No, it is not compulsory to stay in the KIIT hostels. You can stay at some place else too. The mess food of the electronics hostel is not good. This is why some of my batchmates have rented apartments for themselves. They can cook, and they have an easy mode of transport like scooty/bike. Moreover, renting is not an expensive option over here. It is affordable.

For girls, there is only one hostel called the Queen's Castle whereas, for boys, there were several hostels named King Palace 1, 2 and so on.

The second-year rooms were bigger and triple-occupancy. Moreover, the students have the chance to choose their own roommates. The rooms and roommates allotted in the second year are permanent for the rest of the years.

KIIT is a massive yet beautiful campus that is divided according to branches of various programs. These are named after famous rivers of India. I will share the first-day experience of my brother who was very excited to get admission here.

As he reached the campus, he was asked to report to the Central Auditorium in Campus 6 and was also given a form to fill up. In the auditorium, a screen displays the roll numbers. Students are expected to go to the table allocated where they are given their ID card and in a small slip an alphanumeric code is written, which is their room number.

Students are assigned hostels based on the details they filled in earlier. My brother was assigned to Kings’ Palace VII and a bus dropped him off at his hostel. He found a long queue as everyone waited for allotment of their rooms. Students are given time to settle in and bid farewell to their parents which is a very emotional moment.

The next day, the seniors will take you on a campus tour where you're shown all the campuses, the Auditoriums, the KIIT Stadium, the food courts, the Gym, the swimming pool, etc. After this, the hostel orientation takes place and classes begin in the D block.

The hostel rules imposed on girls at KIIT University are very illogical and unreasonable. The first and foremost rule is the check-in at 7 p.m. Girls are prohibited from even roaming around.

One of my friends narrated an incident wherein she wanted to go out for a movie and she falsely filled in the details as her place of visit being Big Bazar. The warden denied permission saying it was too far.
Another incident was when she wanted to go out with her friends in the afternoon to attend a function but the warden denied permission.
Another issue she faced was when she received mail from her home, the address of which has changed, the authorities refused to accept the Mail and verified little details like the ticket number and its timings.
Another illogical incident took place when she had to approach many people just to get her application signed for attending a class outside the campus.
The hostel authorities even crib if the students come 15 minutes late from the coaching.
Parents are not allowed inside the hostel after 6 pm.
The girls cannot even laugh or speak loudly at night and everything they are visiting the mess they have to cover their bodies.

These were some incidents of illogical restrictions imposed on the girls that stem from a huge communication gap between the college and the hostel authorities. I hope KIIT stops gender discrimination and makes more logical and flexible rules.

The hostel facilities at KIIT are well-organized and comfortable for students.The hostel rooms are usually provided with basic facilities such as beds, study tables, chairs, cupboards , and good internet connectivity . The hostels are clean and have proper security, along with wardens to manage student safely. The mess provides regular meals with a fixed menu, and the food quality is generally decent with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options available. The hostel registration process is simple and done during the admission process itself , but it was crowdy though. For students staying outside the campus, there are also many PGs and rented rooms available near KIIT road .
