Is IIM Udaipur good for MBA?

IIM Udaipur is one of the best among the new IIMs in various aspects like campus, placements and faculty. IIM Udaipur was recently ranked 18th by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2021. Such rankings are enough a testament to its value. IIM Udaipur has a 300 acre campus surrounded by Aravali Hills. The campus has world class facilities and a plethora of opportunities. Are New IIMs (Trichy, Udaipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Raipur, Kashipur) good for MBA in Finance? If not suggest some B-schools. Really interested in investment banking.

Honestly speaking, a career in investment banking should not be considered by the new IIMs. It’s a too ambitious profile to match the relatively new curriculum of these IIMs. Even if you are in a top B School, you will have to remain among the top students to get placed for a front-end role. One can still get roles in corporate & business finance but getting roles in Investment Banking is rather difficult. Yet if you are not choosing an older IIM and want to choose a newer one, IIM Trichy is the best among them. The order is IIM Trichy > IIM Udaipur > IIM Ranchi There are many B Schools apart from IIMs that offer great Investment Banking roles. These include SPJIMR, JBIMS Mumbai, IIFT, and XLRI.

Which one should I choose between IIT Madras DoMS and IIM Udaipur for an MBA?

My choice will forever be IIM Udaipur solely because of the IIM tag. I know people will criticize me for this mindset but one cannot ignore the IIM brand name. Moreover IIT is a top technical institute but it’s a fact that its Management Department is not at par with the top B Schools. IIM Udaipur curriculum is way more rigorous and structured than that of IIT Madras. The 2-year flagship courses offered by IIMs just does not groom you academically but mentally also. It makes you ready to step into the real corporate world. The curriculum at IIMs are very demanding and require a lot of determination, hard work and sacrifices on the part of students. This disciplines them and also grooms their personality. The quality of peer learning is excellent at IIMs as you interact with masterminds from various backgrounds and fields. Overall I feel curriculum-wise IIM has more to offer than an IIT simple because of the fact that it specializes in the field.

Should I pursue my MBA in Canada from a mediocre university (like McMaster or UBC), or should I get into a new IIM (Shillong, Udaipur, etc.) in India if I ultimately want to settle down in Canada?

If you have already decided to settle abroad, investing your time and money in the new IIMs is useless. You should start looking for the top B Schools in your preferred country. Moreover, the IIMs, even the older ones, have a non-existent international scope. So why invest so much money in something that will not improve your chances of settling abroad? To make it easier I have listed a few Canadian Business Schools that are the most preferred ones. University of Toronto University of Western Ontario York University University of British Columbia McMaster University It’s amazing that you have been shortlisted for 2 of these amazing universities. I suggest you go for them instead of IIMs.

Is joining new IIMs (Ranchi, Trichy, Udaipur) worth it? How will be the career growth after an MBA from new ones?

The career growth offered by the new IIMs is difficult to analyze as they haven’t been established for long. One cannot infer their worth easily as its alumni are yet to establish themselves in the corporate world. It will take a few more years to determine the growth of CEO alums career-wise. If you are concerned about the general job prospects, try going through the placement reports of these IIMs. You will get a general idea of the packages and roles offered. To know if the new IIMs are worth going for, you need to check what you are expecting from these B Schools. If you are looking for basic learning and a small push to kickstart your career, the new IIMs will benefit you. But if you are on the lookout for high ROI, the new IIMs may or may not satisfy your expectations.

Which is better, bootcamp or an MBA from new IIM (Udaipur, Trichy) to switch to data analytics? I have a 3 years work experience as a QA engineer.?

I will give you an insight into both the options you mentioned, i.eMBA from IIM or Bootcamp. Bootcamp: If you are very passionate about Data Analytics then Bootcamp is the best option for you. I deem this course better than an MBA from B School as a B School covers various arenas of Management while Bootcamp solely focuses on what you are looking for. Moreover, you will end up paying hefty fees and will have to pay loans for years. It provided a detailed approach to Data Analytics and you don’t have to study irrelevant topics B School: B schools like the new IIMs are good for people who are not certain of their career interests. In that case, B-school would teach you much more than Data Analytics, and then you can pursue the field you excel in or are most passionate about. The excellent pedagogy of IIMs enables you to inculcate skills like handling a project, building a workforce, execution, etc. Basically, you are groomed on an overall basis and get industry exposure as well. I have seen many people pursuing MBA and also online courses that offer Certification in Data Analytics specifically. So that is also a viable option for you.

IIM Udaipur - A great but incomplete place for a full time MBA

Academics though challenging gives you an opportunity to learn a lot.

Tution fee at my time from 2018-20 was 2 lakh per trimester which comes to 12 lacs for the course. Apart from this there is an additional hostel and mess charges which comes around 25000-30000 per trimester. Now the total fee has gone up around 20 lacs for the MBA program. There is a scholarship program for students belonging to poor families with a max allowed familiy income. There is a placement department and a team which conduts the placements during 5th and 6th trimester and the current average CTC offered is around 20 lacs.

Academics is also good here. Even though people don't focus on it but the curriculum is good.

Case competition culture is not at all present. No body cares about case comms and it is a big concern for an MBA college
Quality of students is sub-par. The students are not great at all. People here mostly care about other things then studies and placements

Total fees for the course is around 22 Lakh and you will also spend around 1.5-2 Lakh in the course duration atleast.You might think that it wont be the case but trust me, when it comes to MBA there are a lot of parties and other expenses even though you have paid for everything beforehand. There are scholarships floated after getting into this college but they are mostly for reserved category people. If you are from general then forget about the scholarship.

My current experience at IIMU

The total college fee is rupees twenty two lakhs for a two year mba in IIM udaipur. There are some scholoarship opportunities for deserving candidiates. There is no in-campus jobs for any student in any of the IIM Bschools in India as per my Knowledge

Currently, the fee is 22 lacs. It is increasing every year, as many other IIMs are doing. There are various scholarship opportunities for meritorious students, who top their classes and overall as well. There is provision for financial assistance also for people who needs them. The institute checks the eligibility and provides it accordingly. As with most IIMs, the campus placement is quite good here. It has been achieving 100% placement records year after year.

Overall Experience in IIM Udaipur

Fees are slightly at the higher end as compared to that of the New IIMs, but taking an educational loan is very easy with floating interest rates. Many banks also have their desks on campus during the Induction and Registration process. Scholarship and Finacial Assistance can be availed by providing relevant proofs and the process is quite smooth.

My MBA journey

Nowadays every premier B-school is increasing its fee year after year. They say the fee hike is in correlation to the average CTC of the previous year. Which is good for the college, but these hikes I dont feel are justified always.

The fee structure is approximately 20.5 lac for the whole course. Financial assistance is available for students who met the minimum income criteria. The fees can be paid with the help of loans also which are readily given by banks

IIMU review

The fees of IIMU are about 22 lakhs INR which cover all the expenses like hostel fees, tuition, material, library, etc. students can apply for merit-based scholarships and need-based scholarships which can cover up to 100% of fees. for financial assistance colleges have tie-ups with several banks which can provide collateral-free loans for their education. IIMU has a career development service team which assists in campus placements.
