The NTA has released the tentative schedule for JEE Main 2026, showing that the exam will be conducted in 2 sessions (January 2026 and April 2026). 
The JEE Main Session 1 is expected to be conducted between January 21 and 30, 2026, and Session 2 will be conducted between April 1 and 10, 2026.
The JEE Main online registration for Session 1 will be open soon on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, in October 2025. The online registration for JEE Main Session 2 will start in the last week of January after the completion of Session 1.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that JEE Main 2026 registration for Session 1 will start in October 2025. The official registration dates are not out yet. NTA will release the JEE Main 2026 dates and other details soon on the NTA JEE Mains official website jeemain.nta.nic.in.

  • JEE Main 2026 registration last date is expected to be in mid-November 2025.
  • To apply for 1 paper, pay a JEE Main 2025 registration fee of Rs 1000 for Gen male and Rs 800 for Gen female candidates.
  • Indian or foreign candidates who have passed or are appearing for Class 12 in 2024, 2025, or 2026, with physics, math, and one more subject (either chemistry, biology, biotech, or a technical paper), will be eligible for JEE Main. There is no upper age limit.

Last year, a total of 4,89,210 candidates registered for JEE Main session 1 examination, and for JEE Main session 2 examination, a total of 4,00,696 candidates registered.

NTA has not released the JEE Main 2026 official exam dates for both sessions: Session 1 (January) and Session 2 (April). So, as per the previous years' analysis, it is expected that:

  • NTA will start the registration of JEE Main Session 1 in 1st week of October 2025 till December 2025.
  • The registration of JEE Main Session 2 is expected to start from 1st week of February till last week of February 2026.

JEE Main 2026 reservation policy will have Vertical and horizontal reservations. Vertical reservations are different for each group and are not transferable to other categories: for OBC-NCL candidates of 27%, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 10% for GEN-EWS. What is the minimum marks required for JEE Main 2026?

In JEE Main Eligibility criteria, there is no minimum percentage required to appear in either session (January or April) of JEE Main 2026. You must pass (or appear in) Class 12 in 2024, 2025, or 2026, with PCM (and/or other required subjects per paper)

JEE Main 2026 Exam Date: Here are the expected dates

NTA will conduct the JEE Main 2026 exam in two sessions: Session 1 (January 2026) and Session 2 (April 2026). The exams will be held in 2 shifts, i.e, morning shift from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and afternoon shift from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM over several days.

What is the format of JEE Mains 2026 exam?

The format of the JEE Main exam has not changed since 2025 so far. The JEE Main Exam pattern has returned to the pre-pandemic format. The JEE Main exam consists of 75 questions (25 each in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) in 3 hours through CBT.

This structure was restored in 2024 and it will continue in JEE Main 2026, along with the removal of section B, which allowed optional numerical questions (students could choose 5 out of 10).

Is there negative marking in JEE Mains 2026?

JEE Main negative marking is released along with the JEE Main exam pattern by NTA.

How many attempts for JEE Main 2026?

Candidates are allowed up to 6 attempts in JEE Main 2026. You get to appear for two sessions per year over 3 consecutive years from the year of passing Class 12. There is no minimum percentage necessary to appear in JEE Main 2026.

What is the JEE Main 2026 exam pattern?
  • The JEE Main Paper 1 (B.Tech) will include 75 questions, 25 questions from each subject: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • The JEE Main Paper 2A (B.Arch) will be conducted in a hybrid mode (pen-and-paper drawing test), including Mathematics and an Aptitude section.

Candidates can follow the steps below to create their JEE Main 2026 Login:

  • Step 1: Visit the official website of JEE Main, i.e, jeemain.nta.nic.in
  • Step 2: Click on the direct link of “Online Registration”. A new window will appear. Click on “New Registration” to create your login ID and Password
  • Step 3: Now, JEE Main 2026 registration form opens. Enter the following details:
    • State of Eligibility
    • State from where class 12th is passed/appearing
    • Identification ID type
    • Identification ID number
    • Candidates Name
    • Date of Birth
    • Gender
    • Enter the security pin (Captcha) and click on submit

How to create a strong JEE Main password?

Yes, you can apply for both the sessions of JEE Main 2026. The highest of your two scores will be considered. 

  • If you wish to apply for both sessions, you must register and pay the JEE Main registration fee separately for Sessions 1 and 2.
  • If you appear in both sessions, then the best JEE Main score among the two sessions will be considered for ranking or merit list.
  • However, it is not mandatory to appear in both sessions; you can also choose either session.
What should I do if I forget JEE Main password?

In case you forget the JEE Main password, you must visit the official website – jeemain.nta.nic.in. Go to the Candidate Login and click on “Forgot Password”. Then a new window will appear where you will get three options to retrieve the password using any of the three options:

  • In the first option, you must provide the correct answer to the security question you mentioned during the form-filling process.
  • You can also take the second option, where an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile. Using this OTP, you can reset your password.
