Rooms are also available with optional premium facilities at an extra cost of INR 10k. Mess charges range from INR 36k to INR 48k per year as per the meal plan. Students should also budget around INR 3,000 – INR 6,000 per month for personal and miscellaneous expenses beyond hostel and mess fees.

Students have mixed reviews of KIIT’s hostel and campus life. The university earns praise for its green campus, active student-driven extracurricular activities, and high-quality facilities. Criticism includes strict and sometimes inconsistent hostel rules, mediocre quality food from the mess, and concerns over cleanliness and hygiene. Overall, KIIT offers strong amenities and opportunities, but students note that self-motivation is key to making the most of the experience. Read More

KIIT FAQs

Ques. Is the cost of KIIT worth it? What is the return on investment?

Ans. KIIT’s fees are on the higher side compared to many private universities, making return on investment (ROI) a major factor. Placement data indicates average packages around INR 8–9 LPA, but students often highlight that the total cost (over INR 20 L) should be weighed against typical median salaries of INR 7–9 LPA across branches. For instance, while KIIT’s median CSE package (INR 9.2 LPA) slightly surpasses VIT’s (INR 8 LPA), KIIT’s two-year fee is significantly higher. Therefore, prospective students should carefully evaluate ROI, factoring in their branch, scholarship opportunities, and likely placement outcomes.

Ques. How is KIIT for the CSE branch?

Ans. According to student reviews, CSE at KIIT has large batch sizes (over 4,000 students per year), so competition is high and campus peer quality can be mixed. Coding culture is active, but much of the learning and placement success is self-driven. However, some students feel that, given the fees (INR 18–20 L+ total), the overall academic and peer environment may not match those of IITs, NITs, or even VIT/Manipal for top talent.

Ques. What are the hostel facilities like at KIIT?

Ans. KIIT has separate hostels for boys and girls on campus. About 30% of the rooms are air-conditioned; the rest are non-AC (though AC rooms are available at extra cost). All hostels offer 24x7 Wi-Fi and reading rooms. Campuses have indoor/outdoor sports facilities attached to hostels. The canteen serves good quality Indian and continental food as per the official website.

Ques. Which B.Tech branches at KIIT have the best placement prospects?

Ans. Generally, Computer Science/IT, Electronics & Communication and Mechanical branches at KIIT lead in placements. Industry demand in these fields is high, so CSE, ECE and ME students often see the most job offers. Core branches beyond CSE/ECE also get placements, but student reports note that placement support is stronger for these streams.

Ques. What is the KIIT campus like, and what student life amenities are available?

Ans. KIIT has a very large, modern campus. It provides labs with modern infrastructure, extensive libraries open until night, student activity centers (KSAC), an auditorium and sports complexes. The student activity center hosts cultural, tech and sports clubs, and KIIT’s annual fest. According to student reviews, KIIT organises many events year-round, and students have ample extracurricular opportunities. The reviews indicate that while facilities are top-notch, social life/clubs vary by department and batch.

An experience in KIIT

Course Fees, Hostel Fees, and Scholarships Available

My yearly fee is Rs. 520,000, and my per semester fee is Rs.265,000, of which Rs.200,000 is the institutional fee, Rs.40,000 is the hostel fee, and Rs.24,000 is the mess fee. The hostel fee varies depending on the type of hostel a student chooses. For instance, mine is a 3-bed AC, so it costs this much, but a 3-bed non-AC will cost only Rs.28,000. However, the mess charges remain the same for everyone. For those opting for 2-bed AC or 2-bed AC premium, the cost will be higher.

The college also charges a one-time hostel fee of Rs.15,000. After the exam, for seat booking, I had to pay Rs.35,000, and for registration, they charged Rs.75,000. Fees vary, and my SC candidate friend had a fee waiver of up to 50%.

In terms of scholarships, there are a few. If your rank is below 1000, 15% of the first-year fee will be waived, and a reward of Rs.10,000 will be credited to the student's bank account every month with conditions of 75% attendance and a CGPA above 7.5. Other scholarships include Rs.5,000 per month for the batch topper, and there are need-based scholarships for which students can talk to the administration.

Internships Opportunities

There are companies like Infosys and Tata that offer internships. One of my locality brothers studying in kiit 3rd year is doing an internship in which the company is paying him 1 lakh per month, they had to do many projects in it like creating menu UI for the company etc.

Placement Scenario and Various Companies Visited

From the 6th sem, one is eligible for campus placements the percentage of the student getting placed is approx 70 per cent.

Some prominent companies are

  • Tata
  • Wipro
  • Google.

The highest package last year was 56 lpa and the average was around 8-9 lpa. I plan to take the gate exam and pursue a Mtech degree for better career options.

Various Course Offered

Our curriculum is very flexible, we have choices in the elective subjects. In the first year, we are being taught about the same physics, chemistry, and mathematics, which is old college type so I feel it lacks at some point. The area of improvement is the part where we opted for computer science, but we are being taught PCM. The harsh schedule is also a major con. We have sports and yoga classes after lunch. The difficulty increases when we have exams in the afternoon not morning.

Faculty Review and Exam Patterns

  • The faculty-to-student ratio is 1:66. The faculty and student relationship depends on the classes we have a good bond with our teachers.
  • Every class have a subject teacher who is also the mentor of the class and the assigned students. They are assigned to listen and solve every query of the student whatever it may be and my mentor does it well.
  • Our mentor's name is maam Bb Kar she is also our chemistry faculty.
  • I like all my faculties they are very good as compared to what I hear from my batchmates about their faculty mentors.
  • Recently we had mid sem of 20 marks and we will have 50 marks at the end sem in December and 30 marks as internal which the teacher will decide so in a total of 100 marks per subject.

Hostel Fees and Facilities

Our hostel has a reading room with many books, it has a swimming pool and a sports complex. For the registration process, we had to pay a one-time fee of 15000 Rs and its quite affordable but the hostel maintains strict discipline they charge fine a lot. The mess food is not so good in taste sometimes we can see insects inside the food which is the worst side of staying in the hostel.

The college has many extracurricular facilities. KIIT holds a fest in the month of February. All the classrooms are well furnished with AC. There are many sports complexes with different sports facilities. Students also run ksac which is a kiits club organization any student can join ksac then he can choose various other clubs he likes eg photography, drama etc.

Admission

I gave KIITEE on March 28 (my entrance to the college). They conducted it in various phases, and I gave it in phase 1, getting CSE during counselling on the first go. I also got CSE in SRM, but since it was in the south, it was too far from my home, so I didn’t enrol. Additionally, the intake is larger at SRM compared to KIIT.

I couldn't get into a government college because I lacked focus in +2 and got distracted. For admission to KIIT, one has to either give JEE or KIITEE. I gave KIITEE, a 450-mark exam with a 3.5-hour MCQ-based format. Based on the result, for seat holding, KIIT charges Rs. 35,000.

KIIT: 19 Answered Questions

Is KIIT a good college in terms of education and faculty?

Salini Dasguptastudied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2020)

Yes, KIIT is a great college in terms of both education and faculty. One of my friends completed his BTech in Civil Engineering from KIIT and was glad of his decision. The faculty base comprises a mix of highly learned professors and fresh post-graduates generally from IITs or other reputed colleges. But the major issue here is the quality of students getting admission here. KIIT usually averages students who could not make it into other engineering colleges.

No matter how good the teachers are, the level of education can never be great if the students are average and have no interest in studying. Because of the luxurious life the institute offers, students have started taking faculty and education in general for granted. They can be seen frequently skipping classes and exams. This carefree approach toward studies is causing major problems and is destroying the academic ambiance as well as the career of many.

Owing to such an attitude on the part of students, the professors too have little interest in teaching. They dont run behind students and have found comfort in their laid-back attitude. So, the faculty although good is of no use if the students are not willing to extract benefits from them.

Samrat PradhanB.Tech from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2017)

  • Don’t skip any practical class because attendance in these classes carries marks.
  • Maintain a good rapport with the teachers and seniors to stay well-informed.

  • Focus more on the subject you will be studying in the second semester.
  • Is a great option for those looking for a design prospect for the Core job.

How hard is it to survive at KIIT?

Mridul GhoseB.Tech from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2021)

Survival at KIIT can be judged on the basis of many criteria such as hostel life, campus life, or academics. Consider the following

Initially,  the hostel life at KIIT is 6/10 in terms of hardship for survival. In the starting, you have to be punctual and check in at the hostel on time. But once the fresher party is done, you live a considerably free hostel life. There are no major restrictions and every query is taken care of at the reception area.

Campus life: KIIT has one of the most dynamic and vibrant campus life. You don’t have to follow many rules and are a free bird here. A number of societies promote extracurricular activities so make sure to enroll and pursue your passion.

Academic life: The difficulty of academic life varies from individual to individual but on average, it can be rated as 4/10. Attending classes regularly and doing frequent revisions can help you score good marks without any extra effort.

Exams: Sadly, KIIT does not conduct very challenging exams and you can score good marks just by solving the previous year's papers and attending classes regularly.

Lab sessions: The lab sessions are very easy provided that you are interested in them.

So, it can be safely concluded that it’s pretty easy to survive at KIIT. All you need is a positive and consistent attitude.

What is the quality of students who take up CSE in KIIT?

Sabeer Chalana
Sanjana KapoorKIIT Bhubaneshwar

I am a CSE student at KIIT. In my batch, there is a 10-pointer as well as a 7.5-pointer. I myself scored 9.31 in my first sem. I scored 85% in AISSCE but there are also students in my class who scored above 90%.

During our KIIT counseling, we were to be allotted our branches based on our ranks in the KIITEE. CSE seats were filled quickly. This is because the first preference of students is CSE, then EE, and then come the other branches like Mechanical, Civil, and others. The best rank holders in KIITEE choose the CSE branch.

CSE students at KIIT are not only good at their studies, but they are also very active in extracurriculars. The CSE department hosts great freshers’ parties and CSE has a good share of coordinators in fests and other events.

Overall, CSE students in KIIT are hardworking individuals who perform well not only in studies but also in other extracurricular activities.

How is KIIT BBSR?

Sanjana KapoorKIIT Bhubaneshwar

I am a third year student at KIIT. Till now, my experience has been great. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time over here and made some great friends.

KIIT is a good institution with great facilities. It is, however, a little on the expensive side. The students are not pressurized unnecessarily in the name of studies, which is a good thing. The campus life is also great over here.

A lot of companies visit the campus. Some years ago, some big IT companies did not visit the campus for placements. The institution compensated by bringing in startups and even, surprisingly, some BPOs.

Apart from studies, the students of KIIT make use of opportunities to go for various extracurriculars and indulge in hobbies that they couldn’t practice before due to family pressure or other circumstances. Many students even decide to pursue their passion.

Alumni of KIIT like Amandeep Khayal (Amandeep Singh) and Kartik Bhagat decided to choose their passion over Engineering.

Bhubaneswar as a city does not offer much to the youth. However, KIIT is a good institution and you will spend some of the best years of your life over here.

What are the things I need to pack for college first year at KIIT University?

Salini Dasguptastudied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2020)

As a first-year student at KIIT, pack all the basic things of your personal requirement. You will get more or less everything else from the college and the hostel itself.

The college dress code is a salwar suit for girls and formal shirt pants for boys.

In the girls’ hostel, after the first semester, the wardens may show some leniency and allow you to wear leggings and kurta instead of a suit and dupatta. This leniency is completely a warden’s choice. Pack these clothes accordingly.

During the first week at KIIT, you will have a school and university orientation. In it, you will be given all the important information in the central auditorium. After 2-3 days, you will get your laptop, books, bags, etc.

Both girls and boys hostels provide all the basic necessities to students. These include basic beddings, a mattress, a pair of bedsheets, buckets, etc.

You can carry extra bedsheets if you wish. Also, pack towels, personal things, and basic items like water bottles, toothpaste, body wash, pen stands, some containers, and hangers. You need not bring an induction if you are a girl student. This is because every girls' hostel has an induction on each floor.

You can pack straighteners, curlers, irons and other electronic appliances but at your own responsibility because the hostel does not allow it. However, it is obvious that none can do without an iron.

From books to notebooks, the college will provide you with everything. Bring a white and blue apron for the Chemistry and BMS labs. Also, bring a lock and key for your room and cupboard.

Do not worry much. You will love your stay here and make wonderful memories. I would say, make the most of your time at KIIT.

How is your experience at KIIT?

Raktim Tarafdar
Salini Dasguptastudied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2020)

Initially, KIIT was a backup plan for me. I thought that because I couldn’t get into the IITs or BITS, I wouldn’t make a good engineer. KIIT completely changed my perception with its teaching methodology. I have grown immense confidence over here.

One of my teachers at KIIT guides me on the various opportunities that lie ahead for me. He also gives me valuable guidance on how I can become the best version of myself. We receive every tip and all the facilities that are needed to become a successful engineer. I feel that this is the place that I always needed.

KIIT has an Institute of Eminence(IoE) tag. One of my seniors got placed in his dream company, Robert Bosch.

Another published a paper in IEEE under her professor.  An alumnus told me about the semester exchange program in Taiwan, the benefits of which he is reaping in his professional life.

There are various extracurricular activities at KIIT. There are societies, fests, seminars, workshops, etc. which help with our personality development.

KIIT is a very good choice to pursue your studies.

Why is studying engineering in KIITs considered bad?

Arnav RoyLives in Kolkata, West Bengal, India

KIIT has not released the branch-wise placements for 2023 to date. However, it has released the overall placement figures for B.Tech, for the year 2023.

As CS is the most rewarding branch in terms of placements at present, you can closely associate these placement figures with the performance of the CS branch and the top 20 students of CS.

KIIT has recorded 90% + campus placements till date. Approximately 3000 students got on-campus placement offers.
4500+ offers were generated from 350+ companies out of which, 120+ were new.
The average CTC was recorded at approx. INR 6.50 LPA.
80 companies offered a CTC of INR 10 LPA and above.
The Highest CTC offered was INR 63 LPA by YugaByte Software (P) Ltd.
2100 students were offered summer internships via the “Capstone Project” route.
1500+ paid semester internships were offered.
Capegemini was the top recruiter on campus. It gave offers to 346 students. It was followed by Bosch Global Software Technologies (P) Ltd. with 242 job offers.
IT Mass Recruitment Campus Drives generated 1300 job offers from companies like Accenture, Cognizant, Capgemini, Mindtree, Bosch, Ericsson, IBM, among others.

These were the major placement highlights for B.Tech for the year 2023 at KIIT. From these figures, you can clearly see the promising state of placements at KIIT for the CS branch.

How can I score CGPA 9 in KIIT?

Raktim Tarafdar
Ananya DasguptaStudied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT)

I am an alumnus of KIIT. In my B.Tech Civil Engineering course, I scored a 9.43 CGPA and ranked 2nd overall in my branch.

For a 9+ CGPA, I would recommend you follow this advice-

  • Hostel- You and your roommates will most probably come from different backgrounds, both economic and cultural. Learn to accept the differences and do not waste your time and energy on petty arguments. After your first year at KIIT, when you will be shifted from King’s Castle VII, try to get a room with people who carry the same values and mindset as you. However, be ready for adjustments and compromises with them as well.
  1. Classes- Do not unnecessarily miss your classes at KIIT because there you will learn important tips on preparing for your examinations and other competitions. Also, try to study for 2-4 hours each day after classes.
  2. Read- Read motivating and inspiring books during your free time.
  3. Set a goal for yourself- Be it an MBA from an IIM, getting a good placement offer, or any such goal, make it in the first year itself and work hard towards achieving it. With such a goal in mind, you will study harder toward getting a good CGPA.

Apart from studies, do enjoy your life at KIIT, make amazing friends, and develop leadership and managerial skills by participating in societies like the Photography Society, Music Society, Dance Society, etc.

What are the best things for KIIT University students to do on weekends?

Salini Dasguptastudied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (2020)

I am an alumnus of KIIT. I was a B.Tech Electrical Engineering student. I would first like to tell you how our weekdays looked like. Our classes went on from 10 in the morning to 5 in the evening. After which, we spent some time chatting amongst ourselves in the Kathajodi Campus. The Soc people ended up planning some group activities. Others mostly returned to the hostels.

One thing that I regret is not spending much time in the library. A library is the biggest resource present at any institution. Weekdays are usually filled with other commitments, so make sure to spend some time in the library during the weekends. The library is not meant to just study your curriculum or for lab copywriting. Make sure to do some extra reading. Other than that, try exploring the KIIT campus on foot.

I thought I must offer some advice because I regret not putting in some extra hours for my personality development. You will get numerous other fun tips from people around you at KIIT, but none will tell you to do some extra work for just a few hours during the weekends.
