The eligibility criteria for the PGP program at IIM Shillong require candidates to hold a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 60% in both 10th and 12th grades. Admission is facillitated through the CAT score, with the exam taking place in the month of November every year. Application forms are available from August. Applicants can apply for all IIMs ,including IIM Shillong through CAT form. As a General category candidate, I did not avail any reservation benefits. Notably , IIM shillong assigns a 15% weightage to work experience , and my direct offer was based on an evaluation of 85%. It's worth mentioning that freshers may need to invest additional effort in the GD and PI processes at IIM Shillong. Interestingly , IIM Shillong uniquely conducts GD before PI , unlike other IIMs.

I appeared for CAT(Common Admission Test) and scored 99.34%ile, and the cut for admission to IIM Shillong is also in the same range. The application form for this college was in the CAT form itself. The admission process was online, the only improvement that I want to see in future is that the admission process going online in the upcoming years.
The admissions process at all IIMs is nearly identical. It all begins with an application for the Common Admission Test, or CAT. When applying for the CAT, pick the programme PGPM under College name to be considered for admission to IIM Shillong. If you wish to attend this prestigious college, you must achieve a high percentile on the CAT or GMAT exam. Following the completion of the application form, a Group Discussion or Personal Interview round for the relevant course will be held. The offer letter will then be given to the selected students.
The admission process for all IIMs is almost the same. It starts by applying for CAT which is the Common Admission Test. In order to be eligible for admission to IIM Shillong, select the program PGPM under College name while applying for CAT. Every IIM has its own shortlist criteria for candidates. IIM Shillong to release its cutoff list and criteria. The candidates who meet minimum score are called for further process
I had applied for the Institute of Rural Management Anand and Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar. I decided to choose IIM Shillong as it provided a larger pool of opportunities and had better rankings as compared to my other options. The eligibility criteria for the program is that the candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree with at least 50% marks for General candidates. Indian students are required to qualify for the CAT. The admission process was very smooth, followed by an induction process.
I cleared the CAT and applied for all the IIM'S including CAP which Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta. Lucknow, Kozhikode, Shillong, and all the 10 IIM's which come under CAP and also the 4 baby IIM's and out of the colleges mentioned I was able to clear Shillong all the Cap's and the baby IIM'S and the reason for joining Shillong were many and to name a few A better Alum Base. Better Placements. College was older. The reputation of the college. Tackling with the Alumnis. I had the SC Quota through which I got the required admission and they check. The admission criteria was a Case Bases GD and also in addition there is no such thing as minimum marks as the admission process has a very big weightage given to the interview so there is no lower limit to the marks you would have to enter the college. The process was fairly smooth and the counseling day was fairly quick and you had to submit the required documents which included the 10th 12th and the undergraduate mark sheets.
The admission criteria consist of below three steps. 1. Shortlisting candidates on the basis of cat score and calling them for the next process 2. Conducting case study-based group discussion followed by an interview. 3. Shortlisting candidates for admission on the basis of accumulated cat score, 10th grads, 12th grad, graduation score, and GDPI performance.
We don not have any specializations in IIM Shillong. Instead we can select from a variety of courses offered in different domains in our 2nd year. Some of the faculty are outstanding but most are average. We also get very good guest faculties from other top IIMs and abroad. Our course got delayed due to covid 19 but exams were still done in a timely manner. Difficulty level was moderate.
My experience till now is utterly online. Since I've not visited campus yet. There are around 250 students in our batch and around 200 students in the senior batch. And it is common to all the IIMs that there are 3 terms in a year. We have good faculty in Shillong as well. We have permanent faculty in Shillong as well and we have a lot of guest lecturers from various colleges like IIM Lucknow, IIM Nagpur, MDI, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore. The permanent faculties are very highly knowledgeable and expert in their area. So, the faculty & student ratio is about 40:1 or 30:1.
IIM Shillong is one of the top 7 IIMs in the country, a part of the famed BLACKIS. It is also known by the names of Campus in Clouds and 7th Heaven. The admission process starts with appearing in CAT and is followed by Case Discussion and Personal Interview. Right after the CAT exam results are announced shortlists are released and the process gets underway and results are announced by the end of April. For an interaction intense course like MBA, the peers that you interact with forms the crux of your personal development journey, and IIM Shillong is famous for its diversity. The insights that you gain while interacting with the best in trade from different domains will help you in becoming a better version of yourself. One of the major USP of the institute is the pedigree of pedagogy. The faculty composition is a decent mix of experience and young minds which always invigorates your mind to think on a level that is deeper than you thought was possible.

The admissions process for the Post-Graduate Program (PGP) at IIM Shillong involves two stages. In the first stage, candidates who have qualified through the Common Admission Test (CAT) are shortlisted and invited to take the Writing Skills Assessment Test (WSAT) and participate in a Personal Interview (PI). The second stage involves the creation of a final merit list based on the candidates' performance in the WSAT, PI, and other relevant factors such as their GMAT scores, scholastic performance, and work experience.
Overseas candidates will also go through a similar process, with the Admissions Committee carefully reviewing their applications and shortlisting those who meet the necessary criteria. These candidates will then be invited to take the WSAT and participate in a PI, which may be held in one of four cities in India or conducted remotely via video conferencing. The final selection of candidates is based on their performance in the WSAT, PI, and the criteria used for shortlisting them for the PI. Tentative offers of admission will be made by the end of April, and registration for the PGP program is tentatively scheduled for the first week of July at the IIM Shillong campus.
There are several general perceptions about IIM Shillong that may be worth addressing in order to provide a more accurate picture of the business school.
One perception is that IIM Shillong is located in a remote area and therefore lacks access to the same opportunities as more metropolitan business schools. However, this is not necessarily the case. In reality, many of the same companies that visit other top business schools like the Indian Institutes of Management in Bangalore and Kolkata also visit IIM Shillong. Additionally, companies come to the North East region to recruit both technical and managerial talent from IIM Shillong, as well as other top schools like IIT Guwahati and IIT Kharagpur.
Another perception is that IIM Shillong lacks proper infrastructure due to its temporary campus. However, the current campus, which has been in operation for the past 10 years, is equipped with the latest technologies and is on par with other top business schools in terms of infrastructure.
A third perception is that IIM Shillong has poor-quality students and faculty. However, this is not true. In reality, students who are accepted to IIM Shillong have typically scored very highly on the Common Admission Test (CAT), with a percentile score above 98%. Additionally, the business school has guest faculty from reputable colleges abroad who teach a number of elective courses that rotate across the major IIMs. Overall, these factors suggest that IIM Shillong is a high-quality business school that offers a strong education and a range of opportunities for its students.
The class 10 and 12th marks are not directly linked to the shortlisting of GD/PI and even for Final Selection in IIM Shillong.
IIM Shillong has not defined the weightage for academics for 2022 MBA admissions. An expected set of scores, for students from different categories, is as follows:

Candidates who fulfill the above cutoff criteria will be considered for shortlisting into PI rounds and will be segregated as per their discipline in graduation.
At IIM Shillong, participants are exposed to a course on sustainability in their first year. This week-long course teaches students about the importance of introducing green practices in companies through subjects such as economics, accounts, marketing, and operations. In addition to their core subjects, students also have the opportunity to learn about behavioral studies and self and leadership communication with the help of experienced faculty members. These subjects aim to inculcate values such as solidarity, interpersonal relationships, sense-making, and perception in students. The institute encourages students to think disruptively and rely on their own values in order to have a purpose.
The importance of ethics is emphasized in the curriculum, and speakers who visit the university often highlight the values of their companies. In interviews, students may be asked about their personal values as individuals. The institute believes that a person's character and kind deeds are more important than their words and that life is measured by the moments that take our breath away. Overall, IIM Shillong aims to not only produce skilled managers but also well-rounded individuals with strong values.
The experience of GD and PI for IIM Shillong differs from one person to another.
The GD is case-based wherein you’ll get a real-life situation. You’ll have to analyze the problem and offer your opinions and effective solutions. This is easy for an engineering graduate, but it can be difficult based on your field of expertise.
The interview panel consists of two professors. The mood of the PI is calm. They'll ask you questions on your profession/ field of study. For example, You are an engineer who has worked in a manufacturing plant. You'll get questions on turbines, rotors, fluid dynamics, heat exchangers, etc.
They ask current affairs questions as well. You may be asked about the MBA domain you wish to pursue at IIM Shillong. Some of the questions may be out of the syllabus. For example, my brother did his engineering from NIT Bhopal. So he was asked a question on the Bhopal Gas Tragedy as well.
The GD and PI last for around half an hour in total. The PI isn’t difficult, but it is fast-paced and straightforward. You won't be expected to know every question. But your answers must be well thought out. If you give the interview and GD with confidence, there’s a high chance of you converting to IIM Shillong.
The only means of transport to reach IIM Shillong is a cab. You can book it privately or go for a shared one as well depending on your budget. The duration of the journey is around 3-4 hours on any typical day. There are two routes to reach IIM Shillong
Once you are familiar with the traffic and routes, you can look for other options as well.
IIM Shillong does not have an OBC reservation due to some state laws. The minimum marks required for shortlisting OBC candidates is the same as the General Category, which is 75/75/75 in the VARC, DILR, and QA sections. The minimum percentile required for shortlisting may vary depending on the candidate's undergraduate stream.
For example, a male engineer would be in competition with other male engineers, and the minimum percentile required would depend on how well candidates from that category performed. As a general rule, a percentile of 98+ would be a safe bet for GEM candidates to receive a call, while a lower percentile may be sufficient for candidates from other streams.
If you are planning to enter the Finance domain, IIM Shillong is a good choice. It has a certain level of specialization in the domain. This can be proved through the following points
Faculty: IIM Shillong boasts of a highly experienced and learned faculty.

Curriculum: The curriculum is very flexible and you are allowed to choose electives from a wide range. Also, the courses are at par with the changing industry.
Achievements: The worth of IIM Shillong can be proved through the various National Level competitions it has won so far. From Top Corporates like Nomura, HSBC etc, or from academia like GIRC and various B-schools competitions as well.
IIM Shillong's brand value can be determined through these aspects.
I think these points are more than enough to give an insight into IIM Shillong's brand name.
One of the major USPS of IIM Shillong is the diversity of electives it offers. Anyone who hasn’t decided on a domain can have a peek into the various angles of the business sector and then make a healthy decision.
The courses offered are flexible, comprising a blend of Marketing, HR, Operations, Finance, etc. This enables the students not to specialize in a single domain only. As far as HR is concerned, I have listed down some highlights of this particular domain at IIM Shillong.
