Q: Why are IIITs such as IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Delhi, and IIIT Allahabad so underrated?

The three IIITs mentioned by you, namely IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Delhi and IIIT Allahabad have no connection with one another. Only IIIT Allahabad is a member of a collective known as the IIITs.Out of the remaining two, IIIT Hyderabad stands for The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad, and IIIT Delhi stands for Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi. All these three are prestigious institutions and I would disagree that they are underrated. IIIT Hyderabad is very difficult to get into. It has high cutoffs which are at par with some of the top IITs. IIIT Hyderabad is considered as one of the best institutes to study CS. The same is evident through their CS placements, a number of entrants in GSoc, and their participation in competitive programming. As far as IIIT Delhi is concerned, the institution has grown tremendously in the past few years. It has cut offs comparable to NSIT and DTU. All these institutes are relatively new and have the tag of “Research Institutes” attached to them. These might be an obstacle to their fame. This is because in India, students choose those institutes that promise the best industrial career prospects and not the ones driven by research. However, because these institutes are research-driven, the quality of their course content is top notch and they attract some of the best faculty. This also works to increase your overall development and opportunities in the industry. The popularity of these institutions is thus growing rapidly. Therefore, all three institutions are really good choices to pursue your higher studies.

Q: Why are IIIT's such as IIIT-Hyderabad, IIIT-Delhi and IIIT-Allahabad so under-rated?

First of all, to clear any misconceptions, IIITH, IIITD and IIITA are not connected in any manner. Out of the three, only IIIT Allahabad is a member of the actual collective known as the IIITs. The common public doesn’t know much about these prestigious colleges. Consequently, they aren’t valued as much as the IITs and NITs. Here are the reasons why- All these institutes offer very few branches, which are mostly IT related. They aren’t as old as some of the IITs and NITs. They were set up even after IIT Guwahati, which is the 7th IIT in terms of establishment year. They don’t possess big campuses and a vast infrastructure. But those who belong to the field of engineering (especially IT), give high ratings to these institutions, especially IIIT Hyderabad. These three offer research oriented academics. They even offer UG research programs. IIIT Hyderabad, Delhi and Allahabad are performing really well in their respective fields. They should be given much more attention.

Q: How good is IT at IIIT-Allahabad compared to CSE at BITS, Pilani and IIIT-H?

IIITs are Information Technology oriented institutes. These institutes only offer Computer Science and IT-related courses. If you are interested in building a career in the IT sector, IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Hyderabad are great options. IIIT Allahabad has an excellent coding culture. It also offers good placements in the IT sector. IIIT Allahabad placements 2022 concluded with an average CTC of INR 26 LPA, while the highest CTC was around INR 1.4 CPA.

Q: What happend on your first day at IIIT Allahabad?

My brother attended IIT Allahabad. His first day was normal and hectic with all the admission procedures and formalities. But his first-class experience was quite amusing. Here is how it went. One or two days after admission, he is taking the campus tour with our parents. While entering CC - 3 (Computer Center -3), my father casually asked the guard, ‘Where are the classrooms for freshers?’ To this question, the guard replied the classes have started from that day only from 10 A.M. It was around 10:25 A.M by then and my brother had no idea or any notebook with him. My parents kind of pushed him to attend his first class anyway. He was already 30 mins late. He took a quick peek at the class and according to him, the professor looked lenient. So, he took a chance and tried to sneak in quietly. Nonetheless, the professor saw him and asked, ‘Are you 30 mins late for this class or 30 mins too early for the next one?’ In response, the whole class burst out in laughter. Later he got to know the said professor was the HOD of the Mathematics department. Needless to say, it was quite a start for my brother.

Q: If IIIT Allahabad offers such high salaries, why is its cutoff rank so high, about 8500, compared to MNIT and many NITs? Why don't students opt for IIIT Allahabad rather than the NITs?

Many engineering aspirants and their parents don’t know anything about IIIT Allahabad. They are unsure whether it is a government or private college, whether good brands visit the campus, and whether it is anything like the IITs/NITs. NITs like Surat, Bhopal, Kurukshetra, and colleges like VIT Vellore are given much more acceptance simply because they are NITs or well known brands. Students decide their preferred colleges through a 1-2 month research, or the advice of their relatives/friends. IIITA offers B.Tech IT, which is considered inferior to CS, due to unknown reasons. Many rankings place IIITA lower to the lesser known state engineering colleges. This is another reason why people are reluctant in choosing IIIT Allahabad. Only engineering students have a good knowledge of the opportunities available at IIITA. As a student of this college, I can assure you that it is one of the best places with great placements and an amazing coding culture. At present, IIIT Allahabad has started gaining its well-deserved reputation, and its cutoffs have become equivalent to institutes like MNIT or MNNIT.

Q: What are some interesting proxy/attendance stories at IIIT Allahabad?

There was a guy Tarun Agarwal of the Electronics Branch and a faculty, Shirshu Verma. I heard this story from a friend. According to him, no one knew what kind of bond these two people had. Looking at them together, nobody could distinguish who is the teacher and who is the student. Tarun never attended Shirshu Sir’s classes but he had 100% attendance. Usually, some of the other students used to make a proxy for others. When nobody used to make a proxy of Tarun, then he used to mark his attendance. And this happened not once or twice but frequently. In fact not only attendance, but he also used to give him full marks in all his subjects. There might be some secret of Shirshu Sir that only Tarun knows. Most of the batch used to think so. There are endless proxy stories in engineering batches and every story is better than the other.

Q: What is the reason that people with great ranks ignore IIIT Allahabad despite its great placements and coding culture?

The primary reason why people with great ranks ignore IIIT Allahabad f despite its great placements and coding culture is the lack of knowledge. When my brother got into IIIT Allahabad our relatives asked him if he was unable to make it to Noida or Ghaziabad colleges due to low rank. Many even did not know the name of the college and asked if it was private or government. This is exactly why a majority of the student crowd chooses a college based on people's opinions. Another reason why people don’t know about IIIT Allahabad is that it offers B. Tech. (IT) and not B. Tech. (CS). There is a preconceived notion that CS is the main branch while IT is the sub-branch. Also, IIIT Allahabad does not have a good ranking which students consider while choosing their college. So without even enquiring about the college, people automatically ignore IIIT Allahabad. Only if someone has a relative or friend at IIIT Allahabad can they know the real scenario at IIIT Allahabad. If you a genuine interest in the IT field, choose IIIT Allahabad and you won’t ever regret your decision.

Q: Should I pursue M.Tech from IIIT Allahabad or NIT's?

While choosing a college for MTech between NITs and IIIT Allahabad you can refer to the following preference order. The following colleges have been ranked based on curriculum, placements, faculty, research work, student life, infrastructure, and other important aspects. Most software companies don’t permit MTech students to sit for placements and prefer BTech students only. You can not match the level of IITs and NITs. Moreover, you will find no passionate coders in MTech IIIT Allahabad.

Q: Why are good institutes like IIIT-Hyderabad, IIIT-Allahabad, BITS-Pilani, NSIT and DTU missing in MHRD Rankings for best engineering institutes?

The first-ever ranking of higher education institutions in India namely the Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, and Universities was released on the 4th of April 2016, by the MHRD. Many claimed that the report was misleading as they did not conduct thorough research before ranking the institutes. Firstly, only 233 out of 720 universities participated and it's highly possible that some of the major colleges did not participate in the survey. So to get an exact picture, 100% participation is a must. One of my friends told me that his institute was a tier-3 institute with pathetic teaching faculty and placements and yet was ranked under 70. This alone is enough to point out that fallacy in the rankings. He also told me that most of the duvet conducted was done with false credentials, therefore, discrediting the rankings. The worst part of these MHRD rankings is that the accuracy and authenticity are in the hands of the institute which can be easily manipulated. Overall I believe that The National Institutional Ranking Framework is a good idea, but poorly executed because the rankings are done on the basis of incomplete data and are often manipulated. Unfortunately, many students fall trapped in these inflated rankings and end up h choosing the wrong institute.

Q: Has anyone gotten into IIIT Allahabad?

Yes, many students get admission to IIIT Allahabad every year. Many of my close friends got admission to IIIT Allahabad and are currently pursuing a B.Tech student. However, I heard from them that it was quite difficult for general males having CRL Rank 5044 to get a seat in the IT branch. This was because the cutoffs have been increasing. Many friends managed to get a seat in CSAB special round 2.

According to Mohammad Saqlain’s review on Collegedunia, IIIT Allahabad has an excellent coding culture, supportive seniors, and an advanced CS-focused curriculum with technologies like MERN. Placements are outstanding, with nearly all students placed and top packages reaching INR 1.20 LPA. Campus life is active with fests and clubs, and hostel facilities are decent, though the mess food is average. The main drawback is the remote location with limited nightlife.

The IIIT Allahabad hostel for males costs INR 11,880 per semester, and for females, INR 11,880–INR 13,080 per semester.

There are double occupancy rooms with maintenance, water, electricity, cooler usage, and basic amenities.
Female Hostels are fewer in number but comparatively newer and well-maintained. The capacity is also lower.

I dislike the noise that maybe happened sometimes in the campus at the time of unforeseen events . There should be a cooperation among the students at the time of such situations so that everyone should overcome the situations peacefully and safely .

Various companies recruiting from the campus and highest package being offered

Our campus provided with campus placement and further academics pursuits like pursuing research in different fields. The students of last semesters are eligible for the campus placement. They are required to maintain their LinkedIn profiles for recruiting in the reputed companies and well equipped with good CGPA in all the semesters . They are also required to maintain the good communication skills, listening skills and analytical in problem solving skills of real life world. The companies visited here are Google, dell , Tata, Microsoft, BDO, TCS every year for the campus placement and number of offers are made after having the campus placement. The companies provide the average packages of 7 lakhs per annum and highest of upto 50 lakhs per annum in the field of management and in the field of technology the package comprises upto 1 crore per annum. Atleast 70 % of students get placed every year and if no placement plans then there is a facility of further academics pursuits like PhD etc

Students view on course curriculum and teaching method

The course which I've opted for admission in IIIT Allahabad is MBA which is a two year programmes of management. The most influential decision of doing MBA is to enter into the corporate world with finest knowledge and quality communication skills and acknowledging the real world scenario of corporate affairs. This curriculum prepares me well for the future that is for real world applications and there is more broader field for academic pursuits. This prepares us well for doing the work in real time as it is a management specific course which deals with all the real time situations of the business world. Though it is influential but at some aspects it lacks factors which are essential for management. The teachings method should be improved in ways like providing more of practical knowledge than theoretical knowledge for dealing the real time situations with more informed and confidential manner. The exams are ranging from moderate to difficulty level and time and frequency is of 1 year

Total fees of the course and scholarship

IIIT-A consists of tuition fees, admission fees , hostel fees , convenience fees , examination fees , mess fees , etc. It also includes policies regarding scholarship, health and other measures. Every year the institution provides scholarship to all the students of different categories and provide the reservation benefits to all the different sections of students and for girls also. The complete fees of the MBA course ranging from 5 to 6 lakhs including tuition , services fees and other compulsory charges and after that it provides placement opportunity or further academics pursuits like PhD in management with certain payment hikes like salary , financial incentives and non financial incentives too. The scholarships availed by the students differed according to the states and academic performance can be upto 2 lakhs. Campus employment has been done in our institution which includes teaching assistants, staffs or other job roles and the stipends depends on the post ranging 35000 to one lakh

Various facilities and sports of the college

The institution is well equipped with high quality of amenities and facilities like it includes hostels for girls and boys and even residence and apartments for staffs and research scholars. The campus consists of stationery items, canteens even for night which is open from 5.30 pm to till 5.00 am in the morning , even the parlours for girls , the cafeterias are also available. There are many sports related fields and clubs are also made like football court, squash court, volleyball court , table tennis court and a pavillion for cricket match . The events and technical events are all done at the auditoriums, there is a auditorium for honouring the academic guests and other bodies. In the recent time the IIIT-A held inter IIIT sports events for one week comprising of different games like kabbadi , volleyball, cricket match, football , squash ,table tennis,and a concerts and dj nights for the events. What are the facilities provided in the college hostel?

The campus consists of three girls hostels and five boys hostels. There are three visitor hostels for the guest accommodations on any specific events or occasions. The girls hostel comprises of double occupancy for the first year and single occupancy for the second year and with different charges of occupancy. The hostel comprises of WiFi facilities, water filter facilities and regular service of water cooler , and the room consists with table and chair, one bed and cupboards , fans and windows . The registration process is done at the time of admission only and the meals provided in the mess are of better qualities and every day with different dishes like aloo paratha , bread , butter, egg , and all the essential pulses . Every month the mess provides special dinners to all the hostelites which includes cake , chowmein, noodles , chicken , Manchurian , etc. The utensils and plates provided in the mess are of good quality , proper care has been taken of while cleansing of all the utensils

Admission process and eligibility of the college

I'm Neha Yadav, the application process includes exams like CMAT ,CAT ,MAT, XAT etc. which is conducted by National Testing Agency( NTA) across the country. The application process for CMAT, XAT, CAT, MAT etc.involves application form which is available on the official website of cmat.nta.nic.in. The exam are held in offline as well as online mode. Basically it is a computer based online tests. CMAT ,CAT ,XAT ,MAT are the eligibility criteria for getting admission in any of the management institutes. The details regarding application form and fees are all available on this official website including reservation benefits are availed to different categories like ST, SC, PWD and OBC and for girls also. The duration of the exam consist of three hours comprises of five sections: quantitative techniques and data interpretation, logical reasoning , English or Hindi language , innovation. They have a very good coding culture and which reflects their placement

Also the campus though decent but is not of very huge size and you would start feeling it to be quiet small after some time.

As mentioned earlier the reason for chosing this college is an up to date cirriculum, coding culture and the packages. I also applied to some private colleges like Manipal, Anurag University and also IIIT Banglore and also would have got an confirmed admission form but i didnt choose them because of their hefty fee and also as this was a better option for me. The admission process of my college for B.Tech course is through JoSSA and CSAB councelling. JEE mains is the entrance exam and most students prefer the IT branch of my college.

The three IIITs mentioned by you, namely IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Delhi and IIIT Allahabad have no connection with one another. Only IIIT Allahabad is a member of a collective known as the IIITs.Out of the remaining two, IIIT Hyderabad stands for The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad, and IIIT Delhi stands for Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi.

All these three are prestigious institutions and I would disagree that they are underrated. IIIT Hyderabad is very difficult to get into. It has high cutoffs which are at par with some of the top IITs. IIIT Hyderabad is considered as one of the best institutes to study CS. The same is evident through their CS placements, a number of entrants in GSoc, and their participation in competitive programming. As far as IIIT Delhi is concerned, the institution has grown tremendously in the past few years. It has cut offs comparable to NSIT and DTU.

All these institutes are relatively new and have the tag of “Research Institutes” attached to them. These might be an obstacle to their fame. This is because in India, students choose those institutes that promise the best industrial career prospects and not the ones driven by research.

However, because these institutes are research-driven, the quality of their course content is top notch and they attract some of the best faculty. This also works to increase your overall development and opportunities in the industry. The popularity of these institutions is thus growing rapidly.

Therefore, all three institutions are really good choices to pursue your higher studies.

Why are IIIT's such as IIIT-Hyderabad, IIIT-Delhi and IIIT-Allahabad so under-rated?

First of all, to clear any misconceptions, IIITH, IIITD and IIITA are not connected in any manner. Out of the three, only IIIT Allahabad is a member of the actual collective known as the IIITs.

The common public doesn’t know much about these prestigious colleges. Consequently, they aren’t valued as much as the IITs and NITs. Here are the reasons why-

All these institutes offer very few branches, which are mostly IT related.
They aren’t as old as some of the IITs and NITs. They were set up even after IIT Guwahati, which is the 7th IIT in terms of establishment year.
They don’t possess big campuses and a vast infrastructure.

But those who belong to the field of engineering (especially IT), give high ratings to these institutions, especially IIIT Hyderabad. These three offer research oriented academics. They even offer UG research programs.

IIIT Hyderabad, Delhi and Allahabad are performing really well in their respective fields. They should be given much more attention.

How good is IT at IIIT-Allahabad compared to CSE at BITS, Pilani and IIIT-H?

What happend on your first day at IIIT Allahabad?

My brother attended IIT Allahabad. His first day was normal and hectic with all the admission procedures and formalities. But his first-class experience was quite amusing. Here is how it went.

One or two days after admission, he is taking the campus tour with our parents. While entering CC - 3 (Computer Center -3), my father casually asked the guard, ‘Where are the classrooms for freshers?’ To this question, the guard replied the classes have started from that day only from 10 A.M.

It was around 10:25 A.M by then and my brother had no idea or any notebook with him. My parents kind of pushed him to attend his first class anyway. He was already 30 mins late. He took a quick peek at the class and according to him, the professor looked lenient. So, he took a chance and tried to sneak in quietly. Nonetheless, the professor saw him and asked, ‘Are you 30 mins late for this class or 30 mins too early for the next one?’ In response, the whole class burst out in laughter.

Later he got to know the said professor was the HOD of the Mathematics department. Needless to say, it was quite a start for my brother.

If IIIT Allahabad offers such high salaries, why is its cutoff rank so high, about 8500, compared to MNIT and many NITs? Why don't students opt for IIIT Allahabad rather than the NITs?

Many engineering aspirants and their parents don’t know anything about IIIT Allahabad. They are unsure whether it is a government or private college, whether good brands visit the campus, and whether it is anything like the IITs/NITs.

NITs like Surat, Bhopal, Kurukshetra, and colleges like VIT Vellore are given much more acceptance simply because they are NITs or well known brands. Students decide their preferred colleges through a 1-2 month research, or the advice of their relatives/friends.

IIITA offers B.Tech IT, which is considered inferior to CS, due to unknown reasons. Many rankings place IIITA lower to the lesser known state engineering colleges. This is another reason why people are reluctant in choosing IIIT Allahabad.

Only engineering students have a good knowledge of the opportunities available at IIITA. As a student of this college, I can assure you that it is one of the best places with great placements and an amazing coding culture.

At present, IIIT Allahabad has started gaining its well-deserved reputation, and its cutoffs have become equivalent to institutes like MNIT or MNNIT.

What are some interesting proxy/attendance stories at IIIT Allahabad?

There was a guy Tarun Agarwal of the Electronics Branch and a faculty, Shirshu Verma. I heard this story from a friend. According to him, no one knew what kind of bond these two people had. Looking at them together, nobody could distinguish who is the teacher and who is the student.

Tarun never attended Shirshu Sir’s classes but he had 100% attendance. Usually, some of the other students used to make a proxy for others. When nobody used to make a proxy of Tarun, then he used to mark his attendance. And this happened not once or twice but frequently. In fact not only attendance, but he also used to give him full marks in all his subjects. There might be some secret of Shirshu Sir that only Tarun knows. Most of the batch used to think so.

There are endless proxy stories in engineering batches and every story is better than the other.

What is the reason that people with great ranks ignore IIIT Allahabad despite its great placements and coding culture?

The primary reason why people with great ranks ignore IIIT Allahabad f despite its great placements and coding culture is the lack of knowledge. When my brother got into IIIT Allahabad our relatives asked him if he was unable to make it to Noida or Ghaziabad colleges due to low rank. Many even did not know the name of the college and asked if it was private or government. This is exactly why a majority of the student crowd chooses a college based on people's opinions.

Another reason why people don’t know about IIIT Allahabad is that it offers B. Tech. (IT) and not B. Tech. (CS). There is a preconceived notion that CS is the main branch while IT is the sub-branch.

Also, IIIT Allahabad does not have a good ranking which students consider while choosing their college. So without even enquiring about the college, people automatically ignore IIIT Allahabad. Only if someone has a relative or friend at IIIT Allahabad can they know the real scenario at IIIT Allahabad. If you a genuine interest in the IT field, choose IIIT Allahabad and you won’t ever regret your decision.

Why are good institutes like IIIT-Hyderabad, IIIT-Allahabad, BITS-Pilani, NSIT and DTU missing in MHRD Rankings for best engineering institutes?

The first-ever ranking of higher education institutions in India namely the Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, and Universities was released on the 4th of April 2016, by the MHRD. Many claimed that the report was misleading as they did not conduct thorough research before ranking the institutes.

Firstly, only 233 out of 720 universities participated and it's highly possible that some of the major colleges did not participate in the survey. So to get an exact picture, 100% participation is a must. One of my friends told me that his institute was a tier-3 institute with pathetic teaching faculty and placements and yet was ranked under 70. This alone is enough to point out that fallacy in the rankings. He also told me that most of the duvet conducted was done with false credentials, therefore, discrediting the rankings.
The worst part of these MHRD rankings is that the accuracy and authenticity are in the hands of the institute which can be easily manipulated. Overall I believe that The National Institutional Ranking Framework is a good idea, but poorly executed because the rankings are done on the basis of incomplete data and are often manipulated. Unfortunately, many students fall trapped in these inflated rankings and end up h choosing the wrong institute.

Yes, many students get admission to IIIT Allahabad every year. Many of my close friends got admission to IIIT Allahabad and are currently pursuing a B.Tech student. However, I heard from them that it was quite difficult for general males having CRL Rank 5044 to get a seat in the IT branch. This was because the cutoffs have been increasing. Many friends managed to get a seat in CSAB special round 2.

IIIT Allahabad Admissions are based on a national-level entrance test or the Institute’s written test and personal interview scores. Candidates can check the admission criteria for different courses mentioned below:
