NIT Durgapur Departments and Schools

I completed my B.Tech ECE from NIT Durgapur a few years back. Thus, I can tell you about the ECE department of my college- 

The placements for ECE are quite poor. Barely any core companies visit the campus for recruitments. As a result, ECE students try for IT companies during the placement season. The curriculum is also not up to the mark. It needs to be updated and aligned with present day needs of the semiconductor industry. Scoring good CGPAs is easy but one has to stay updated on the industry standards on our own.

IIIT Allahabad has a research oriented environment, and its attendance policy is quite lenient. It offers good placements in the IT department. Try to approach some seniors from IIITA to find out the condition of its ECE branch.

If the B.Tech ECE at IIIT Allahabad is as good as its B.Tech IT, consider joining this college over NIT Durgapur. 

NIT Calicut is the better possibility because of its efficient academics, infrastructure, and placement backing. Let us have a brief look at both institutes.

EEE at NIT Calicut

• Electrical Engineering is one of the most demanding courses, which opens up an eccentric career, especially for the zealous and hardworking ones
• Broad avenues for an electrical undergraduate include competitive exams like GATE, ESE, Defense Engineering Services, etc.
• NITC has an exuberant competitive culture as it follows the prospectus and pattern of IIT Madras. This ensures a healthier learning environment for the students.

ECE at NIT Durgapur

• Most of the students got settled as coders in the IT sector without any specialized knowledge about coding.
• NIT DGP ensures good infrastructure, academics, and placement for the students, just like other NITs

In defiance of this, the top students opt for EEE at NITs over ECE. So, you can go with the choice of EEE at NIT for an upright career

My cousin is a student at NIT Delhi currently and claims it to be the best NIT in North India. It provides an excellent platform for research-oriented study and top-notch academics.

The first-year students of all branches are taught the same subjects. From the 3rd year, students have labs for every theory subject. There are approximately 60–70 hour classes of core subjects and 30 hours lab in the same subject. Students are also required to make projects for every lab for which they are even graded. There are around 7-8 subjects in every semester comprising 5 core subjects and remaining computer science, humanities, and applied science subjects. The curriculum is therefore very rigorous and you will have to work extra hard for this branch. 

The branch records great placements every year and students are also offered internships from good companies. An added advantage of studying at NIT Delhi is the close proximity to coaching centers in Delhi.

However, NIT Delhi lacks in terms of cultural activities so if you want to experience a dynamic and fun-filled campus life, you might want to reconsider your decision.

I would like you to consider certain important things before making your decision-

• College- Without a doubt, NIT Warangal is ahead of NIT Durgapur in terms of faculty, infrastructure and hostel facilities.

• Subject - You need to choose your subject based on your interests. Without that you’ll either hate your profession or choose a completely different career path altogether. If you are into math, coding, logic and problem-solving, choose CSE. On the other hand, if you want to study materials, metals, extraction, etc, choose Metallurgy. 
• Profession - CSE will give you better opportunities in the IT sector. You might get a fat check, work for a good company, and live in metropolitans. As you know, IT jobs are basically office jobs.On the other hand, core Metallurgy jobs deal with steel plants, mines and such. You’ll end up working in a remote area if you choose a core job.The placements for CSE are overall much better than Metallurgy, across all engineering colleges. But if you have a passion for metallurgy, you might end up in a good brand or get selected for a government position. 
• Location- Both the places are culturally very different. Research a bit, and figure out which place’s food habits, climate, and culture suits you better.

According to me your college will last for 4 years. However, your branch will become an intrinsic part of your personality and profession. Unless you have an interest in Metallurgy or a good chance at sliding to another branch, choose CSE at NIT Durgapur.
