Likes
- Well equipped laboratories with all necessary instruments and chemicals and whatever that is required. Even Electron microscope are available
- Senior and Junior relationship is great, and PhD scholars often guide you in studies and in Life
- Canteens, Playground, Books shops are near or inside the Campus with Department and Central Library with access to many books and online resources and WiFi
Dislikes
- Politics is on peak since great colleges in india such as JNU are engaged in political activities
- Attendance above 75 percent is mandatory to appear for exams
- The duration of practical can be of 4-5 hours at a strech sometimes apart from Theory classes
Course Curriculum Overview
MSc in Life sciences syllabus is a comprehensive course that gives admission in PG course from any Biological Sciences discipline such as Physiology, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, etc. And is aligned with competitive national level exams such as GATE XL, CSIR NET Life science, etc
Placement Experience
Not all courses provides placements. But Placements are often common in departments such as Geology, for other departments, faculties can provide letters of recommendations and absorb as PhD scolars after PG completion and satisfactory performance
Fees and Financial Aid
It is an excellent University, that provides Bachelor's to Masters to PhD and Post Doctoral Studeies in Kolkata. The Faculties and Infrastructure is excellent, The fees for each semester for MSc is less than ?4500 & Hostel seperate for Boys and Girls are available. Seniors are also very supportive, sports and co currilcular activities are also promoted, also labs are well equipped and frequently seminars (national and international) are taken. Large Campus, one in College Street, Kolkata and another one in New Town.
Campus Life
Active Clubs such as for Sports, Debate, Music, Dramatics, Photography is present ; The infrastructure and social life of thr University is also excellent. Fests are conducted every now and then, and famous celebrities perform, students can participate willingly as well
Admission
It is one of the best University in Kolkata, and in the country. MSc in Life Sciences as an integrated course is offered only by limited institutions. Also Presidency is very reputed for it's legacy and almuni including Noble Laureates.
Faculty
Every Faculty are well versed in their discipline, for example there are 29 faculties in the department of life sciences, each having their PhDs and Post doctoral experience from National and International Institutions such as JNU, IISERs, IISc, Presidency, Jadavpur University, IICB, IITs, and other top notch foreign institutions. Each have seperate labs and carry research and train Interns, PhD scholars and Post Doc trainees
Night Life
There are many famous Cafes around the campus of University such as Coffee House, Mitra Cafe, Nescafe outlet and 2 other canteens in college, many other tea stalls and eateries nearby. Late Night hangout in campus upto 8:30-9:30 pm is usually common. There is a fully equipped gymnasium in the university campus as well. Hostel is a seperate building for boys right next to the university campus, and girls have seperate hostel and PGs where Bus service is provided to pick up and drop the students
