Course Curriculum Overview
Specific Aspects of the curriculum that influenced my decision to choose this course include the in depth studies of data mining, data structures and algorithm, most of the relevant programmimg languages of this time and the way the programme has been designed will lead to a very well rounded knowledge in the field of data science. The curriculum provides hands on experiences starting from the basics to the advanced topics thus producing highly skilled professionals in the process. The course curriculum needs some development in the modules studied by the first year students and irrelevant topics should be replaced by programmimg languages. The exams occur quite frequently and the difficulty level ranges from moderate to slightly difficult.
Internships Opportunities
The main stream companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys etc provide the roles of paid and unpaid internships depending on the offers provided to the students by the companies based on their academics and skills. Students might be given specific roles and tasks within the companies for them to gain hands on industrial experience.
Placement Experience
The students become eligible for campus placements from third year that is after 5th semester. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant and IBM are amongst the mass hirers. Almosy 80 percent of the students get placed every year and the top 10 percent of the students receive high paying job offers. The average package is around 4.86 LPA and in 2023, the highest package was 16 LPA and in 2022, the highest package was 44 LPA. Talking about my future plans, I wish to pursue my masters abroad after completing my undergraduate course here.

Campus Life
At present, the campus life is not the most vibrant as due to some issues in the last few years, the cultural fests have stopped. The famous fest ECLESIA was held quite a few years ago. Despite this, there are numerous student driven endeveaours that are full of life. The libraries are air conditioned with a very good and vast collection of books. The most significant aspect about the library is the equally well equipped digital library that comes with numerous technical advantages that allows students to access past years questions, soft copies of books etc. Sports and extracurricular activites offered on campus are various and each of them are equally engaging. Student portals and student run portals also impact the students in a very positive way.
Admission
I applied to various other colleges like JU, KGEC and JGEC, CU but my rank was not high enough to get a cse/ece in those colleges and when it came to choosing the college over the stream. i preferred to choose the better stream over the college and because of this reason, I chose data science in HIT Kolkata over Mechanical in KGEC and ECE/Civil in JGEC. The admission process in our college is done via the WBJEE and JEE MAIN Counselling Processes. 2024's cutoff was higher than that of 2023 and 2022. For General students, the closing rank for CSE (Data Science) in WBJEE Counselling was 5713 and in JEE MAINS Counselling, it was 74731. The overall experience was quite smooth
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is quite high as there are at least two teachers teaching the same subject as the curriculum of each subject is divided into models that can be taught separately by the professors. The faculty to student relationship is quite good as most of the professors are approachable and friendly with obviously a few exceptions here and there. Amongst the professors,my personal favorites include Prof.Subhajit Dutta, HOD of Data Science department and Ms.Sudipta Roy of Mathematics Department. There are two semester exams every single year leading to a total of 8 end semester exams each of 60 marks along with 40 marks worth of internal assessment divided into 4 unit tests during each semester. The exam's difficulty ranges from moderate to slightly difficult and almost all of the students pass the exams. The coursework is quite relevant with an exception for the 1st Year's Course which is full of topics that are not so relevant but they need to be studied as per the new UGC Guidelines.
Night Life
Sadly, there are no gyms in the college campus. However, there are so many cafeterias within the campus and each of them are equally nice places to hang out and have tasty treats. There are no boys hostel within the campus and the girls hostel has got strict rules and regulations with a curfew time of 7pm. The famous places to hang out outside the college consist of a tea stall, a small cafe named Coffee and Hobby. The locality is not very friendly to roam around at night as the college is situated on the outskirts of the main city.
