Remarks

IIEST Shibpur is one of the oldest Institutes in West Bengal. Formerly, the Institute was known as Bengal Engineering College. It is a Public technical University recognized by the Government of India under MHRD as ?Û÷Institute of National Importance. The Institute is considered as one of the top engineering institutes of India.Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology provides many facilities like Canteen, Residence Hall, Auditorium, Games and sports, Library, Computer Centre, Guest House, Medical Facilities etc.Apart from these facilities, the Institute has very experienced and talented teaching faculty members. The teachers are very helpful and co-operative.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Great Scope in Agriculture and high demand job. Faculty to student ratio - 10:1 Some teachers are Phd holders while some cleared UGC NET after MSc. and MTech. Some teacher have very good method of teaching and they are focused on students performance while most teachers just give notes and translate it, they does not have good experience in teaching.¼_There are two exams in a semester: Mid Semester Exam and End Semester Exam. They exams have medium difficulty.

Internships Opportunities

Placement Experience

4

How are the placements at IIEST, Shibpur? The placement season is going on as I write the answer. Placement process has started from July'18 for the 2019 batch and it will continue till the end of May'19. I don't know much about the placement scenario of all the departments, but yes, I can give you the details of placement stats of mechanical engineering. All the stats which I'm gonna share are the current status of placement, there are many companies which haven't visited our campus yet and I am not considering them here.NUMBERTill now 42 out of 65 students got placed. Out of these 42 students 32 got placed in core mechanical, 5 in consultancy and 5 in mass companies.COMPANIESCESC, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto, Tata power, Saint Gobain, MN Dastur, Hindustan Unilever, Vedanta Limited, Hundai, DCPL, WSP, VikramSolar, TEGA Industries, Tata projects, Elegant Marine, Denso Haryana, Haldia Petrochemicals, Aditya Birla, Eleation, Tata bluScope, JSL, JSW, Britannia, Wood group, Daimler, Tata Steel First. Whenever some says IIEST or any College has a not so good placements record, ask them to define good placements. Before categorising we must have a clear understanding of what distinguishes good and bad placements. For you, take a minute and think what is good placement to you.For me it would be :60-70% students being placed. ( there are always some incompetent students in a class. Colleges are no different. Why would a company recruit them 100% good placements are a myth)Average salary of 6?ÛÒ8 lpa .Highest Package of 40?ÛÒ50 lpa . ( this doesn't affect the college but it's something people flaunt about. So count that in )Number of Core Engineering companies, Consultancy firms and Mass recruiters. Now having defined the paparameters, let's judge IIEST Shibpur Placements.Percentage Placed : 55?ÛÒ60 % ( IIIEST loses a point here )Average salary : 6 lpa ( IIEST loses again but not bad )Highest Package : 41 lpa ( IIEST scores good )Over the last few years more than 200+ companies havw recruited from IIEST, Including Amazon, BHEL, Britania, Bridge & Roof co. Blue Star, CCD, Coal India, Capqemini, CESC, DXCorr, DVC, Essar, Essar mining, Erricson,Vedanta, TATA Steel, TATA Metallics , Microsoft, Hindustan Motors, Unilever, Shapoorji Paloonji, LnT, HSBC, Hyundai, IOCL, ITC, Mahindra, Maruti, Mu sigman, PWC, Samsung , Siemens, TATA power, Hitachi, ZS Associates etc.All of the companies listed are Core Engineering companies or Top Consultancy Giants. ( IIEST definitely gets a point here )So, out of 4 parameters we defined IIEST scores in two, manages okaish in one and loses out in one. Do the math ! IIEST seems like a good institute for placements after all.

Fee Structure And Facilities

MHRD has recently changed the fee structure of a few government institutions. IIEST Shibpur is one of them. From the upcoming session, the tuition fees itself will be 1,25,000.Yes you will get a scholarship based on your 1st year results. The toppers (based on the CGPA of 1st year) of each and every department after the completion of 1st year will receive a particular amount as scholarship from GAABESU (Global Alumni Association of Bengal Engineering and Science University) office. Not only 1st year, Merit-Based Scholarship is also given to departmental toppers for subsequent years too.You can also avail Book Grants and Need-Based Scholarship based on your annual family income only if it's low.For more information, you can visit the GAABESU office inside the campus.Although IIEST has a rich heritage of 164 years, it's been recently converted to a central level college and thus the name, ?ÛÏIIEST" is new. But since it has a huge alumni network, the placements are always become better year by year. The coding culture of the college has improved significantly leading to better coders and thus people getting jobs in Google, Microsoft, Barclays, Amazon. The scenario of internships has also become better, although our college doesn't allow a 6 months internship, it allows a 2 months one. Deutsche Bank, Wells Fargo both came for 2 monhs internships as well as the usual FTE roles.

Campus Life

Right now, I am a 3rd year student at IIEST, Shibpur (about to enter 4th year this July) and all that I can say about life in the campus is that you can do whatever you want to do in the campus! Absolute freedom! Now, its upto the student how he/she wants to spend time inside the campus because IIEST Shibpur has all sorts of facilities that a student might need. To add to this, I can very safely comment that anyone who has spent quality time in IIEST Shibpur will undoubtedly tell you that life at IIEST Shibpur is awesome! :)How is life at IIEST shibpurI will mention only one incident, which explains the life of dogs along with the life of others. This may be funny, but I can not resist myself to share it.I was brushing my teeth after dinner and found a worker throw some extra bread of hostel mess from the window. Two dog came, sniffed the breads and left those. I have seen fighting between dogs for a piece of bread earlier in my life. But they are dogs of IIEST, they do not touch dry breads. Though they are stray dogs, they show their brand. What are the best things that one can do at IIEST Shibpur? How is campus life in IIEST Shibpur, especially for Non BengalisHow is the hostel life in IIEST Shibpurb What is the mess menu at IIEST, ShibpurHow is the quality of food at IIEST Shibpur, what is the monthly expenditure on mess and what are the timings of food?Right now, I am a 3rd year student at IIEST, Shibpur (about to enter 4th year this July) and all that I can say about life in the campus is that you can do whatever you want to do in the campus! Admission

You can get admission in IIEST Shibpur by simply giving JEE Mains and performing well to get a good rank, that's all. There is no separate application for it. However, you must know it also has 50% reservation for home state students, i.e. students of West Bengal. It is a good college for Btech and is comparable, sometimes even better, to NIT Durgapur. So, you can understand that it holds a standard position.
