In India MBBS admission takes place only on the basis of entrance exams which is NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. NEET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It serves as a single-window entrance exam for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses (MBBS and BDS) in government and private colleges nationwide. NEET assesses candidates' knowledge in subjects like physics, chemistry, and biology, along with their aptitude for problem-solving and critical thinking. It has replaced various state-level medical entrance exams and has become the primary route for medical admissions in India.

MBBS Entrance Exam Counselling

NEET counseling in India is a crucial process that follows the NEET entrance examination. Once the results are declared, eligible candidates participate in counseling to secure seats in medical and dental colleges. The counseling process is facilitated by centralized and state counseling authorities, depending on the jurisdiction.

The counseling process for NEET includes two categories:

15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats and 85% State quota seats. For the 15% AIQ seats, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) organizes the counseling, allowing candidates from all over India to participate. On the other hand, the counseling for the 85% State quota seats is conducted individually by each state.

This separate counseling process ensures that candidates from a particular state have the opportunity to secure admissions to medical colleges within their state. So, depending on the seat category, the counseling procedures differ, ensuring fair representation and access to medical education for students nationwide.
