JEE Advanced reservation 2026 for GEN-EWS, SC, ST, OBC (NCL), PwD, and Female category candidates will be released along with the official brochure of JEE Advanced 2026. Reserved category candidates must provide a valid proof of JEE Advanced 2026 Eligibility for the reservation to claim the JEE Advanced reservation.

  • JEE Advanced reservation percentage is different for different categories, including 10% for the Gen-EWS category, 27% for the OBC-NCL category, 15% for the SC category, and 7.5% for the ST category.

JEE Advanced 2026 Reservation Criteria for GEN-EWS/SC/ST/OBC-NCL

Indian nationals belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL are admitted as per the rules and guidelines laid down by the Government of India. JEE Advanced 2026 reservation includes:

  • 10% JEE Advanced 2026 seats are reserved for GEN-EWS candidates.

Important Points to Remember

  • Backward Classes should be present in the most recent and updated Central List of OBC (NCL)
  • Candidates appearing for JEE Advanced 2026 belonging to the Creamy Layer (CL) of OBC are not eligible for Reservations and are treated as part of the General (GEN) i.e., Unreserved category.
  • Candidates from OBC (CL) shall compete for Open Seats i.e., the seats for which everyone is eligible.
  • Eligibility for SC/ST reservation is determined and given to only those tribes and castes that are specifically and explicitly mentioned in the Central List of castes and tribes from corresponding states laid down by the Government of India.

Ans. Yes, reservation also exists in JEE Advanced 2026. JEE Advanced follows the reservation criteria as prescribed by the Government of India. JEE Advanced 2026 Reservation for Female Candidates

  • A decision has been taken at the level of the IIT Council to improve the gender balance in the undergraduate programs at the IITs.
  • 20% of supernumerary seats will be reserved for female candidates.
  • The supernumerary seats specifically for female candidates will be created without any reduction in the number of seats that were made available for non-female candidates.
  • These supernumerary seats will only be offered to those female candidates who are declared qualified in JEE Advanced 2026.

JEE Advanced 2026 Reservation Criteria for Defence Personnel

Defence Service candidates are defined as children of defence/paramilitary personnel killed or permanently disabled in action at the war front or peacetime operations. 2 seats are reserved for allotment in each institute under JEE Advanced for DS candidates. However, in order to avail this preferential allotment, a DS candidate must qualify the JEE Advanced and hence, be in the Common Rank List of JEE.

JEE Advanced 2026 Reservation Criteria for PwD Candidates

Persons with Disability (PwD)- 5% seats (horizontally) are reserved in each of the following categories:

  1. OPEN i.e. GENERAL
  2. GEN-EWS
  3. OBC-NCL
  4. SC
  5. ST

Candidates with 40% or more disability, irrespective of the type- locomotive, visual, or dyslexic, are given higher priority. Preference to Leprosy-cured candidates who are otherwise fit enough to take up the course.

Details of the Medical Authority issuing the Disability Certificate

The following Report is required to be submitted by Dyslexic candidates:

  • Handicap percentage should not be less than 40%
  • Permanent disability only
  • Issued from Govt. organization only.

A scribe is an individual who writes the examination for a person with a physical or learning disability that prevents them from writing the examination. Typically, the scribe reads out the question and writes the response/marks the response in the OMR sheet after the candidate says the final answer. For IIT JEE Advanced, the scribe is a class 11 student from the science stream, having Mathematics as one of the subjects

  • PwD candidates (including Dyslexic, blind, lost fingers/hands, disability in upper limbs) can avail the services of a scribe to mark responses in the OMR sheet
  • Send the Scribe Request form (find below) along with the PwD Certificate/Dyslexic Evaluation report to the Chairman, JEE Advanced, uploaded during registration
  • Candidates cannot bring their own scribes. Zonal IITs do the needful
  • The candidate and scribe meet one day before the exam, along with the IIT representatives
  • If it is found that the candidate does not require the use of a scribe, the evaluation, ranking, and admission stand canceled

JEE Advanced Reservation- Documents Required

Students choosing any reserved category must verify their category by providing the reservation category documents or disability documents. Documents required for JEE Advanced Reservation verification are listed below.

Essential Documents for All Candidates

  • Class X certificate or Birth Certificate
  • Class XII (or equivalent examination) certificate
  • If the name is not the same as in the Class X certificate, a gazette notification showing the change of name.

Essential Documents for GEN-EWS category candidates

  • GEN-EWS certificate, which should have been issued on or after April 01, 2023, in consonance with the guidelines of the GOI.
  • A declaration in lieu of the GEN-EWS certificate can be uploaded in case the candidate fails to collect the GEN-EWS certificate.

Essential Documents for OBC-NCL category candidates

  • OBC-NCL certificate which should have been issued on or after April 01, 2023, in consonance with the guidelines of the GOI.
  • A declaration in lieu of the OBC-NCL certificate can be uploaded in case the candidate fails to collect the OBC-NCL certificate.

Essential Documents for SC or ST category candidates

  • Physical Disability Certificate issued by the notified medical authority
  • Dyslexic candidates need to submit FORM-DYSLEXIC 1 and 2 instead of FORM-PwD. The certificate must mention ‘SEVERE’ under Dyslexia category.

Request letter to the Chairman of the respective zonal coordinating IIT (FORM-SCRIBE).

For Candidates Seeking Admission under the DS category

Certificate (FORM-DS) issued by a competent authority in the Directorate of Resettlement and Rehabilitation, New Delhi under the Ministry of Defence or the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India.

JEE Advanced Reservation- GEN-EWS Quota Details

Persons who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs, and OBCs, and whose family has a gross annual income below Rs 8 lakh, are only identified as EWS for the benefit of reservation. The benefit of reservation under EWS can be availed upon production of an Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority.

Who can’t access the EWS quota?

Regardless of what the family income is, if the candidates fall under any of the following, they can’t avail the benefits of the EWS quota:

  • Candidates whose families own 5 acres of agricultural land or above.
  • Candidates who own a residential flat of 1,000 sq. ft. and above.
  • Candidates whose parents possess a residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities.
  • Candidates whose parents own a residential plot of 200 sq. yards and above in areas other than the notified municipalities.

Authorities that can issue an ‘Income and Asset Certificate’

Following is the list of the competent authorities who can issue an ‘Income and Asset Certificate’:

  • District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/ Collector/ Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy Commissioner/ 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate/ Sub-Divisional Magistrate/ Taluka Magistrate! Executive Magistrate/ Extra Assistant Commissioner

  • Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar

Is 75% Necessary for JEE Advanced?

Yes, scoring 75% marks in the qualifying examination or Class 12 Board examination is necessary for admission to courses after JEE Advanced 2026. Students belonging to SC/ST/OBC category must secure a minimum of 65% marks in the class 12 board examination.

  • Candidates must have completed class 12th with at least 5 subjects.
  • Students must be among the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective class 12th board examination.

Ques. Can I change my category in JEE Advanced 2026 Registration form?

Ans. The category of a candidate as entered for JEE Main 2026, which will be made available by the JEE Apex Board, will be final and shall remain the same in JEE Advanced 2026. Any requests for change of category will not be entertained.

Ques. Is there a sports quota for admission to IITs through JEE Advanced 2026?

Ans. No. There is no sports quota for admission in IITs.
