Remarks
Admission of State Government Colleges in West Bengal is done through WBJEE Exam. I got admission to Jadavpur University via WBJEE Counselling conducted by the West Bengal Board of Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB). I was admitted by SC/ST Quota. In this quota, some seats are reserved for students belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST). To get admission to the Computer Science Engineering Department of Jadavpur University, you have to score very good marks in WBJEE Exams. All India Rank of less than 200 will be required for General Category Students. In 2020, the counselling was done in Online mode due to a pandemic situation. There was no need to visit the campus. Students could register in their official online portal and also provide their preference of Engineering branches in order. Based on their choices, the University releases a list where every student is allotted a branch in the college. Likewise, three rounds are conducted.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Computer Science and engineering because the CSE department had been getting very excellent placement statistics for the last five years. Also, the faculties here are very well-educated and highly experienced in the research field. The faculty to student ratio is very high. There are a large number of teachers for a single subject you want to study for. Most of the teachers have also done foreign research works in places like Havard, London etc. They possess very diverse knowledge about a single topic. Faculties here are highly Qualified. Many have been teachers in some reputed Indian Institutes of Technology(IITs), NITs etc. The Teaching method is also good. They try teaching every single concept from the most basic possible. Teachers also give time to students to solve their doubts. Exams are held two times in a semester. In the middle of the semester, class tests are conducted which are 10% of overall marks. Then at the end, final semester exams are conducted.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies like Microsoft, Adobe, TCS, Infosys come to the campus to hire second year and third-year students for the role of Software Development Intern. They conduct two or three coding rounds and a final interview round to hire. Stipends offered are different for different companies. Companies like Adobe, Microsoft offer high stipends like Rs 60000 per month. Students also get a chance to gain experience in the Software Industry work. For Research Internship, students need to take the help of professors so that they can make them get contacted with great professors under research in big institutes like IIEST, IIT-B, IIT-K etc. Web Development Projects like E-commerce sites, Portfolio sites and also similar app-development projects are some examples of tasks assigned for Software Development Interns role. Google Summer of Code ( also known as GSoC ) can also be a good source to get internships for Software Development Internship roles. Students must be aware of several career roles
Placement Experience
Students start getting internships and placements opportunities after the fifth Semester. Many companies like Adobe, Microsoft, Samsung, TCS, Infosys, Directi etc visit the campus throughout the campus to hire students. They conduct a Coding test based on knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms first then an Interview round is conducted. Finally, a list is released for those students who got selected. For example this year Microsoft hire 5 students from CSE Department, Samsung hired 15 students. The highest package went around Rs 54 lakhs per annum offered by Microsoft. The average package of the CSE department went around Rs 19 lakhs per annum. Almost more than 90% of students get placed. Other students don't sit for placement because they were preparing for some competitive exams like CAT. GATE, UPSC etc. My plans are after getting a degree I will be joining some IIM to study Management and Business Studies. I am currently preparing for CAT Examination to get some good IIM.
Fees and Financial Aid
The Fees Structure is the cheapest fees structure of any Engineering Colleges In India. The Overall fees Structure is Rs. 5210 for two years for all departments except Information Technology. The fees structure for IT Department is around Rs. 30,360 for one year. The hostel fee is Rs. 25 ( Rs 10 as rental charges and Rs 15 as Electricity charges )per month. The faculties provided are very well educated and highly qualified. They possess diverse experience in their respective field of research. Some faculties have even received noble awards. The meal quality is very decent as the mess is handled by the union of students. Hence, proper hygiene care is taken. Even though, any student can opt for canteens if he/she does not want to eat from the mess. Many canteens are present throughout the campus. Both Veg and Non-veg meals can be found. The dean of the Hostel issues a form for students at the time of admission. Those who want to get hostel facilities can fill and submit. Hostels are allotted based on the Annual Family Income of the student and the distance of the hometown of the student from the campus.
