BHU LL.D. Admission 2026
Admissions to the LL.D. programme at BHU are conducted annually through a research-portfolio-based process overseen by the Faculty Research Committee (FRC) and the Controller of Examinations. There is no entrance examination. The 2026-27 admission cycle was completed with results and offer letters published between January 24 and February 5, 2027, and reporting to the department by February 10, 2027. For the 2027-28 session, applications are expected to open tentatively in August-September 2027.

There is no entrance examination for LL.D. Admission is based on research merit and evaluation of the candidate's publications and research proposal by the Faculty Research Committee. No NTA or BHU-RET exam is required.

Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in Law from BHU or a recognised university, completed at least 4 years before the date of application.
- Candidates must have made significant original contributions to legal scholarship, demonstrated through sole-authored publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals, monographs, or books.
- Permanent BHU teachers with a minimum of 4 years of teaching/research experience and a Ph.D. in Law are also eligible.
- Candidates whose Ph.D. is from a university other than BHU must also hold a Master's and/or Bachelor's degree in Law from BHU, or demonstrate equivalent academic credentials.
Admission Process
- Collect and prepare the application form from BHU's academic section or the Controller of Examinations office.
- Prepare key documents: bio-data, a detailed research account (approximately 1,000 words) highlighting original contributions, a complete list of sole-authored publications, and a proposed thesis title.
- Obtain endorsements/recommendations from two qualified referees (BHU Academic Council members or senior legal academics).
- Submit the complete application package to the Controller of Examinations, BHU.
- The Faculty Research Committee (FRC) reviews the application for originality, scholarly merit, and academic rigor.
- If approved, an official admission/offer letter is issued.
- Pay the required fees (Rs. 3,000 admission + Rs. 10,000 examination) within one month of receiving the offer letter.
- Register with the Department of Law and select a research supervisor/advisor.
- Present a pre-submission seminar to demonstrate research progress.
- Submit five copies of the thesis for external evaluation by Indian and international examiners.
- The Research Degree Committee (RDC) grants final approval upon unanimous acceptance of the thesis.
