How to Become a Teacher After 12^th 

The following steps should be followed to become a teacher after class 12 in India 

• Complete Class 12 - Candidates must clear class 12 in any stream from a recognised board with 50% marks
• Get a Bachelor’s Degree - Candidates are required to have a bachelor’s degree in any stream to pursue a B.Ed course. Candidates can pursue a bachelor’s degree in any stream.
• Pursue a B.Ed Degree - Candidates can join a B.Ed course in a recognised university after the completion of their bachelor’s degree. It is the primary criterion to become a teacher in India. Students can also go for integrated B.Ed courses.
• Apply for Entrance Exams - Teachers have to appear in entrance exams like CTET, STET and TET so that they can teach in different schools across the country
• Apply for Teaching Jobs - After qualifying for the exam, candidates can start applying for vacancies at government and private schools.

Primary Teacher

Candidates with B.Ed degrees are eligible to become Primary Teachers in India. B.El.Ed (Bachelor of Elementary Education) is another degree that candidates can pursue to become a Primary Teacher. It is a specialised course for Primary Teachers aimed at child development stages.

After completing their education, candidates can apply for entrance exams and upon qualifying, can start applying for Primary Teacher vacancies. 

Secondary Teacher

Secondary Teachers have expertise in particular subjects and teach students of higher classes like class 11 and class 12. To become a secondary teacher, candidates are required to have an undergraduate degree in the particular area of their expertise. Upon completion of the degree, students have to enrol in a mandatory B.Ed degree. 

After B.Ed, candidates have to appear in different teacher eligibility exams. After clearing the exam, candidates can start applying for jobs. A postgraduate, M.Phil or PhD degree is highly recommended as it increases the chances of getting hired. 

Government Teacher

To become a teacher in government schools, candidates are required to have an undergraduate degree along with a B.Ed degree. Upon completion of the degrees, they have to apply for exams like CTET and STET clearing which makes them eligible to apply for government teacher posts. CTET/STET exams are mandatory for government teacher jobs. PRT. TGT and PGt are the categories of government teachers depending on their experience and education.

To become a teacher in India, a B.Ed is the minimum degree that candidates are supposed to possess along with their UG degrees. Integrated B.Ed are also available to students which saves their time as they do not have to complete UG and B.Ed degrees separately. Some of the top teaching courses are as follows. 

• B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) - B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) can be pursued after class 12 or undergraduate. It is a mandatory degree in India to teach in higher and higher secondary schools. Candidates need to have a minimum of 50% marks in class 12 or UG to pursue this course.
• B.El.Ed (Bachelor of Elementary Education) - B.El.Ed (Bachelor of Elementary Education) is a 4-year professional program for elementary teacher education. Candidates learn about child psychology, cognitive development and theories and practices of elementary education in this course.
• D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education) - D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education) is a 2-year diploma course in which students are taught the basics of teaching so that they can apply for elementary teacher roles. 
• JBT (Junior Basic Training) - JBT (Junior Basic Training) is a diploma-level course for candidates aspiring to become teachers. It is 2 years long and candidates can teach in elementary schools with a JBT degree.
• Integrated B.Ed courses - Integrated B.Ed courses are undergraduate programs combining a bachelor’s degree with B.Ed. The courses are 4 years long and students get a dual degree. BSc B.Ed, BA B.Ed and BCom B.Ed are some of the most famous integrated B.Ed courses.
