  • Then, the application form has to be filled. Students are advised to fill the details on the form carefully to avoid future rejection. (An incomplete application form is not accepted). One candidate is eligible to submit applications for a maximum of two areas.
  • He or She has to provide a valid test score of any of the accepted examinations - GMAT/ GRE/ CAT/ GATE/ JRF(NET).
  • PhD applicants must submit a statement of purpose (SOP) that reflects their research interest. The SOP must include academic background, the motivation to pursue research, interested research area & other details which the candidate could not mention in the application form.
  • Then, one has to share a proposal on any research area that the applicant is interested in. The proposal may contain a review of literature, proposed research questions and a proposed methodology. By this submission, the selection panel will try to understand the research aptitude of the applicant.
  • After that, the supporting documents are required to be submitted.
  • Then, comes the payment process for the application. For applying in only one area, INR 1000 & for applying in two areas, INR 2000 have to be paid.
  • Candidates who have previous work experience shall have to submit the “No-Objection Certificate” from their employer at the time of admission.
  • Based on the application form information, the shortlisting process is done in preferred respective areas.
  • The shortlisted candidates are invited for a first round of personal interview conducted by the members of the candidate’s area of specialization.
  • Then one has to appear for a personal interview with the Doctoral Programme and Research Committee.
  • Those who clear this final stage are given offer letters.

IIM Sirmaur Ph.D Stipend Statistics

IIM Sirmaur Ph.D students get a monthly stipend of INR 30 K excluding the house rent allowance of INR 5 K. After clearing the CQE examination, the monthly stipend is revised to INR 35 K till the end of fourth year in the programme. The stipend is in addition to the tuition fee waiver, books and materials, insurance & other contingency expenses.

Stipend can be extended for six months for a maximum of two times. If it is extended two times, stipend will be paid till 31st May of the student’s fifth year only.

Contingency Grant

A contingency grant of INR 30 K per year is allowed on a reimbursement based on the purchase of hardware, software, books, databases, data collection expenses, conference expenses & other items directly related to the programme for a maximum of 4 years.

Conference Grant

IIM Sirmaur Ph.D students get conference grants from June of their second year. The National conference grant is INR 60 K for the duration of the programme while the International conference grant is INR 2.50 Lakhs for 2 international conferences (that a PhD student can attend during the course of the programme).
