Likes
- All the big brands and big tech giants come to the campus for great opportunity opportunity for students you can apply for placements from the fifth semester itself.
- College provides a lot of scholarships like merit cum means scholarship, inspire scholarship, and fee waiver scheme.
- The faculty members are really good as they are great researchers in their respective fields.
Dislikes
- But, if we talk about scholarship then it's a bad news that there is no institute scholarship for unreserved students but u can get it for other organisations like nsp.
- The hostel rooms are also not good enough and lack cleanliness sometimes and have broken chairs/ tables, etc. at times.
- The academic workload can be sometimes demanding, not always but sometimes, leading to stress and pressure among students.

Likes
- IIT KGP focuses on holistic development of students, which is ensured by availability of great varieties of extra curricular activity clubs, such as dramatics, sports, art, music, etc.
- The campus is extremely safe and secure, with no danger to women. The sex ratio of male:female is 4:1.
- The professors are highly qualified and deliver commendable lectures. The best of the best minds from the country find a good environment to nourish their knowledge and learn how to apply their knowledge to solve real life problems.
Dislikes
- The curriculum is old and needs to be modified. Although several changes have already been introduced, still a lot more changes need to be inculcated for meeting industry requirements.
- The campus is situated almost 200km from Kolkata, which is its nearest metropolitan city. So often travelling around the campus gets difficult
- The connectivity is not upto the mark, sometimes. Wifi in the campus is slow.
Placement Experience:
Placements in IIT KGP are one of the best in the country. Average package is around 25 lakhs of this college, highest being 2.4 crores in 2024 batch. Some of the companies visiting are:- Google, Flipkart, Sprinkler, Oracle, JP Morgan, BCG,etc. Some of the portfolios are that of SDE, Finance, Data Scientist, Data analyst, Consulting, etc. Percentage of placed students was about 90% in cse and 70% overall.

- The vastness and greenery of the campus.
- The environment there is nice and peaceful.
- College has many mesmerizing things inside the campus.
Dislikes
- The college is too much far away from my hometown.
- We don't have any nearby places to visit around the campus.
- Sometimes the mess food and canteen food is not good.
Placement Experience:
From the seventh semester, students become eligible for campus placements.
Many companies visited and offered a decent amount of package like google, amazon, microsoft etc.
The last year's average package in my branch was of 25 lpa.
Most of the students got placed in the placement drive and some students gets placed off campus too.
My plan is to also get a decent paying job after degree.

- The smart community is what impresses me the most. Male female interaction is pretty good. Also students are generous and helpful to each other, amd sp is the staff. Also senior junior interaction is friendly.
Dislikes
- The thing I dislike is that sometimes their can be frustrating moments like water isn't coming, the student committee head won't listen, you'll be late by 2 minutes and you'll be punished, or even that you'll have to wait in long lines.
Course Curriculum Overview:
The course is very relevant to the latest industry's demands. We have ML courses as well, and we have a lot of extra curricular activities that keep us up to date. While the course prepares us for corexwe have plenty of non core opportunities.

- The college culture here is out of the world, every thing here is attached to some interesting lore. Be it the hall GC, different clubs &sports , places or department. You feel a sense of strong community in each thing. Overall people connect well.
- Innumerable count of sports facilities available here. Any random sport you wanna play, you'll find it here surely. The college strongly focuses in the all round exhaustive development of a individual. Everyone here is associated with a sport.
- Quiet and serene enviornment here. Being away from a hustle bustle of a city, you can cycle your way on a sunday afternoon quite peacefully in the lush green campus with fresh air.
Dislikes
- Hostel accommodation: It's the same problem in all old iits, though IIT KGP provides the best accommodation in top 5 atleast, It's still isn't premier institution of a nation type. You'll be disappointed if you compare it other countries top Uni.
- Cheating the system. Many people here make fake certificates of obc-ncl pwd or even st/sc and there isn't a rigourous on that so it just kills the peer group, for which iits are famous for.
Placement Experience:
Students become eligible for placements from the 7th semester for the 4 year program.
100+ companies visit and make 1600+ offers.
Visiting companies include FAANG , hft/firms and core engineering companies like Texas instruments/Nvidia.
Highest package was of 1.68cr and avg package ranged from 15-20 lakh
80%+ were placed in UG program
I haven't decided particularly if I should do masters or prepare for job or go for other venture as the college provides good enough safety net for each thing

My course is instrumentation engineering, which is considered as circuital branch
Curriculum is very much relevant and prof do teach very well here

- The KGP campus is really big and beautiful.
- The night life in the campus is very good
- Professors are very knowledgeable and renowned with excellent research
Dislikes
- Hostels rooms are relatively small for single and double sharing
- The mess food is not upto the mark in most hostels
- Wild animals like snakes are a common sighting
Course Curriculum Overview:
I chose Instrumentation engineering keeping in mind the current state of semiconductor industry in India.I would say that the curriculum is a little backdated compared to what professionals are looking for today.To improve it,they need to include relevant elective subjects as subject choices before every semester.The frequency of exams is determined by the professor.Generally, there are two class tests and one midsemester and endsemester exams in each semester.

- The culture here was the best part. Very friendly environment.
- The societies here have a lot to offer for a persons development.
- The curriculum is designed to make it very student friendly and make inter disciplinary courses very much easy to access.
Placement Experience:
The students in semester 7 for 4-year course and for 5-year dual degree 9th semester are eligible for campus placements. There were 1600 offers made in the first phase of campus placements with 90% students being placed.

- Lush green campus the campus is surrounded by nature
- People , people are friendly ready to help and very ambitious
- Faculty , engaging and knowledgeable and helps you other than acads too
Dislikes
- Mess food , it's not the best this campus has to offer
- Appliances , the hostel appliances are often broken or doesn't work
- Fear of missing out , with people who are achieving so much you are often made to think you are left behind when in reality you are not
Placement Experience:
The students become eligible after the first semester of final year and the placements here are the best in the country with multiple 1cr+ offers and international offers , the average salary is between 17 -21 lpa and varies according to department

- Great campus life, greenery all around no pollution.
- So many cells, clubs and activities all year round. u get to be with the smartest brains of the nation.
- Great classroms, labs and sports facilities. great for cycling everyday.
Dislikes
- Skewed gender ratio almost boys:girls in a section is 17:1
- Bad mess for first years, not nutritious enough meals
Placement Experience:
Students become eligible for placements onwards 3rd year they get to internships which are compulsory. THen in their (2n-1) semester they go through CDC which is official name for the placements in iit kgp. HIghest package is 4cr and lowest is 12 lpa so theres too much range also in recent years due to recession the placement scenario is a bit bleak.

- My overall experience at IIT Kharagpur is great. The campus life is happening and makes up for the remote campus location. The societies are pretty active too.
- Campus area is too big ,I should say Campus is Huge with an area of 2100 acres.It is fun to explore the roads and cycle along then in night.

- The huge area of Campus requires us to cycle 3km everyday in the morning to reach class.

Placements at IIT Kharagpur are one of the best one can find in the country. The average package of all the departments lies at around 22 LPA. The placement percentage is around 75 percent, which is reasonably good.
