Course Curriculum Overview

2

As I said , I was from pure maths background so I didn't like the curriculum and syllabus at all. I am no one to suggest the professors how to teach , but I think the teaching style of every one of them could be more thought provoking, should have been taught the courses on more intuitionistic way rather than just spitting the same notes every semester.

Internships Opportunities

1

Engineering students get most of the internship opportunities in the companies, but not in these science departments. But if you are interested in jobs , you also can try for the internships. Engineering students are very helpful, they will sit beside you , offer you weed , and will help you to get a job (yes , this college is different bruh).

Placement Experience

1

90% students from M.Sc in Mathematics don't go for placements. In our batch only 3 people ( I might be wrong) got placed , 2 in ZIFO R&D with roughly about 4.5 LPA in Bangalore, 1 in BYJU'S (I don't know the CTC). My plans were getting into Ph.D. in Mathematics. I am still working on that.

Fees and Financial Aid

I don't know about TFW category ( Tuition fee waiver), but if you are a west bengal born and brought up guy/girl , then you can get SVMCM scholarship (everyone gets this) on completion of the criteria, and roughly the course fees except hostel and mess fees (I was not in hostel) was around 1 lakh (in 2 years). There was obviously some relaxation for the SC, ST, OBC people as per the govt. of India norms.

Campus Life

5

The campus life is very much good in IIEST. The campus is beautiful. Take one cup of Ranjit da's chai, drink it , go inside the campus through the 'First gate' , and you are in a peaceful world. The campus has so much things to do. Music club (Euphony), Dance club (I forgot the name sorry), Drama club (Les Thespians), and there are so many... These are very active clubs...You can play Cricket, Football, Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball etc. inside the campus.

Admission

I had to qualify IIT JAM (Mathematics) to get admission in IIEST. When you will see that with the JAM rank you can't get into an IIT for your Masters , then automatically you will come to know about CCMN website , where the counselling process of the NITs and IIEST takes place. Nobody dreams of doing a masters from IIEST.

Faculty

3

Students to professor ratio is about 3:1, professors are helpful , but as I was from pure mathematics background , I didn't like the curriculum and the syllabus of the department at all. I just kept continuing my studies just to get the M.Sc degree. But if someone is interested in applied mathematics, then the department is good, if not the best.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My decision to choose this course depended on the fact that this course provides you with the opportunity to get various jobs in the industries with a high lpa. But this college does not help much in that aspect. All I had to do was myself. It is my humble opinion that the institution should improve its guidance in the area of its teaching methods. The exams were twice a year and were quite difficult on their own.

From the 2nd last semester, that is the final year, students become eligible for campus placements. Last year, two of our seniors got placed at Reborn Child Development Centre (Durgapur and Asansol) with an average package of Rs 200,000. This year, three students of our batch, including me, got an internship for three months at Reborn through an in-person interview.

Nowadays the future as a Biotechnology student is bright as it has a lot of industrial options. The faculty-student ratio is 1:6, all professors are completed their Ph.D. and they are very efficient in both online and offline mode. There are 4 CA, and 2 PCA in one semester as an internal exam, the difficulty level of that exam is moderate.
