What is better, metallurgical in the old IIT (Kharagpur/Roorkee) or electrical in the new IIT (Ganghinagar/Mandi)??

I was in the same position as you last year. I too had the same options for my Bachelor and I chose IIT Roorkee due to the following reasons:- Some of the older IITs like Roorkee boast a longer legacy and are highly esteemed for imparting quality engineering education. Opting for Metallurgical Engineering at one of these older IITs, if your interest lies in materials science or the manufacturing industry Metallurgical Engineering can open up distinctive career pathways in areas like metallurgy, mining, manufacturing, and even research. IIT Roorkee/Kharagpur is ranked 5th/6th in the NIRFranking while IIT Gandhinagar/Mandi is Ranked 18th/33rd. IIT Roorkee Metallurgical branch has an Average Package of 21 LPA with IIT Gandhinagar/Mandi EE branch at 24 LPA. Old IITs have better infrastructure and college life as compared to new IITs.

What is the scope of metallurgical and materials engineering at IIT Roorkee?

The scope of Metallurgical and Materials engineering or that of any engineering depends largely on where your inclinations lie and how much you are willing to work for it. There are several rare cases wherein a student of Biotechnology, the least preferred branch of engineering, is offered to a good company with a very high package. IIT Roorkee and in fact, most IITs have low core opportunities but many non-core opportunities. That being said, it’s advisable for an IITian to learn to code for future security. IIT Roorkee offers the perfect culture to learn to code. It’s a well-known fact that Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, was also a BTech in metallurgy from IIT KGP. So I would like to conclude by saying that even if there are no opportunities at your door, create one!

Dislikes

Some courses are very old and they keep teaching it by conventional methods.

There is no hike since I took admission in tuition fee. Total fee for four years costs around 12 lakhs. There are many scholarships based on family income, caste etc. Someone can easily apply for it and can avail it. On campus placement and internship are not very easy. We have to keep applying for off campus too. If you have good skills you can get off campus offers.

IIT - The life you want, The life you need.

Fees in IITs are around 2.8Lakhs per year for candidates whose family annual income is more than 5 Lakhs. If your family income is between 1 to 5 Lakhs then you get 2-3rd off on your tution fee which is aroud 2 Lakhs annual or 1Lakh per semester. Also if family annual income is less than 1Lakhs then you get complete tution fee waiver. Also SC ST students get complete tution fee waiver. On some cases you get waiver on mess fees too. There are other scholarships available too if you score decent.

no policy for fee increase but have chance for reduce fee by showing father income my tuition fee for 1 sem is 100000 with reservation, scholorships are mcm, JT, etc. we can intern in college and work in clubs for experience

Overall Life at IIT Roorkee

The fee structure for each semester is 1 lakh for tution fees hostel fee is 5000 mess fee is 20000 while other feels summing upto 150000 per semester. yes there are alot of scholarships like mcm for low income families. Yes, there are campus opportunities but in the inintial years this won't be much for you

Fee structure varies according to the reservation For gen it is 1200000 for the whole course of 4 year and then it comes down to 3 lakhs for SC/ST . You can also avail many scholarships under the scheme of women empowerment and James Thomason that ranges in about 25000 to 1 lakhs . The employment is also good but since recession is going so it's not quite good

The tuition fees for us is reasonable and our institute checks all the conditions to increase or decrease the fees. More over there are many other ways to pay our fees like we get scholarships from various companies from both govt and private institutions. Namely NSP , reliance and many more provide us scholarships based on merit and the reservation people get these .

Review of IIT Roorkee

The first thing which i didn't like here is the academic pressure. Since in IIT all students are the topper of their college or school so there is a very tough competition which builds an unnecessary pressure on the student.

Basically, as far as i know for availing the scholarships or financial assistance the students of the college are divided into three sub groups: 1.Students whose parental income is less than 1lakh:They can have 100% fee wavier. 2.Students whose parental income is between 1lakh and 6lakh:They can have 66% fee wavier. 3.Students whose parental income is above 6lakh:No scholarship is awarded to them. But for availing the above scholarships proper documents should be submitted to the office and after cross-verification only they grant you the scholarships.

after you apply for medical in any exam you cant get more than 8 pointer in that course irrespective of how much you perform well.

1.3 lakhs is semester fees in iit roorkee for general canditate moreover if you are of reserved category u get additional fee cut in iit . and for st/sc it goes down to 36000 as admission fees . All amount been given comprises tuition,services,hostel fees etc for more info regarding scholarship please go to official website of iit roorkee. to get paid interns u can approach professors and can do any research project under them to get good stipend and knowledge .
