Ignou: Flexibility And Disappointment

Placement Experience:

Placements in IGNOU are quite limited compared to regular universities. Since IGNOU is an open and distance learning university, it does not have a strong campus placement system like DU or private colleges. There is a Campus Placement Cell (CPC) that conducts job fairs and recruitment drives at some regional centers, but these are not very frequent and mostly depend on the location. Usually, students who are in their final year or have completed the course can apply, but there is no fixed semester rule since the system is flexible. The companies that visit are not very large in number and vary every year. Some private firms, NGOs, BPOs, insurance companies, and small IT firms have participated in the past. The roles are generally entry-level such as sales, customer support, data entry, insurance advisor, or junior IT support. There are very limited opportunities for core mathematics or research roles through placements. As far as packages are concerned, the average package is usually around ?2.5 LPA to ?4 LPA, but since IGNOU is an open university, it cannot be expected to have the same placement levels as regular colleges with full-time classes. Also, the percentage of students placed is very small because most IGNOU students are either working professionals, homemakers, or people preparing for competitive exams, so placements are not the main focus. Many students use the degree as a qualification while pursuing their own career path outside. I am currently in my 2nd year, so I do not have personal placement experience yet. The data I have mentioned here is based on internet sources and feedback from other IGNOU students. From what I have learned, placements exist but are very limited, and one should not rely only on them for career building.

Placement Experience:

In our colleges the placement is above average As our course is BCA We still have a better placement than many B Tech colleges. The companies that visited our college was Infosys Wipro Tcs hcl Physics wallah Byju. The highest package was 23,00,000 and the lowest was 2,00,000 and the average is 3,00,000 of our college. If you are good enough in your skill you will definitely get a good package. The number of students who get placed was 300. Student become eligible from the four semester for the Placement.

Placement Experience:

The Placements at our college is quite impressive. The college has a dedicated placement cell that works tirelessly to ensure that each and every student should get their job. last year, our college achieved a placement percentage of over 95% , with many students, securing jobs in top Hotels and retails. The highest package that has been offered till now as 3,20,000 per annum and the average package is 2,60,000 per annum. After getting my degree, I will surely go to the Hotels and will showcase my skills and knowledges which will help me to grow as well as improve my abilities and skills.

Placement start from 5th semister with hotels like, Taj, Oberoi, Marriots etc. visiting campus. The highest package was offered that time back in 2015 was Rs. 400,000/- and the average package was around Rs. 250,000/-. After graduation started working in a restaurant chain in Mumbai. Was selected in a campus placement in Saudi Arabia, but due to some political interferences at 2015, had to drop the idea. After some years, I transitioned my career to Data Science in 2024.

IGNOU is one of the reputed universities of India that provides all kinds of courses ranging from distance to online and offline. Hence, the question rests on what is actually the placement scenario of the university.

The prominent details regarding placements to be focused on are as follows.

Campus Placement Cell (CPC):

University has a campus placement center that acts as an epicenter for the entire process of employment-related activities.

It ensures that the right candidate is made available with respect to a particular job description.
It also provides support to companies in all possible forms like logistically and infrastructural resources.
The prime-most method in which CPC helps is by organizing Job fairs, Campus drives, and recruitment drives.
It is also planning to launch a training & placement portal on the Samarth platform. It will make the process of placements more channelized and updated.

Job Opportunities:

As compared to the number of individuals that graduate from IGNOU, the placement percentage is quite less and not impressive.
Very few students have got the opportunity for campus placements.
The general view of many pass out students is similar in this case that placement options are almost negligible.
There are certain courses where students have bagged good packages like B.A. (arts).
