5 Reasons to join IIM Rohtak

  1. Selection Criteria: IIM Rohtak is a great place for students who scored an excellent CAT score but cannot maintain the sectional cutoff criteria for IIMs, as IIM Rohtak solely focuses on the overall CAT score. Therefore, students with good C.A.T. Percentile can be admitted without sectional cutoff limitations.
  2.  Strategic Location: As the IIM Rohtak is situated near Delhi NCR, It has the great advantage of the location to attract great placement companies for their students and sponsors for major events; it is also beneficial for the students to have this excellent connectivity for the moment and all.
  3.  Robust Growth: IIM Rohtak was only established in the year 2010; in this period, it delivered great placement reports and jumped high in the national rankings; one example is the NIRF Rankings in the Management Institute, which was 28th for IIM Rohtak in 2021, but currently, it jumped up to 12th for in 2024, which shows a significant growth of IIM Rohtak in the recent years.
  4.  Diverse Culture: IIM Rohtak has a 45:55, Male to Female ratio, which is great if we compare it with any other top management Institute, and is among one of the fewest institutes that have more female students than male students. Highlighting IIM Rohtak's focus on gender diversity. Additionally, IIM Rohtak focuses on academic background, and this rich environment allows students to learn from each other and broaden their scope of knowledge
  5.  Diverse Courses: IIM Rohtak is one of the only five IIMs that provides an Integrated Program in Management, and apart from this, IIM Rohtak also offers an Integrated Programme in Law, which makes the environment diversified and filled with different domain students, which makes the academic environment better for learning.

Admission to Convocation

What are the various learning and examination methods being followed in the campus?

  • The courses were structured with subjects assigned credits based on the number of classes.
  • Case based pedagogy is used in all the subjects.
  • A one-credit course consisted of 20 classes, with the last two classes reserved for project presentations.
  • In first year on an average 3 classes take place daily, sometimes 4 sometimes 2 but generally 3.
  • After the classes, mostly all professors give an assignment either the "learning sheet" of that day's class or decision sheet for the next case study.
  • It was mandatory to maintain a minimum of 80% attendance in each subject.
  • If one fail to complete attendance in any of the subjects, they are marked 'F' in that subject straight forward and the college is very strict about it they do not entertain any reason behind the leave.
The grading pattern was typically structured as follows:
  • 30% Midterm
  • 30% End-term
  • 20% Project presentation
  • 10% Quiz
  • 10% Class participation
  • The mid and end term exams are descriptive answer based while the quiz is mostly MCQ based.
  • In the project presentation, we have to form groups, generally 5-6 people and work on a project based on the topic given by the faculty or of our own choice (related to the subject).

Internship opportunities provided by the college

Placements at IIM Rohtak occur on a rolling basis, with companies visiting the campus throughout the year, from as early as August until March. Despite the placement committee's best efforts to secure opportunities for every student, challenges arose due to the increased batch size. The committee worked diligently to provide numerous opportunities for all students. However, concerns about the upcoming recession and a downturn in the market affected the offered CTC (cost to company) and the number of hires, even from loyal recruiters. As a result, the outcomes did not meet the expectations of many students compared to previous batches. During SIP time, some students had to find internships on their own too.

Companies recruiting from the campus, highest and average package being offered

Final placements at IIM Rohtak are always on a better note as compared to internships. Companies started visiting the campus as early as July and kept on coming until March end so it's a non stop process and you have to be always ready to wear your suit and go for an interview. Companies like ICICI, Capgemini and Cognizant are the mass recruiters for IIM Rohtak with each one of them hiring around 20-25 people from our batch paying 14-16 LPA. The overall average was around 18-19 LPA with the highest around 48.

Fees structure and merit based scholarships available in the campus

The fee structure for the MBA program was as follows: The first trimester fee was ₹4,20,000, which included all charges such as tuition fees, hostel charges, mess charges, and a security deposit. The second term fee, payable before the start of the second semester, was ₹3,15,000. The third term fee was ₹2,85,000. After returning from the summer internship program, the fee installment was ₹4,10,000. The fees for the fifth and sixth terms were ₹3,15,000 and ₹2,85,000, respectively. The total amount paid across all terms amounted to ₹20,30,000. The college offers scholarships to the top 10 rank holders of the batch and also awards different medals such as Gold medal for academic excellence, all rounder medal etc.

College events and various facilities available across the campus

The campus life is very busy, you are always doing something be it day or night. There are TT tables available in almost all the dorms and anytime you go, even at 3AM someone is always playing. However the college does lack a lot on the outdoor sports part, there is a ground but it is not maintained well enough, the same field is used for cricket and football (these being the most played sports at our college). Even the basketball court is used for futsal. The facility for badminton is really good though, there are 3 indoor courts available which are well maintained. There is a gym near the badminton courts but in very bad condition, old machines, no ventilation, small area. There are 2-3 dhabas just outside the campus which are a popular hangout spot for all the students as the city is 30-35 minute far from the campus. They are also more popular because of no cafeteria inside the campus except for one nescafe which also has only snacks option and nothing more than that. The locality is not as much safe at night as there has been previous incidents with people misbehaving with girl so I would advice to avoid travelling at night time. There is a shuttle facility from campus to the city which is the best option if someone wants to go. As per now there is no international exchange program at IIM Rohtak but the admin is trying to collaborate with colleges outside India. The major fest at the campus is "Naqsh" which happens in January, it is a 3 day long event which includes various sports competitions, media summits and a concert at the last day, Mr. Jasbir Jassi performed in the last fest.

Students view on facilities provided by the college and hostel

Hostel accommodation is mandatory for the MBA program, and the dorm system is in place. The dorms are close to the academic block as well, it hardly take 5 minutes to walk to the classrooms or the library, the mess is also just behind the PGP dorms. Girls and boys hostel are different, there are 3 dorms for each of them and one guard for boys' dorms and one for girls' dorms. The mess menu changes in each term with the suggestions taken from the students. There are no timings to enter or leave the hostel, timings are for leaving the campus, students can go out on 4 days: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and have to return to campus by 10:30 PM. There is a nescafe which is open till 9PM, apart from that there were no other stores during my time at the campus. Each room is equipped with an air conditioner and provides access to hot water. There is a private washroom for every room. There is a wifi router available in every flat (each flat has 3-4 rooms), the speed of wifi is slow so we bought our own router and connected it to the LAN. Bunk beds are there in every room with 2 tables and chairs and one almirah in each room. The primary issue with the accommodation is the double-sharing system, which is a result of insufficient dormitory space. The rooms are well-suited for single occupancy, sharing them is challenging and is an area for improvement for the college. The cleaning staff is available for service daily except for sunday, one can get their room cleaned daily if they get the time for the same. There are total 3 floors in every dorm (Ground, first, second), and there are common rooms on ground and first floor in each dorm. Some of them have TT table in them too.

What are the process involved and eligibility criteria in taking admission in the college?

The admission process involve minimum 95 percentile in CAT exam for general category, to be considered for next round of admission which was Personal Interview. My PI happened online, there were 2 panelists, one of them asked about my life experiences and questions about my previous internships. The other panelist asked me general knowledge questions and made me solve some basic mathematics question. This pattern was common among many other people too. The classes started from 1st July 2022 and we had to report to the campus on 30th June 2022.

Students view on faculties and cultural diversity

The faculty members were generally highly experienced in their fields and demonstrated strong clarity in their subjects. However, during my last semester, several faculty members left the college and were replaced by less experienced professors. Our batch was the first batch to merge with the IPM batch, so the total strength came to be around 330-340 which had around 40% freshers and the girls to boys ratio close to 7:3. For the first year 5 sections were created with class strength of 65-70. I had a batchmate from almost every state of India, this is the level of diversity we had at the college. I personally had a lot of friends from Madhya Pradesh. The classes are very informative and as the college follows case based approach for every subject, we get to step into the shoes of the protagonist of the case and make decision based on our understanding and then discuss all our different perspectives in the classrooms which gives a more boost to the subject and provide for different approaches to one situation. And yes there is also a component of class participation in most of the subjects.

Strong Alumni network of the college

  • I applied to all the IIMs, MDI, and FMS, converted some other baby and new IIMs too.
  • The main reason behind choosing IIM Rohtak over other IIMs was its location being near to Delhi NCR region, making the commute easy for recruiters and for me to my home too.
  • Also the alumni base of the college is very strong; I read about various alumni who were now in top management of reputable firms.

As a person who got admission in SLS Noida, Christ, KIIT, and IIM, I chose IIM as it is a government college that already has a well-established alumni for management and gives a stronger network base for a person who is more inclined towards a corporate law setup. For admission, you can either apply through CLAT scores or IPMAT scores, followed by a personal interview process and final selection would be based on them.

As for the admission process, it was not much of a lengthy thing. it was short and just a day's process. selected students got an email offering provsional admission to the course. You had to pay the offer acceptance amount of 1 lakh by a stipulated date and then report on campus on the specified date. it took about an hour to fulfill all the formalities and the hostels were allotted subsequently. the orientation was conducted over the next three days. every 12th pass student with more than 60% can apply. i think there is an age cap of 20 yrs. They take admissions through IPMAT Rohtak and CLAT. i think the admission through CLAT is easier as people with even 5000-6000 rank made to the PI round. overall admission experience was smooth

To be eligible for the exam the student should have scored minimum 70 percent and for those under reservation category 65 percent. IIM Rohtak: 36 Answered Questions

How is the IPM program at IIM Rohtak?

Himani RawatIIM Rohtak

IIM Rohtak has been ranked at an impressive 12th rank in NIRF 2023 rankings. People have doubts about joining IIM Rohtak as it stands below the top IIMs. However, IIM Rohtak is rapidly growing and achieving new heights and you should not worry about choosing IIM Rohtak for your studies.

The IPM is a 5-year integrated management program at IIM Rohtak. On completion of this program, you will receive a BBA+MBA degree. If you attain a 5.0 CGPA in your first three years, then only will you be eligible to continue for the next two years for your MBA. Otherwise, you will exit the program with a BBA degree with a CGPA not below 4.0.

Even if you wish to exit the course after 3 years, you can do so by informing the office within the stipulated time in the third year of the course. Instead of joining another institution for your BBA and then trying for IIM A/B/C through your CAT, you should join the IPM program at IIM Rohtak. Even if you do not score as much in your CAT, you will have the backup plan of completing your MBA from IIM Rohtak (in this case you will get a single CAT attempt in November third year). Most students from the IPM program at IIM Rohtak give their CAT or GMAT in the third year. So if you wish to switch to another higher-ranking IIM or go for a foreign MBA, you can do so.

The IIM Rohtak campus offers all the facilities to its students and you will also enjoy life at Rohtak in general. Rohtak is only 70 km away from Delhi so the international airport is only an hour or two’s drive from the IIM Rohtak campus.

The cost for the course is around INR 36 Lakhs, which is on the expensive side. However, you also get to stay at IIM for 5 years and learn from some of the best teachers in India.

You can consider the fee structure, placements, and other aspects before joining the program. However, if you do make up your mind, the IPM course at IIM Rohtak is a good choice.

Is IPM IIM Rohtak worth it?

Arun SharmaMBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Graduated 2020)

IIM Rohtak is a very newly established IIM that has yet to make its place in the IIM family. Because of its recent establishment people deem it not worthy of the IIM tag. But in reality, it’s gradually picking up pace and by the time its first batch will graduate (2024), it will have climbed the ladder higher.

People think the IPM program offered by IIM Rohtak is a backdoor for people who want to escape the CAT exam. In reality, most of the students plan to give CAT or GMAT or both at the end of their third year.

Even if one compares Rohtak and Indore, we can clearly see that Rohtak is way ahead of Indore. The first batch placements of Rohtak are better than Indore.

Some consider the lack of connectivity and cost also a reason why Rohtak is not worth it. But let me shed some light on this matter. Rohtak is just 70 km away from Delhi. The International airport is just an hour or two 's drive from the campus. So the connectivity issue is resolved here. As far as the cost is considered, one should not underestimate the 5 years he will be spending at an IIM campus with top-notch facilities and the most learned faculty and brilliant peers. All the investment is worth it. The final decision is yours to make but does remember that IIM Rohtak will have climbed the ladder in just a few years.

Vaibhav KumarIPM from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Expected 2024)

Before explaining to you the CAP process convened by IIM Rohtak let’s discuss in brief what exactly CAP is.

CAP stands for Common Admission Process. It is a single admission process conducted by the following IIMs alternatively: IIM Ranchi, IIM Trichy, IIM Rohtak, IIM Raipur, IIM Udaipur, or IIM Kashipur. Under this process, the candidate has to give a WAT/PI(Written Ability Test/Personal Interview) process under CAP. All the member institutes will be given the scores of this test and based on their respective criteria, each institute will declare its own list of shortlisted candidates.

CAP process

Let’s discuss the various steps involved in this admission process

  • Fill in your choices of IIMs in the CAT form.
  • When CAT results are declared, the institutes under CAP make a shortlist based on their own criteria.
  • The IIM which is organizing the CAP that year collects the shortlisted candidates' names from other institutes and informs them about the CAP IIMs which have shortlisted them for WAT/PI.
  • The shortlisted candidates will have received a CAP link which they have to duly fill out. He will also be informed about the date and location of the CAP process.
  • On the stipulated date, the candidate will have to appear for the WAT/PI process.
  • All the institutes under CAP will receive the details of the score of this process and will release their own final shortlist.

Starting in 2018, every candidate has to appear for CAP irrespective of which IIM they belong to.

How did your IPM AT IIM Rohtak go?

Sabeer Chalana
Sanyam SharmaIIM Rohtak

Below is the experience of an IIM Rohtak student who did his IPMAT during covid.

It was always going to be difficult to conduct a fair online exam in this day and age, but IIM Rohtak took the exam to an all-time low. The following are the highlights of the exam:

The online exam was conducted in an 'open book' format, using Google Forms and no effort was made to proctor the exam - which means students could have their friends and family assist them using Google, WhatsApp, Zoom, and any other technology they could think of. After 45 minutes, the form would not even submit itself. To pass the test, the student had to maintain their integrity.

Every student had the same paper, in the same order. It's no surprise that within minutes of the exam starting, WhatsApp and Facebook groups were flooded with questions and answers. Most students are required to submit answers that they have simply copied from the internet.

Some of the questions were difficult to answer. This is especially true when the paper setters fail to include the accompanying diagram to logical reasoning questions.

Can you become a professor in IIMs or IITs after FPM from new IIMs, like Rohtak or Raipur?

Biplab RoyMBA Strategy and Operations, Indian Institute of Management Raipur

Becoming a professor from the new IIMs is definitely possible but rare. The FPM program offered at the new IIMs has varied peers some being freshers while some with Masters from foreign universities.

The following things matter when selecting an Assistant Professor in a new IIM

  • Your experience
  • The quality of your papers

The chances are rare because most of the new IIMs have professors who have done Ph.D. from older IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Calcutta. Ph.D. is a program that totally depends on your performance and research. The initial years focus solely on research training and cannot be enough to make you eligible for faculty positions.

So your chances are rare but not null.

IPMAT IIM Rohtak considers past academic records as well but I have got 70% in my 12th boards with extremely low marks in maths. Do I have a chance to get into IIM Rohtak? If yes, then how?

Arindam BanerjeeStudied at Delhi University (2019)

IIM Rohtak offers admission based on your potential and not solely on the marks previously obtained. When the interviewer enquires of you regarding your low percentage, you should honestly answer him/her.

Instead of faltering and mumbling your answers you should confidently speak out your answers. Even if you would be at fault your interviewer would let it slide given that you are not doubtful of your own self. Try not to use any falsehood around them and notably maintain your calm.

One can be of the view that your personality impresses your interviewers. In some cases, this view could be true. Maintain your calm and confidence in yourself and you will crack the interview.

Should I join IIM Rohtak? I’m a fresher, graduation scores are bad so even if I join, would I get a good placement offer?

Mayank Badhwar
Anubhuti ShekharBusiness Technology Analyst at Deloitte (company) (2020–present)

If you graduated from a top-tier college in your field of study and have excellent niche technical and professional skills, your market value rises. In this case, if you have a job offer that meets your short- and long-term career goals and you're happy with the remuneration, challenges, and learning environment, you should consider accepting it and postponing your MBA by a year or so. A few years of professional experience will undoubtedly boost your CV and qualify you for top-tier B-schools in India and abroad.

Alternatively, if you don't already have a satisfying job offer or want to pursue your master's degree for other reasons, IIM Rohtak is a good option.

If you don't have a job offer and only want to pursue an MBA from a top-tier MBA program, this is a difficult decision to make. Firstly, wasting a year in preparation is not worth it. You may believe that with a high score, you will be able to pass the exam next year and gain admission to top B-schools, but the truth is that even MBA colleges frown upon a gap year in their admission interviews, and it is difficult to account for when interviewing for placements and jobs.

Go for IIM Rohtak and make the most of the opportunities there. In reality, it is a central government-sponsored institution with standard and excellent academics, curriculum, and campus infrastructure.

Is it compulsory to stay in the hostel at IIM Rohtak for all 5 years while doing IPM there? Also, do they have a rigid academic session where 90 attendance is compulsory?

Yash ChandraStudies at Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Expected 2024)

Yes, IPM and the majority of other programs are offered entirely in residence on all IIM campuses.

For the purpose of clarification, the attendance policy is actually 100% mandatory (at least on paper). You must now obtain permission to miss classes and leave campus. Medical emergencies, urgent family functions, and so on are examples of exceptions.

Other rules that affect the daily lives of students are:

  • Night curfews: First-year students are not permitted to leave their hostels after 10:30 p.m. Things become more relaxed as you advance in maturity level.
  • Lights out time: During the first month, this is usually strictly enforced until you get acclimatized. The light-out time was mostly kept on paper then.
  • Yoga: Yoga classes are required five days a week.
  • Restriction: You can leave campus without permission only on Sundays; otherwise, a gate pass is required. Again, as you become senior, this becomes less strict.
  • Discipline: Yes, there have been terminations based on disciplinary issues such as drinking, PDAs, and so on. As the other answer stated, you can't really escape.
