You shouldn’t join a new IIM merry to enjoy the benefits from the IIM tag because that alone won’t suffice it. It's better to take a drop year and target an older IIM than go for a new one that is yet to make its mark in the industry.
The new IIMs are suitable for those who are ready to work and toil and take advantage of opportunities in building a new institute. Most students will end up with a job but it’s not a brainer that there will be a big compromise and namesake job compared to the colorful careers an IIM brand promises.

Which college is better IIM Sirmaur or IIM Bodhgaya?
Compare the summer and final placement reports of both batches for all the 3 years. Look up the student clubs and activities on both campuses. They are absolutely necessary for your 2 years there. Finally, look up the professors in both colleges, majorly for the subject, you will probably be specializing in. Good professors impart their experience along with education. The admission process is same as that of MBA program i.e. CAT followed by Personal Interview. The MBA Tourism cutoff is lower compared to the flagship MBA. The cutoff for MBA Tourism is 80 percentile overall and 65 percentile sectional for general category, whereas the cutoff for MBA is 94 percentile overall.
Last year around 58 companies visited IIM Sirmaur to hire the MBA Tourism students. The highest package offered to the students was INR 34 Lakhs and the average salary was at INR 11.82 LPA, offering an ROI of 47.75%.

Six connectivity brings in better and more faculty and also top companies for recruitment that don’t visit Sirmaur and Sambalpur due to poor connectivity.
- Mentorship: This is another factor that sets IIM Bodh Gaya apart from other baby items. Once under the mentorship of the top IIM, IIM Calcutta, IIM Bodh Gaya still has a similar pedagogy and curriculum.
Both these factors differentiate Bodh Gaya from Sambalpur and Sirmaur extremely well.
What was your experience of studying at IIM Sirmaur?
My brother was a part of the batch that suffered from covid regulations. Although the first year was online, the second year was totally virtual. Other than online classes one major hardship his batch faced was the internship offer getting revoked. Narrating his experience, he told me that
- the initial days were very enthusiastic and filled with thrill. Throughout the day, formal inductions were conducted and esteemed guests from the industry enlightened the students about the dos and don'ts of the College.
- Other activities included students getting enrolled to various clubs and committees which required interviews.
- The pedagogy comprises the case study, preparation, and guest lecture. You have to make presentations and also discuss the slides in front of your batchmates
- Interacting with peers from various walks of life is itself an enriching experience. You can use this opportunity to grow.
- The student-driven culture allows you to manage and organize various events. You get maximum exposure through managing the budget, learning the operation of event management, networking with the right set of guests, and having close interaction with them.
- Owing to its vicinity to many cities you get to explore places like Dehradun, Maclodgangj, Dharamshala, and Chandigarh. You can also take road trips down to the Himalayan lane.
Overall the experience was a really good one and my brother made some amazing college memories.
