Admission to the M.Tech ECS program requires an interview, while PhD candidates must pass a written test on programming, data structures, and discrete mathematics. The GATE exam, pivotal for admissions, was conducted by IIT Madras in 2018 and by IIT Guwahati this year, with about 200,000 participants for the computer science branch.
