What Students Say
Likes
- Campus & Environment: The campus is quite spacious and green, offering a peaceful atmosphere. It’s a fully residential college, which creates a close-knit community.
- . Infrastructure: The academic buildings, labs, and library are decent and improving every year.
- Labs are fairly well-equipped for core engineering branches (like Mechanical, Civil, ECE, and CSE).
Dislikes
- Placement Gaps for Core Branches: For Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, and Chemical, placements are not as strong
- Hostel & Food Quality: Hostels are livable but maintenance and mess food can be inconsistent.
- Location Limitation: Being in Haldia (a bit away from Kolkata), access to the city’s resources, internships, and industrial exposure can be limited.
Course Curriculum Overview
I’d give the course curriculum a 7.5/10 overall. It’s comprehensive in fundamentals, reasonably structured, and academically sound — but to make it truly “industry-ready,” it needs more practical exposure, regular updates, and modern teaching methods.
Placement Experience
I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin
Fees and Financial Aid
Detailed fee structure is - 68000 per semester Total fees almost 6-7 lakhs for completion of coarse And the fees is increasing year by year Student can take scholarship Hostel fees is about 12000 for 6 months
Campus Life
HIT organizes some really enjoyable annual and technical events every year. “HITKALPA” – the annual cultural festival, usually held in March or April, is the biggest celebration. It includes live concerts, dance, drama, art shows, and even DJ nights.
Hostel Facilities
I’ve been staying in one of the on-campus hostels at HIT, and overall, I’d say the facilities are pretty decent for the fees charged. Each room is usually shared by two or three students, depending on the year and hostel building.
Admission
I didn’t get into the top-tier government colleges I initially aimed for, but I don’t regret choosing HIT. It gave me a safe, academically steady environment to grow — with decent placements, good peers, and a campus life I genuinely enjoyed.
Faculty
At Haldia Institute of Technology, the faculty-to-student ratio is roughly 1:25 in most branchesSo, in a class of 60–70, there are 2–3 professors who handle core subjects each semester. In general, the faculty-student relationship is friendly but formal. If you approach them sincerely, they help a lot — but you have to take the initiative. Professors rarely chase you for projects or assignments; you have to go to them.
Night Life
HIT isn’t a city-based campus like those in Kolkata, so the nightlife here is quieter — more like a campus-community vibe than a city-nightlife one. Campus Entry/Exit: The main gate generally closes around 9:00–9:30 PM for day scholars
