Pros of choosing IGNOU are Central University (the only one in Delhi), Proximity to my residence, competitive admission, availing of JRF, smooth admission process, Entrance exam in April 2019, Interview in June 2019, getting a PhD supervisor who is keen to build up my research as well. The PhD coursework was one of a kind as well with dissemination of good research centred knowledge. Cons would be a very government-like setup.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I was having an interest in computers and their languages the main reason I chose this course. The Faculty-Student ratio is 1:50. The qualification of the faculty is at par. Almost 80% is from IGNOU alumni itself or some are from DU and other colleges. BCA has a semester-wise exam pattern and to pass them is not that easy. One has to study hard to get at least 60% marks.

During the third semester, the training starts. In this, students are supposed to go to a 5-star hotel for their industrial training. Usually, there is some stipend offered along with other facilities. After 3 years, when the course is completed, you have plenty of options to choose from. From Mcdonald's and Starbucks to Oberoi and Marriott, it's all open to you. Going for a master's degree after this is not required as this is sufficient.

Does IGNOU have any importance? Is IGNOU good?

Pratima Khatri
Shikha SehrawatStudied at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

It is advised that you do not consider whether the IGNOU certificate is valuable in terms of getting a job. However, the acquired knowledge and skills will be precious to you. Time management, submitting assignments on time, and sitting for exams at the end are all essential requirements.

The institute's name serves only as an icebreaker at first; once hired, there is no turning back. Put that knowledge to use at work.

Most importantly, it is a GOVERNMENT OF INDIA recognized certificate that is accepted almost everywhere in the world.

So, if you want to work while studying or can't afford a regular course, IGNOU is far superior to good.

Is the IGNOU a good option for distance learning?

Aditi BhardwajB.A from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

Below mentioned are some of the positive aspects of IGNOU:

  • When compared to other private universities such as Symbiosis Distance Learning, you pay nearly one-tenth the price to complete your degree or PG (except for an MBA, which is half the price).

  • It's the government. University is recognized worldwide until the criteria state that only full-time courses are permitted.

  • You get standard books that will not only impart good knowledge but will also help you clear competitive exams in simple and easy language, and they are available in both Hindi and English.

  • Transfers are available in almost all states if you need to relocate during your academic career.

  • There are several other benefits to joining this university and simply completing your tasks on time, such as assignments that are given only once a year and you have almost 6 months to complete them, and the answers are easy to find in your course books.

Is an MBA from IGNOU a valued one or not?

Pooja AgrawalMBA from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

Even an IIM degree may be worthless if you do not learn anything while pursuing it.

Because you have not specified the nature of your use for an MBA degree, it is assumed that you are a working professional interested in gaining theoretical knowledge of management through an MBA from IGNOU.

When we compare IGNOU to other distance learning universities such as SMU and Symbiosis, we can see that IGNOU stands out due to the well-structured course material and the importance of assignments. The faculty who are mentoring SOMS IGNOU (School of Management Studies) is top-tier professors from IIMs and IIFT, as well as senior government officials.

However, expecting an MBA to be equivalent to a regular MBA degree to get a job is unrealistic. Most MBA programs in India are extremely rigorous and intensive. This is because a future manager is expected to perform under pressure, and a management student is subjected to that pressure from day one of his MBA program. As a result of regular case study discussions and extensive knowledge sharing in peer groups, a regular MBA is considered to be far more valuable than a distance MBA. However, a regular MBA requires a significant time and financial investment.

So, if you are already in a well-established job and want to advance to a management position or simply learn more about the theoretical aspects of management, an MBA from IGNOU will undoubtedly help you serve the purpose with minimal investment of both time and money.

What is your review of Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU?

Prateeksha GargStudied at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

In IGNOU, none of the faculty members at your regional center or study center will assist you in answering your questions. You must assume everything on your own and act accordingly. If you have any questions about your assignment submission or lab courses, your study center will simply tell you to contact the regional center. And in the regional center, no one will answer the phone, and no one will respond to your emails. If you accidentally sent your document or something to the wrong center, they will notify you after the form submission deadline and tell you that there is nothing you can do and that you must submit the form again in the upcoming semester. Rude teachers will respond to your inquiries. You may feel as if you are studying without paying fees, and the teachers are unconcerned about your problems. They are simply teachers by designation; they have no idea what to do or how to assist students with assignments/labs, etc.

Students are pursuing distance education because they are unable to attend college daily due to their jobs. However, they expect them to travel to a regional center that is not in the same city every month to have our basic questions answered. In terms of projects, they may say in viva that the report should look like this. When you submit the report as instructed the next time, another superintendent will be present to reject it and instruct you to format it as before.

How good is IGNOU?

Harshita PoonaStudied at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

To be honest, IGNOU is an undesirable university in India. Don't believe those who claim that "it's the best open university" and other such nonsense. They don't give a damn about you, your future, or your time. When you go to the regional center, they tell you to go to the IGNOU headquarters. And the office of concern in the headquarter of Ignou will tell you to go to the post office, and the post office will tell you to bring the dispatch number from the headquarters of IGNOU, and they will tell you that the regional center will provide the dispatch number of the book but it would not get into your hands even at the end.

IGNOU is the worst open university; they value the number of students over the quality of education. They do nothing to help students, and IGNOU is just a big scam run by undeserving people and goons. It is strongly advised to avoid IGNOU. AMU and Jamia are far superior for open studies.

It is guaranteed that the study material provided by IGNOU is excellent. You'll have a great time going through them. It will undoubtedly provide you with a thorough understanding of the subject. However, it is not without difficulty. You get to work hard. If you want to study Economics via distance education, IGNOU is your best bet.

However, pursuing it at a regular university in a face-to-face mode may be preferable because teachers can assist you with your difficulties. However, if you are already employed, MA in Economics from IGNOU is an excellent choice.

How is the English MA course in IGNOU University?

Neha Rani
Padmini AlinaMasters in English in English (language), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

It is extremely convenient to pursue an M.A. in English through IGNOU. The only problem is that the course materials are delivered very late. However, you are not required to rely on or wait for the materials. Because the materials remain the same year after year, they can be obtained from anyone who has already completed the course or from used bookstores. To be honest, the material isn't much help. In fact, guidebooks are more beneficial because they also provide you with the previous year's question papers, which are extremely helpful in understanding the exam question pattern, and once understood, you are guaranteed to score above 55% on your first attempt.

You have five years to complete your course, which consists of eight credits, four in the first year and four in the second. It is mandatory to submit the assignment for the paper you wish to sit for during the exams, which are held twice a year. It is entirely up to you whether to take all exams at once or spread them out over all ten semesters. In short, if you are determined, you can complete your master's degree in two years by taking two papers each semester. Contact classes are scheduled; if possible, attend them as they will get you started on your preparation and keep you motivated.

Doing some research for your assignment and attempting to keep your answer original rather than copying from the guide will increase your chances of getting good grades on the assignments. If you fail a paper in the semester exam, you have the option of retaking it in subsequent semesters until you achieve a passing mark.

So, get the reference books, analyze the question pattern, turn in your assignment, and begin studying for the exam.

How tough is MA in economics IGNOU?

Simranjit Kaur
Jyothsna GroverM.A. in Economics, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

It is advised to look for a regular university for a Master in Economics, such as DSE or JNU.

If you don't have any other options, take admission here. There is nothing difficult for economics students to achieve good grades in MA Economics.

The exams are mostly graduation-based, but you must be certain that you understand everything you were taught during your graduation. You must not overlook any important terms, theories, concepts, or anything else.

If you are taking the MA economics exam for the first time at IGNOU, read everything you learned in graduation as well as the materials provided by IGNOU.

Is doing B.Com from IGNOU a good idea?

Sidhharth JainMS from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

It's not a bad idea if you are thoughtful enough to do this course without being admitted to a regular university.

If you rely entirely on the staff and have blind faith that they will assist you with all of your questions, you may have difficulty sorting it all out on your own. It's a university where you have to apply and do everything on your own. This is what distinguishes and challenges IGNOU.

If you decide to apply for B.Com at IGNOU, read the prospectus carefully and keep it with you. The prospectus will provide you with all of the information you require.
