Calcutta University (CU) offers UG, PG, Doctoral, Diploma, and Certificate courses in the fields of Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Management, Law, etc. Admissions at Calcutta University are done in two categories, i.e., Part ‘A’ for CU Candidates and Part ‘B’ for Non-CU candidates. The university offers admission to 60% of the seats for CU candidates (Part ‘A’) and 40% for non-CU candidates. University of Calcutta PG Admissions 2025
Calcutta University offers admission to MA, M.Com, M.Sc, MBA, MCA, MTech, B.Ed, B.Lib.Sc, M.Li.Sc, M.Ed, and LL.M in multiple disciplines in the fields of Arts, Science, Commerce, Law & Education at postgraduate level. The basic eligibility for PG courses is a pass in a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant disciplines.
Admissions to PG courses are offered in two categories, i.e., Part ‘A’ for CU Candidates and Part ‘B’ for Non-CU candidates. 60% of total seats are earmarked for CU students (Honours Graduates of CU including Autonomous Colleges affiliated to CU will be considered in Part – “A” ) and admission to 40% of seats will be offered in Part “B” (Honours Graduates of other Universities (Non-C.U.).
Selection for Part “A” candidates will be based on marks secured in the qualifying examination, while Part “B” candidates are required to appear for an entrance test conducted by the university.

University of Calcutta Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria
For admission into PhD at CU, candidates must have a Postgraduate Degree in a relevant discipline with at least 55% (50% for reserved categories).
University of Calcutta Ph.D. Selection Process
Admission to the Ph.D. at CU is done based on the score in the written test, followed by a Research Proposal & an interview. UGC/ CSIR/ JRF (NET)/ SET/ SLET/ GATE or DST (Inspire) Scholarship or Teacher Fellowship holders will be exempted from the written test. Those students are also exempted from the university written test who have completed M.Phil/ M.Tech/ MD/ ME/ M.Pharm degree from a recognized university.

Admissions to all undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Calcutta University are based on merit and an entrance examination. Ans. The university entrance exam conducted for the M.Tech program is of 100 marks for the duration of One hour and 30 minutes. There are 50 multiple-choice questions. Two marks will be awarded for each correct answer and 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

UGC has now recognized Company Secretary as equivalent to post graduate degree. Those who have completed a Company Secretary program can now apply for admission in Ph.D in Commerce and its allied disciplines.
