Remarks
Good Remarks - Professors, Courses, Research Environment, Placement. Bad Remark - Hostel, Food, Infrastrucutre.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is relevant and research-driven. Exam is conducted in semester system. There are two semesters in each year - Fall semester (July-Dec) and Spring Semester (Jan-May). Students go for research and industrial internships during the summer. The professors are very supportive and caring. My whole department is small in size and feels like an extended family. Our HOD is very polite. The learning during these 4 years is crucial to clear the basics of Electronics and Communications. Core companies like Samsung, Qualcomm, Microsoft, Amazon, Texas Instruments, TCS Innovation Labs visit our college and pick up the best students. Also, many of the top-rankers go to USA, Canada, Germany and Singapore for higher studies. Many people go to IITs and IIMs for MTech and MBA.
Placement Experience
As I mentioned, there are many core companies which visit our college. Besides, non-core companies like Goldman Sachs, PWC, ZS Associates, Tata Digital, IBM, L&T Infotech, Capgemini take students form our department. The recruitment process generally consists of multiple rounds - one written (computerized) round followed by several interviews. Mostly 90-95% of students are placed from our department every year. The institute arrange special sessions and tests to prepare the students. I went to Canada for a research internship in 2019.
College Events
1. Sanjog - Tech Fest (Biggest in the city) 2. Sanskriti - Cultural Fest (Again, Largest in the city) 3. There are various clubs like Science Club, Robotics Club, Music Club, Dance Club present in the campus. They arrange their own short annual events.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee is unbelievably low. In fact, the fee is lowest in India. Only INR. 10000 is required over the whole 4 yeras. (Can you imagine?) The fee of IITs and NITs are around 500000-600000 (even more). Here the educated is sponsored by the state govt. Admission fee is 5000 and the rest 5000 needs to be paid in the 3rd and 4th year.
Fees and Financial Aid
No, I did not avail any scholarship or educational loan. As the fee of the college is very low, nobody here needs to take a loan.
Campus Life
Countless intellectually stimulating discussions in the campus on a wide variety of topics ranging from fields as esoteric as quantum computing to basic mathematics, have provided me with a certain sophistication in my critical thinking that would not have been possible without the help of my conscientious and talented batch mates. These interactions helped to cultivate my desire to tread the limits of human understanding and contribute to original and impactful research as I venture into my graduateship. The gender ratio is not good for engineering. The ratio is approx 3:1 for male:female.
Hostel Facilities
No, I travel from my own home. However, there is hostel in the campus. The hostel is not very grate. This is the part which needs improvement, in my opinion. The rooms are sharing and not very clean. But the hostel is almost free.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is super strong. Many Ex-JUs are in top industry and top universities around the world. The alumni are very very helpful. The strong alumni is one of the reasons I selected JU over new IITs and NITs.
Admission
I ranked in the top 0.1 percentile in the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination, one of the toughest competitive examinations in the country. It wasn’t just the allure of studying in one of the most coveted departments in a premier institution like Jadavpur University (JU) that made me choose Electronics and Tele-Communication Engineering as my undergraduate discipline. I was also intrigued by the wide array of fields including Mathematics, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering that I could dip my toes into, as a part of my curriculum.
Faculty
There are total 20-25 professors in our department. Average age is 40-45. All the professors have PhD and there are experts in their fields. They receive plenty of research grants from privet and government industries. Some of the professors has industry experience before they came here.
