Maulana Azad College was established on December 9, 1926. The college functions under the administrative control of The Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal. Maulana Azad College inherits a history of progressive development since December 9, 1926, when Islamia College was founded by Lord Lytton, the then Governor of Bengal. Immediately after independence, the College was renamed Central Calcutta College and its doors were opened to all students irrespective of caste, creed and religion. In 1960, the college was renamed Maulana Azad College in memory of the great national leader and eminent scholar, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

Vision of the college is “To strive for inclusiveness and to be trusted as one of the premier state educational service providers for all including the underprivileged and minorities”
Mission of the college is "To strive for excellence and to provide our students with best of the opportunities of learning and to yearn for inculcating the spirit of joy of learning beyond the boundaries”

Scholarships -

Maulana Azad National Scholarship Scheme for Girls belonging to Minorities is provided by Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF) which is funded by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India

The amount of scholarship will be Rs. 12,000 which will be released in two installments of Rs. 6,000/- each
Only Girl Students belonging to National Minorities (i.e. Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, Parsis) can apply
Candidate should have secured not less than 55% marks (in aggregate) in the secondary school certificate examination (Class xth) conducted by any recognized Centre/State Board of Secondary Education
Family income of the student from all sources should be less than Rs. 1,00,000 in the preceding financial year.

The library is quite clean and good . the canteen food is also nice
In this college i most liked is teacher they are so sweet and polite they answer you of every question.
The college provides various scholarships like the kanyashree, swami vivekananda scholarship and many more.

Dislikes

Excess departments and many department are not so good just science departments are extraordinary moreover all the departments are average
Library doesn't provide any books to specific department students I don't know why. But there is no current books for students, maximum books are outdated.
No placement No internship opportunities, it's just a degree based college does not provide any extra for students

College environment is peaceful. There's no unnecessary fights or quarrels going on over unions.

Dislikes

The library should have more books. Also the borrowing process should be easier.
there are not many events which helps students bond, like field studies or events.

Admission:

.My first choice was JU and Presidency university. However, in the year 2022, the entrance exam that was the main criteria for these colleges didn't happen. The admission depended entirely on 12th marks. Unfortunately, my own 10+2 marks didn't fit that criteria, so I chose this college. This college has better arts faculty than many other college in Kolkata.

Our beloved Maulana Azad College

Admission:

I choose Maulana Azad College over other colleges because my financial condition is not that much good and it's the only one college under Calcutta University which gives students a chance to pursue their career within a very short range of money. Our college has a very high cut off during admission. In our times the admission process was through only the college portal but now a days the admission process is through centralised portal only. Later on the college opens they are on portal for admission.

Laboratory infrastructure: All the necessary resources and instruments are available in the laboratory of our Chemistry department.

Admission:

I applied for almost all of the NAAC accredited A graded college. In each of those my name appeared for the selection list for admission. But I chose Maulana And College over the other colleges due to its best quality education. Moreover, I wanted to study in a co-educational college. The admission process of our college is conducted in online mode. Admission is based on the marks obtained in Higher Secondary Examination. The general cutoff for BSc Chemistry Honours in our college is approximately 85%.

About our second home- Maulana Azad College

In our college, the teaching infrastructure of our department of mathematics is surely quite good.
The surrounding environment is also quite healthy and allows us to focus on our studies.

Dislikes

Dress code is not good, no option to take single pair of uniform

Admission:

We'll we are the COVID batch i.e. 2020 batch. So we don't need to give admission tests as we are selected as the number depending on the subject and total numbers concern. The course is eligible for any 12 th pass students and the application form will be available in the College website and application fees are 100 rupees I guess.

The application process conducted by the college is strictly online. Therefore, candidates looking to take admission in any of the UG and PG programs must register online with the official website of the college. To apply for admission to the college, candidates must follow the below-mentioned steps –

Visit the official website of the college and click on ‘Apply Online’.
Fill out the online application form carefully. (A separate application for multiple Honours courses).
Submit the completely filled application form online by paying INR 110 (for UG Programmes), INR 160 (for M.Sc.) and INR 125 (for MA) either online or download a challan to pay the required amount at any branch of Indian Bank.
On the basis of the submitted online application, a merit list is prepared.
Candidates must carry original and 2 attested photocopies of the below-listed documents at the time of counselling –
- Print-out of the submitted application form
- 10^th and 10+2 mark sheets and passing certificate
- Graduate degree and mark sheet

The college offers several UG and PG courses under different disciplines of specializations viz. BA, B.Sc. (Hons. and General), MA Urdu and English and M.Sc. Zoology. Candidates are selected on the basis of the merit of the qualifying examination. The admission committee prepares a cut-off list to select the deserving candidates for these courses.

The last date of admission was 5^th August 2022. The new admission schedule for 2023 has not been released. The schedule is expected to be released soon on its official website.
