NIT DURGAPUR - A COMPLETE OVERVIEW

The campus placements are pretty good with average placement of 11.58 lacs/annum
The campus is very beautiful and very lushy green.

Dislikes

The girls to boys ratio is very less about 1:6
The laboratory equipments are pretty old and outdated

Placement are the best part of the college. Last year highest placement was 51 lacs/annum, the lowest placement was 4.5 lacs/annum. The average placement was 11.58 lacs / annum. The main companies that came for placements included Mucrosoft, Apple, IOCL, BPCL, Reliance etc

NIT Durgapur College Review

NIT Durgapur campus area is big. It's located on a campus of 187 acres.
NIT Durgapur's NIRF ranking of 2024 is 44th in the Engineering categories.

Dislikes

1st year's restrictions 1) Not allow in any feast in late night 2) don't allow out of campus without family.
The academic pressure of NIT Durgapur is too much

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have taken mechanical engineering from NIT DURGAPUR. And now I am in my 2nd year. Now I feel that I made a mistake while taking mechanical engineering. This branch is so difficult. But by taking mechanical engineering branch, I got to know how to enjoy life even under so much pressure. Every exam in NIT Durgapur there is time for exam, 1 hour for mid semester exam and 3 hours for end semester exam.

NIT Durgapur holds a strong record of campus placements and will continue to do. Average package last year was around 8.5 LPA. Many PSU, Big 4 and IT companies take part in the recruitment process and students are fairly selected.

Likes

Decent placements with good companies providing a variety of opportunities to students.
Competent peers to grow and collaborate with for both skill and self development.

Dislikes

Traditional curriculum and Teaching methods are decent.
Campus is relatively distant from major cities which is a drawback

Placement Experience:

Students are eligble for Intenrships from 5th Semster and campus placements at 7th Semster. The companies that visit our campus are Microsoft,BNY Mellon,Wells Fargo, PwC,Mahindra,Reliance and many more.

NIT Durgapur - A College, A Home

Likes

Campus - lush green, beautiful, and huge
Course - well structured and easily followable

Dislikes

Too much restrictions for the first year students.
Sports facilities could be improved a lot.

Placement Experience:

The students become eligible to sit for the placements during the course of the 7th semester and a variety of companies visit the campus ranging from Microsoft to LnT, Steradian. Highest package was offered to a Mechanical Engineering student of 70LPA for a role of SDE at JPMC London. The overall average package is 13.1LPA and the branch average package is around 9-10 LPA for core branches and 20-21LPA for circuit branches. Around 80-85% secure proper placements during the placement year. After getting my degree, I would definitely pursue higher studies from a foreign university.

College friends are the best one I have a lot of them
Some professors which I really very liked.

Dislikes

Mess food not very good for some days of the week
Some professors of my branch and others also

Campus placement is not very good for the current year as of recision in the market .but it is good for the core branches. Fir my branch highest recutor is the PWC and jsw companies taking almost 50-60 students from the batch..there average package approximately 10-12 lakhs

My experience at NIT DURGAPUR

Recently, there was an inaugration of Research Building which is very good for college.

Dislikes

Very bad laboratory condition. Lack of equipments.

Placement Experience:

From 5th semester, you can apply for internships and from 7th semester you can apply for full time roles in college( on campus ). In 2023, highest package was 70 lakhs per annum and it was for CSE student.

My experience in NIT

Likes

I like the idea of clubs where we can share our ideas, thoughts. We can enjoy by doing our work which we are passionate about
I like the healthy competition between the people of different states. We can different people and know their culture

Dislikes

I didn't like the food in our hostel.it is too sweet.
We are getting permission for club events and fests.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Present I was persuing Mechanical Engineering in National institute of technology Durgapur. I was very much fond of Mechanical engineering from my childhood. I was interested in learning new things in a creative way . I was fond of bikes , cars and machines. The function of machines and their design. I was interested in learning about automobile and industries. So I selected Mechanical Engineering. We have labs where we do different types of experiments which are really helpful for us to understand what the professors are teaching in our class. By doing the experiments we ourselves can learn how they are working . Although we have labs bid equipment can not be placed there. So we can not learn about bigger machines used in industries. So it is better to take us to Industrial visit. So we can learn new things from there. How a industry can run and the sector that present in them and how the engines are prepared. For one year we have 2 semesters.For each semester we have a Mid , End exam

An excellent college for engineering

Hostel facilities and mess food , college placement

Placement Experience:

From 6 th semester students are are eligible for pre placement offers and also paid internship is there at CERN,Geneva Good offers are made by companies during 7th and 8th semester. Percentage placement is around 75 percent Companies are namely Honda motors,hero motocorp,maruti,tata motors etc Plans are to work in the tech sector.

The placements at our campus is really good because almost every student will be placed by the end of the Bachelors.
With the skills in sports you can participate in inter hall and inter NIT and we can get certificates

Dislikes

Food provided in the canteen was not good

Placement Experience:

Students will be sitting for the placements right from their 5th semester. 3rd year students will get internship based on their scores and skills in their individual departments. More than 150 companies visit our campus every year and 700+ placements will be offered. Companies like Amazon hire more than 20 students every year with a package of 53 lakhs . I think the highest package is 80 lakhs in our campus only one person got this opportunity. Average package is about 9 lakhs in 2023. 87% students got placed in 2023. I am currently doing job after my BTech.

Here is a detailed review shared by my brother who completed his graduation from NIT Durgapur

Infrastructure: Honestly, the infrastructure isn’t all that great but will provide all the basic amenities necessary for a good academic environment.
Faculty: Most students have to resort to self-study because the professors are not very passionate about teaching. However, if you do good projects under a professor, you may be able to pursue a master's in a foreign university.
Placements: NIT Durgapur has recorded excellent placements. This year the highest CTC offered was INR 70 LPA while the average salary offered was INR 13.64 LPA. The top recruiters included TCS Ninja, PwC, ICICI Bank, Microsoft, and many others. More than 100 recruiters participated in the placement drive and 633 students were placed.
Opportunities: The NIT tag will open a number of opportunities for you and the alumni network is also quite extensive. You can also avail opportunities like workshops and clubs.
Campus life: The campus life is very active with many fun-filled events like the freshers' farewell party and celebration of regional festivals. Additionally, a number of cultural and technical fests are also held.
Administration : The administration is very slow and is not cooperative. You might face some issues.
Location : NIT Durgapur faces no major connectivity issues. The railway station is 30 mins or 14 km away while the nearest airport is at Andal, which isn't well connected, so Kolkata Airport will be a better option. You can find the Auto rickshaw stand just at the main gate.
