starts and it goes on till February and march and same goes with final placement. During final placements, some of the students also get PPO from their internship companies. KPMG, Infosys, EY, PWC are some of the top companies that visit this campus. Highest package for the batch of 2024 was around 42 LPA and average was around 16-17 LPA. Its a recently opened IIM but with the time its placement is getting improved with increment in the alumni base. Placement is also dependent on market condition and batch size.

Placements recorded are good however, the ambiguity in job role and description is a major problem which can hinder the start of our corporate journey and impact the path ahead.

Placement Experience:

The placements recorded for my college seem to get better and more promising with each year passing by. Currently, the number of companies visiting and offers made are somewhat limited however, with every passing year more are getting on board with a higher rate of conversions. The highest package offered as per the latest record was INR 42lac and the average is INR16.5 lac with 50% of the batch falling above the average range. The top 25% are approximately holders of the INR23lac package. The roles offered are Analyst, Wealth Management Trainee, Senior Analyst, Finance Analyst, area/territory sales manager, IT Consultant etc. Top recruiters are ICICI, IDBI, YES bank, State Street, Deloitte,EY, KPMG, Amul, Anand Rathi, and ICICI Lombard to name a few. The percentage of students placed are 100% inclusive of a few students who opted for an off-campus opportunity if better. The campus placements start right from Term 4 i.e. beginning the second year. My plans after degree is to work in the domain of finance.

IIM Vizag is one of the premier institutes of India, currently ranked 29 in the NIRF ranking. The Institute has a remarkable track record of achieving 100% placements each year. The placement data of IIM Visakhapatnam for the year 2022-23, gives us a glimpse of how nicely this college is trying to provide one of the best placements among the top tier 3, MBA colleges in India. In the last placement year, which starts from the month of September to February of the next year, 100% of students got placed with the highest package of 32.62 lakhs(CTC), with an average package of 16.61 lakhs and a median package of 16 lakhs. The placement process starts in November, both the official placements and some of the students get pre-placement offers(PPO) from the companies where they did summer internships. How did IIM Visakhapatnam do better at placements than some of the second generation IIMs?

IIM Visakhapatnam had a lot of help from IIM Bangalore for placements in the first few batches. A pool summer placement process was organized at Bangalore for the first three batches. This resulted in students interning at companies like Cloudtail and Directi. If you are lucky, you will find colleagues from colleges like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, XLRI, and FMS.

The internship is a great opportunity for you and it will pose a strong point in job interviews. Moreover, my advice to you would be to network as much as possible. You will probably earn a 6 figure monthly stipend during the summer internship. Eventually, as students began to perform well and some of them at par with the top three IIMS (ABC), PPOs began loyally recruiting students from the college.

These job profiles are the same as those offered at IIM Bangalore. An example of this would be that of Bosch. It offers a Junior Manager’s program available only to premier campuses like IIM Bangalore, IIFT Delhi, etc. as seen on LinkedIn. It even has an international visit to Germany included.

Another major reason would be that this industry prefers students who have previously done summer internships. This PPO percentage was higher for the first two batches from IIM Visakhapatnam since most of the students were taught by IIM Bangalore professors.

Here are some other statistics for placements at IIM Visakhapatnam:

Many IIM V students are at the consultant level at the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
The batch size of the first two years was only 50.
Since most of the students were taught by IIM B faculty, they have more knowledge and experience.
