Whether a particular degree is worth the money you spend depends on a number of factors like your financial background and your future prospects. One of my relatives completed his BTech in CSE in 2012 and got a job that helped him pay back the loan within 2 years. However, this may not be the case for everyone. That being said, consider the following scenarios
Nevertheless, if you are adamant about joining anyways, go for CS or IT which will provide better placement opportunities than other branches.
I am a CSE student at KIIT. In my batch, there is a 10-pointer as well as a 7.5-pointer. I myself scored 9.31 in my first sem. I scored 85% in AISSCE but there are also students in my class who scored above 90%.
During our KIIT counseling, we were to be allotted our branches based on our ranks in the KIITEE. CSE seats were filled quickly. This is because the first preference of students is CSE, then EE, and then come the other branches like Mechanical, Civil, and others. The best rank holders in KIITEE choose the CSE branch.
CSE students at KIIT are not only good at their studies, but they are also very active in extracurriculars. The CSE department hosts great freshers’ parties and CSE has a good share of coordinators in fests and other events.
Overall, CSE students in KIIT are hardworking individuals who perform well not only in studies but also in other extracurricular activities.
I have a friend who scored a rank of 1536 in KIITEE and chose CSE in KIIT while another who got a rank of 4158 in WBJEE and went got IEM ECE.
What I mean is that the institute does not matter but it’s your capability and skills that determine your success rate. I find judging colleges based on placements very silly.
So, if your ultimate goal is BTech only then take any one between IEM and KIIT depending on your financial background but if you are planning to pursue higher education, IEM will help you save money that can later be used for higher studies.
There are 240 KIIT CSE seats for B.Tech. Here is the seat matrix according to student enrollment and graduation.
| Academic Year | 2020-21 |
| Students in 1st year | 240 |
| Students in 2nd year | 274 |
| Students in 3rd year | 288 |
| Students in 4th year | 288 |
| Number of students graduating (year) | 288(2021) |
So, for first year, KIIT takes 240 students for B.Tech CSE.
It is suggested you choose CSE at KIIT University. One of my friends studied there. According to him, there is no comparison between the branch of KIIT CSE and CET.

The program applies to CSE, except that in the first semester you have to study biology. KIIT develops practical applications for students as well as the theory of study.
You may not get Computer Science with a rank of 6,800. KIIT cutoff for CSE stays around 5000. The 2022 expected cutoff for CSE is 5054. However, your rank will be eligible for other branches such as IT, Electronics, Electronics, and Telecommunication. KIIT offers an option to shift branches after first year. If you maintain a CGPA above 8.5, you can apply for branch change.
With your decent score, you might be able to make it to a tier 3 government college. Well, whether you would get into the CSE branch or not would be based on your performance in the GD & PI round.

The 100 percent placement is guaranteed when the students in the branch are equally hardworking and skillful in their subjects of interest.
Having known some people studying in both these institutions, I can say that KIIT is promising and is getting better every year. Thapar is a well-known and much older institute. You can choose either by preferring the college or the branch.
| Categories | CS from KIIT | Mechanical at Thapar |
| Course Fee | 12.91 lakhs | 13.23 lakhs |

| Average CTC | 12-16 LPA | 11 LPA |
| Recruiting Companies | Wipro, Infosys, Dell, Deloitte, etc. | Tech Mahindra, TCS, JP Morgan, Cisco, etc. |
So you should decide your field of interest and what type of job or higher studies you would like to do and then opt for the branch that fits best for you.
