What Students Say
Likes
- The campus is quite big and spacious. Faculties are well qualified and teach well. Placement opportunities are getting better every year.
- Faculties are well experienced in their particular fields. There are coding clubs (more than one) for students willing to learn.
- No such pressure of attendance and dress code. Seniors are friendly and helpful.
Dislikes
- The course is quite outdated according to the industry standards. Exams papers can be quite tough and it is not easy to maintain a good cgpa.
- There is lack of sports facilities (no proper ground for sports). Campus isn't that well maintained. Administration is not up to the mark. In my 3 years of campus life, there was one single instance of cultural fest.
- Internship opportunities are not good and one has to apply outside for the same. Placement opportunities are decent as mostly mass recruiters come for on campus placement drives.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum does not cover the latest technologies and tools used in the industry. hands-on experience through labs, projects and internships are negligible. The grading system could be better in my opinion.
Placement Experience
Students get eligible to sit for placement drive from 7th semester onwards. Companies ( mostly mass recruiters ) come for placement drives and offer CTC around 3-7 lpa. Most of the students in (CSE,IT,ECE) get placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
Per semester fee is around 37,100 which makes it 74,200 every year. Out of which 28,000 is the tuition fee per semester and the rest is a combination of development fee, lab fee and examination fees. For reservation under EWS, fees is very less compared to regular students. Fee is higher compared to other government colleges in this state as this college offers self financing courses which are not fully funded.
Campus Life
The annual cultural fest, WALTZ genrally takes place around April-May. Cultural fest has happened just once in the previous 3 years. Library is small but well equipped. Classrooms are spacious but not well maintained. Sports facilities are poor within campus.
Hostel Facilities
I opted for hostel in my first year and the facilities provided were poor. The rooms are not well maintained. Meal quality in mess is very poor. These incidents made me go for a room outside campus for better facilities.
Admission
I applied to a few other colleges such as VIT, SRM, KIIT through their entrance exams and got confirmed admission from each of them. I chose this college as the fee is relatively lower being a government college and better ROI in my opinion. My WBJEE rank wasnt good enough to get my desired branches in Jadavpur Univerity or KGEC which made me opt for this particular college. The admission here takes place through two ways- WBJEE counselling and Decentralised counselling. To get admission through WBJEE one need a decent rank ( around 9k) for the upper branches. For making it through decentralised counselling, one needs to do significantly well in their board exams. Admission experience is quite smooth. Also, there is no such reservation for homestate or domicile candidates.
Faculty
Faculties in my particular stream( Information Technology) are quite good. They are mostly approachable and teach well. Faculties are well qualified and that is perhaps the only good thing about this college. Every semester, there is one midterm examination and one semester examination. Exams generally range from moderate to hard. In my experience, a good number of students fail to clear certain papers every year.
Interview Experience
No such GD takes place for admission. Admission is strictly on basis of WBJEE rank. Once documents are verified and one clears the cutoff of their respective branch, one can get admission without sitting for additional written tests.
