Which is better, mining in IIT Kharagpur or mechanical in IIT Patna?

First of all you need to lose this ideology that mechanical has more scope and mining has less scope. Every field has top notch research going in it and provides dynamic and challenging work opportunities. I also had the same dilemma and I chose Mining at IIT Kharagpur over other departments for to following reasons:- IIT Kharagpur is famous for its Mining branch which is one of the core branches in b.tech. IIT Kharagpur is ranked 6th in the NIRFranking while IIT Patna is Ranked 41th. IIT Kharagpur has a Median Salary of 16 LPA while IIT Patna is at 12 LPA. IIT Kharagpur is one of the oldest institutes in India established in 1951. Coal India also comes for recruitment at IIT Kharagpur and international companies like Rio Tinto come for recruitment process.

All tuition fees are waivered but other fees have to be paid. Max 25% of admitted students in the institute can avail this scholarship.A student can only take one scholarship at a time regardless of the source. IIT KGP is a Talisman!!

Student Snaps:

IIT KGP is the onlh college that has these many branches. Jharkhand anr Orissa are mining states of India and therefore strategically too IIT Kgp becomes an out and out choice. The feed is 3.5 lakhs a year and even the lower caste students gets just 20% scholarships. Merit and sports based scholarships are also there and that again is something which is something not meant for average students like me.

All about IIT KHARAGPUR

In one year we have two semester. So, for every semester, Tution fees is one lakh (100000) and you will avail scholarship for tution fees - (1) if your parents annual income is 1 lakh to 5 lakh then you have to pay only 33333 for tution fees and (2) if your parents annual income is below 1 lakh then you can study for free i.e. your tution fees is zero. Here admission fees is around 6000 and labs fees is not there. Here, fees Structure for ST category - If you apply your caste certificate then your tution fees is zero and you can study free of cost.

Generally, the tuition fee is about 100k per semester and if we include hostel and mess fees then it will go upto 150 k per semester. Everyone can not pay the full amount if one's family annual income is less than 100k then they have to pay only hostel and mess few i.e 50k per semester and if it is between 100k and 500k then they have to pay 1/3rd of the total fee and if it is above 500k then they have to pay the whole of the fee.

My First year In IIT Kgp

For 4 years BTech general category you have to pay around 1200000 which includes your academic fees hostel and mess fees.If you are from obc ncl or ews then you can apply for academic fee waivers.There are many scholarship from 2 nd year.

We have one time fees for mess and hostel which is around 50,000 and the acadmic fees that is semester fees is around 1,50,000. There are scholarships which can be availed by students who are eligible for reservations.

If your family income is above 5 lakhs per year,then you have to pay approximately 3 lakhs per year,if your family income is below 1 lakh per year,then you have to pay approximately 1 lakh per year as you will have to pay amount excluding tution fees which is 2 lakhs per year. If your family income is between 1-5 lakhs per year,then you have to pay only 1/3rd of tution fees and the rest amount which add upto 175000 approximately also if your CGPA will be greater than 7.5 at the end of first year,then you can avail MCM Scholarship provided by IIT Kharagpur due to which you will get 100 percent tution fee waiver and 1000 rupees per month upto the complition of course.

Fees in iits are obviously very less than rpivate colleges because it is a government institute. Tution fees is 2 lakhs per year and hostel fees is 1.1 lakhs per year for general and obc students.For sc st students there is fee waiver of 2/3 of the total fees. If your income is less than 5 lpa then you have to pay 1/3 of the tution fees. If your income is less than 1 lpa than you do not have to pay tution fees. There are many scholarships availabe.Most of them a income criteria. Your family income should be less than 5 lpa. Also you can get paid internships after 2 year from the college.
