A brief discussion about AIIMS bsc.(H) nursing course

Academic structure and curriculum in the campus

After the course, there will be an exam called NORCET, by passing this, anyone can be a AIIMS nursing officer , a central govt job with farely handsome salary. This is a real medical field, and we are medicos from 1st yr., coz we are not only reading books, but also , we are going to clinicals and serving care to critical patients , so allover it is farely realistic. There are options like in academic section, like after bsc. You can opt for msc nursing and being a nsg tutor in any govt. College. You may pursue PhD in nsg to being a professor in nsg college (prv, govt or Central govt.) Some major improvements are needed in this course, like making some productive assignment, update the WHO and ICMR rules in all books and discard old rules, and the biggest problem of nurses are not made for bedmaking, this can also be done by patient attendant, so have to remove this procedure . Only nurses can help in bedmaking for critical patients where patient can't move out from bed. There is a need for occupied bed, where can be a nurse needed. Frequency of exam is once in a two month. Internal subbies exam level is easy to moderate, very rarely hard But external subbies exam is moderate, and sometimes hard.

What are the internship opportunities in the campus and stipend?

Internship is present, by tying-up with AIIMS , for 6 months after 3 and a half year. Internship stipend is 13500/- per month at AIIMS delhi. And after 4 yr, you have to sit NORCET exam for being AIIMS registered nursing officer. Salary starts from 75K /month.

Total fees structure of the course and scholarship

4 yr course fee is 3165/- as it is totally central govt. Afforded course. Hostel fees 840 per year with free 24×7 electricity and water supply. However, Mess fee is different from that , per month 3000/-. Even you get stipend monthly 500/- rupees, even national scholarships are also available for study. Caution money is included with course fee, 1000/-, which will be returned after 4 yr No lab fees No tuition fees But before exam the online form fill-up needed 2000/- for general category, 1000/- for SC and ST

Students views about the campus life

There is a annual function called pulse where various Bollywood celeb used to come and perform. AIIMS wings for different segment like Drs Nurses, researchers celebrate India's famous ceremonies into their department. So , for any Indian ceremony, you may expect a cultural function on jln auditorium, and enjoy!!!

What are facilities available in the college hostel?

I have no rented accommodation cause AIIMS provide hostel for all bsc nsg students, it's our medha 15 hostel. We get 1 box bed, 1 pretty study table , a chair, a shelf , and big almirah. There are 4 , 3, 2, 1 seater room present according to year. 4 and 3 seater rooms are generally provided to 1st yr students. There is also a mirror and dressing table present for 4, 3 , 2 , 1 rooms. There are 3 wings present in our hostel, in which 2 wings rooms having not their personalized washrooms, but having a common washroom. The one wing roomers having their personal washroom , balcony and kitchen in their room. There is a reading room present on every floor and each wing have a pantry room where anyone can make food, by their choice. Food menu : Monday : paratha-chole || rice, roti , mixed daal, mix veg, lassi, salad || roti, rice, mixed daal, chole curry Tuesday : poha, sandwitch || curry-rice, salad , daal , roti || soya-chap, roti , rice , daal Wednesday: aloo paratha, aachar || roti , rice , salad , salad , spinach curry || chilli paneer , roti , rice daal Same repeats, with chicken , egg , mashroom , in any day, and Sunday special menu

Faculty and examination pattern of the college

The faculty to student ratio is remarkably good, in internal classes(Nursing Foundation) we have atleast 20 faculties for 1 subbie. For external classes and practical, like anatomy physiology there is 1 teacher for 11or 12 students. For microbiology there is 1 teacher for 25 students avg. Names of the respected faculties can't share because of our college privacy policies, but must admit all professors are not at all "top level" like most of the student thinks that it is AIIMS delhi. We also bother boring lectures, sleep issues in classes. Exams are present on interval of 2 months, level is easy to moderate, rarely hard, internal subbies are as usual easy to pass, but external subbies having some kind of difficulty level and students may fail , like in anatomy , physiology and microbiology. All over maybe 2 -3 students fail to gather marks in each year. Course curriculum is effective, but some curriculum like initially bed-making and it's type are kinda useless, coz when we go for hospital duty , there will hardly any medicos to maintain these procedures. Assignments are too unproductive, most of us making assignment from seniors, even without reading what had she written. So highlighted topic learning is not been highlighted for students. On exam times, for the vast syllabus, there are too many issues to cope up, and reading the proper one to discard the not needed one. Duty, demo and college classes are hectic.

What is the admission process of the campus?

I got also chance on IISER berhampur , NIT Hamirpur,BHU, IEM kolkata and BDS in semi govt. Medical college, but I have a passion in medical field , so opt for AIIMS delhi. You have to crack AIIMS bsc nsg exam with minimal 1500 rank in general category to opt for any AIIMS .

Nightlife and Recreational Facilities on Campus

AIIMS have personalized 2 gyms better called Gymkhana, have Nescafe cafeteria, and plenty numbers of canteen in campus. Have one of the biggest AIIMS delhi library called BB Dixit Library, in our campus. Have 2-3 parks garden, swimming pool, walking places allover in AIIMS . There are visitors room for only AIIMS staff family members, and being in the midst of delhi, you may explore the whole delhi in 4 yr of your course.

AIIMS Delhi: 21 Answered Questions

I am now in MAMC Delhi Should I drop this year to get into AIIMS Delhi I am sure to get selected next year?

Bidita MukharjeeMBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College

MAMC is a good option and well-recognized in the medical fraternity. You won’t regret joining the institute. Also, in medical field, your institute name won’t matter much. If you want to pursue higher studies after graduation, you need to follow the same steps, irrespective of whether you are graduating from AIIMS or MAMC.

After joining MAMC, you also have the option to prepare for AIIMS next year. It will be difficult, but doable.

How can I get in AIIMS Delhi?

Vedant MishraMBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi

AIIMS Delhi admissions are now based on the NEET examination. The examination now tests a candidate’s accuracy and speed more than his mental abilities.

  • Stick to NCERT and do not leave any details untouched
  • Read in-between the lines
  • Use one reference book or one coaching module. In case you find any topic difficult, refer to the reference book or coaching module
  • Practice your speed
  • You need to have a good command of the language in which you will be giving your exam. This will enable you to understand what the question demands from you
  • If you have 6 months for your preparation, use 5 months to study, and the remaining one month to revise and practice mock tests
  • Take as many mock tests as you can to clear your exam with the required rank. Take at least 10 mock tests.
  • If your memorizing skills are good, give more time to Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Physics
  • If your logical skills are good, give more priority to Biology and Inorganic Chemistry
  • Refer to your Physics manual and, for problems, practice using D.C. Pandey and for theory refer to H.C. Verma
  • 10-14 hours per day of dedicated preparation will get you through
  • Stay hydrated, Keep a healthy sleep routine, and exercise

You must follow these basic practices and make sure to prepare with dedication and honesty to secure a position at AIIMS Delhi. Although the competition is high, with the proper routine you will be able to achieve a high enough rank to get into AIIMS Delhi.

Which way is better, to do an MS general surgery and then take up neurosurgery as a superspeciality, or the direct 6yrs (Mch) Neurosurgery course (offered by AIIMS and NIMHANS) after an MBBS?

Raktim Tarafdar
Sanjana KapoorLives in New Delhi

I’ll be sharing with you my opinion on both.

As a 6-year MCh candidate, you’ll rotate through 10 months of general surgery. However, general surgery skills aren’t of much use in Neurosurgery, except the very basic knot-tying and suturing skills. You can also acquire those from dedicated lab practice. The other techniques followed in Neurosurgery are very different from those followed in general surgery.

Neurosurgeons generally use access surgeons (thoracic surgeons or urologists) to perform unconventional approaches to the spine. It is much safer for the patient. Also, opting for a 6-year course after MBBS means one less entrance exam.

So it isn’t very beneficial for you to take up 3 years of MS general surgery. I would recommend you choose the direct 6 year Mh Neurosurgery course at AIIMS or NIMHANS instead.

Which is better AIIMS or JIPMER?

Sanjana KapoorLives in New Delhi

Although both JIPMER and AIIMS are elite medical colleges in India, I believe AIIMS is slightly better than JIPMER. Here are some common differences that can be pointed out

  • JIPMER has a higher intake than AIIMS so the student-teacher ratio is also higher. This further results in a higher student-patient ratio when one patient is examined for a class.
  • AIIMS has a bigger hospital, more patient flow, and better equipment thereby enhancing the overall learning experience. In AIIMS students are left to study on their own and academics aren’t forced upon them while in JIPMER the teachers teach a lot of theory and practice.
  • AIIMS refers most general and simple cases to other hospitals so you won’t be able to see a variety of cases while in JIPMER, you see all types of cases.
  • AIIMS has better research facilities and funding so if you are willing to do research projects, AIIMS is better for you.
  • JIPMER offers extensive internships that teach a lot and provide hands-on experience and clinical practice. AIIMS clinical testing and internships aren’t that good.
  • Both JIPMER and AIIMS have a strong alumni network and reservations for post-graduation courses that give you ample opportunities for courses and jobs after finishing your studies.
  • Delhi being a metropolitan city has better recreational activities while Pondicherry is the best place if you want a peaceful and calm environment.
  • Pulse by AIIMS is the largest intercollegiate medical festival in the country while Spandan by JIPMER is probably the second largest. Pulse definitely has better cultural activities while Spandan definitely has better sporting ones.
  • AIIMS has better post-graduation and super specialty courses.

Overall, both are excellent institutes and if you even have a choice between AIIMS and JIPMER, then go for AIIMS.

The life of an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) student in Delhi can be both challenging and rewarding. What is the preparation strategy of AIIMS Delhi?

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

The best way is not to set any targets because when you do, you are limiting yourself to a certain extent. You may or may not achieve your target. But if you don’t set one, you can aim for the sky. AIIMS Delhi was the dream college of one of my friends who had literally no chance of making it into it. The only mantra he followed was not to expect yourself to perform to a particular or specific level, but rather give it your all. As for the preparation strategy, here is what he shared

  • Practice Assertion Reason questions: This section is often underestimated when in reality it is a major rank-determining factor.
  • Attend assertion reason questions in the beginning: Some might find it weird, but he chose to solve Assertion Reason before the exams as they required a fresh mind which would not have been possible after exams.
  • Don’t forget the negative marks:  The negative marking might affect your overall performance drastically so beware of it.
  • Always stay patient: Don't panic even if you find the question paper to be very challenging as you will forget whatever you have studied.

Hope you score well!

Can one clear AIIMS Delhi within 1 year of preparation?

Fayaz YousufMBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences

Yes, it’s possible to clear AIIMS Delhi with only one year of preparation. Usually, students take 2 years to prepare but there are many who have done it in one. If you put in the required effort, it’s possible.

You should adopt a target-based preparation strategy. Take a chapter and keep on giving tests until you score at least 90% in it. Once done, move on to the next chapter. Make daily, weekly, and monthly preparation plans.

How much prize money can I get if I got AIR 1 in the NEET, AIIMS, and JIPMER?

DivyaMBBS student at AIIMS New Delhi

In the present scenario, admissions to AIIMS and JIPMER Pondicherry are conducted through NEET UG. Earlier, the institutions conducted their own entrance exams to admit students into their MBBS program.

Now coming to your question, the authorities won’t reward you with any money for securing AIR 1 in the entrance exam. However, your name will be submitted to the Limca Book of records, and you’ll receive prize money from there.

Another way is that unfortunately, plenty of coaching institutes approach NEET toppers to use their names in billboards and coaching materials’ back covers. These institutes will pay you to pretend that you studied for your NEET exam from them. It is possible that book brands will pay you for positive feedback.

These are the multiple ways that toppers gain popularity and money after NEET results. However, make sure to keep your head down and work even harder once you achieve this milestone. Even though you won't receive any cash prize from the authorities, you’ll

study at AIIMS New Delhi, or any other topmost medical college in India for a minimal fee.
