The channel host explains the latest updates about NMIMS MBA admissions and how the new process works. The speaker goes over dashboard updates, slot booking for assessment tests, revised weightage in selection, and strict rules for work experience verification. The video is aimed at helping aspirants prepare better for the NMIMS process.

Key Points Covered

  • Dashboard Updates: All admission details, slot booking, and document status are now shown only on the NMIMS portal.
  • Slot Booking: Limited slots, first-come-first-served. Early booking is strongly advised.
  • Weightage Change: Assessment test weightage is now 50%; NMAT score reduced to 20%.
  • Work Experience Rules: Only salaried jobs count. Self-employment and family business are not allowed. Bank statements are needed to prove work.
  • Cut-offs & Preparation: Borderline scorers (209–230) must revise the NMAT syllabus thoroughly for the tough assessment test.
  • Future Trend: NMIMS may phase out NMAT entirely, relying more on its internal test.

Note: NMIMS is making its MBA admission process harder, placing greater emphasis on its own test and less on NMAT. Candidates should stay informed, prepare thoroughly, and book slots early.

Conclusion

With NMAT’s weightage reduced from 30% to 20% and the Competency Assessment now carrying 50%, NMIMS Mumbai has changed its approach to evaluation. The significant cutoff drop from 248 in 2024 to around 209 in 2025 highlights a move from purely exam-focused selection to a more holistic assessment. For applicants, this means excelling in analytical reasoning, communication, and problem-solving is now as crucial as scoring well in NMAT. Overall, NMIMS Mumbai's modified evaluation scheme prioritises candidates who demonstrate strong academic performance alongside abilities beyond academics.

I've applied to colleges like Christ University, Symbiosis and IIM Indore. Unfortunately, I could'nt get into IIM and about Christ and Symbi, I did'nt got call from central campus. So the core reason choosing NMIMS was that I got into central campus which is in Bombay, the financial capital of India. Mumbai has broaden my perspective regarding various aspects. During my admission process, I reralised one thing that all you need is confidence while appearing for the interview. For NMIMS, one needs to clear NPAT, where 2 retakes can be given and based on the merit of NPAT, you'll get the admission in whichever campus applied for. NPAT is a 120 mark exam with no negative marking and the ideal score for NPAT would be approximately 70/120.

Admission process is merit based , based on the NMIMSCET for engineering students , The branch allotment and upgradation is again merit based during orientation. I chose the degree MBA TECH because it had mba and btech both integrated and as heard from my friends who graduated the placements are little above average but in terms of ROI its very high, i did apply for other colleges but looking the relavent structure and along with reviews the crowd the people you get at this college is very well mannered and quite good .

Admission:

I'm glad I secured admission here as it has proven to be the perfect choice for my aspirations in the finance industry. And the complications going with the MHCET exam created a hustle between the students and the colleges they want to opt for due to re-examination. The application process of many colleges delayed by 2-3 months, which I wanted to avoid. Because now that I see few of my friends, those who waited for the result and now they cannot find a good college. Also the criteria for N pet is minimum 50% marks in class 12th with mathematics or statistics as a subject in 12th. I got selected in Navi Mumbai campus, but got waitlisted in Mumbai because of my cut-off in entrance exam and I selected for both Bsc finance and BBA in navi Mumbai. But I chose finance.

Why would students still join NMIMS, Mumbai even though it has lost its reputation?

Nirmalya PalMBA in Operations Management & Marketing, Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (Graduated 2018)

NMIMS may have deteriorated over the last few years but it still is considered one of the top 10 B Schools in the country. It is still preferred by many owing to various factors like location, industry exposure, placements, and peer learning.

Pros

  • The industry exposure one can avail owing to its excellent location is a primary reason for its everlasting reputation
  • It enjoys better brand recognition that the newer IIMs
  • The placements at NMIMS are excellent with almost all the companies visiting the top IIMs cities NMIMS campus. However the quality of roles offered may slightly vary. Yet when compared to newer IIMs, NMIMS has a much better placement scenario.
  • The location itself is a major reason why it is preferred over the new IIMs
  • An average person may find it difficult to bag a good package at NMIMS. But if you are among the top students you can easily get a good package as the average is INR 23.07 LP

Cons

The increasing batch size has become a major issue thereby reducing the overall quality of education and placements.

What are the chances of converting NMIMS Mumbai call?

Prerona Datta
Rohit PandeyMBA from SVKM's NMIMS (Graduated 2018)

Compared to other entrance exams, NMAT is a relatively easier one. But because most students that sit for NMAT want to get into NMIMS so the competition is tough. So just getting across the cutoff is not sufficient, you need to aim for the highest.

The other aspects of the admission process through NMAT include

  • NMAT score
  • Personal Interview
  • Case Discussion
  • Academic record
  • Work Experience
  • Academic/Gender diversity

One needs to keep certain points regarding NMAT in mind. Firstly an excellent score does not guarantee admission. You have to ace the CD and PI rounds as well. But overall the chances of conversion are high due to high intake provided that you perform well in CD and PI. Separate rounds of CD and PI are held for Core and HRM. Also, NMIMS has a 30% reservation for girls.

Some tips that will increase your chances of conversion to NMIMS are

SOP: Your Statement of Purpose should clearly state why MBA, that too from NMIMS. It should state valid reasons as to why you should be selected over other students by mentioning your unique traits.

Case Discussion: The Case Discussion round is more to analyze your personality than your knowledge. So follow the rules throughout and give 2-3 solid points and give others an equal opportunity. Don't validate your opinion rudely at all.

Personal Interview: The interview is usually conducted by 3 panelists. If you have work experience, you will be questioned regarding that. For instance your role in your previous company and achievements. They will also question your goals after your MBA and which industry you have chosen and why. To stay on the safer side, be well-versed in current affairs. Also, don’t lose your calm at any given moment.

Which is best to join new iim or nmims mumbai core?

Sadia Naseem
Divyanshu RanjanMBA from Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur (Graduated 2020)

While many may not agree, the new IIMs are far better than NMIMS. People prefer NMIMS mainly because of its location and legacy. If you come out of that criteria then you realize that the new IIMs are much more. I have compared the new IIMs with NMIMS on the basis of a few aspects.

  • Strength: The increasing batch size is a major problem in NMIMS as it directly affects placements. The best companies hire only 3-4 students. Thus almost half the batch is placed in mediocre companies with average roles. New IIMs, on the other hand, have a very small batch size and therefore there is equality in placements
  • NMIMS: NMIMS MBA fees is much more than the new IIMS. Also, the accommodation costs are high and the ultimate ROI is not good at all.
  • Campus Life: The most crucial drawback that NMIMS faces is a lack of hostel life. There are zero recreational or sports activities. No playgrounds or sports facilities are available. The new IIMs are excellent in this aspect with world-class facilities both in terms of education and recreation.
  • Placements: NMIMS placements are o n level with IIM Ranchi, the oldest among the new IIMs. Trichy and Kashipur are almost reaching that level too.

So the new IIMs are far better in terms of brand, faculty, and even ROI.

How do I prepare for the CDPI in NMIMS, Mumbai? Will I get admission into NMIMS, Bangalore if my Mumbai CDPI does not go well?

Prasanth Reddyformer Placement Executive at SVKM's NMIMS (2017-2019)

Preparing for the CD PI round is a crucial part because your chances of admission depend on them largely. My answer entails the tips one must adhere to before and during the Case Discussion round.

Before Case Discussion

Be well versed in current affairs, general knowledge and industry trends.

Prepare arguments on some specific topics including both sides of the argument

Prepare concise but concrete points

Mock discussions are the most precise way to prepare for CD

Analyze your own performance relentlessly and keep improving

During Case Discussions

  • During the initial 15 minutes, deliver 2-3 strong points
  • Present the problem in a crisp manner
  • Support your points with real-life examples or that from current affairs. Supporting your own or even others' points through reasoning and examples will get you free points
  • Summarize all the good points given by the others on a sheet of paper to give a nice ending note
  • Give chance to the silent speakers this might impress the panelists
  • Add recommendations and support it with relevant information

Personal Interview

  • Know about yourself like your abilities, strengths, and weaknesses and present it in a good manner
  • Practice the interview with someone and receive feedbacks
  • You should prepare on personal information, education background, work experiences, hobbies, interests, future plans, and current affairs.

Mock CD and PI are extremely important as the advice and feedback received will increase your performance and confidence tremendously.

Coming to the second part of your question, Both colleges have different merit lists. If you don't do well in NM Mumbai rounds, you still stand a chance to convert your NM Bangalore/Hyderabad call, provided you’ve applied for a PGDM course as well.

How much should I score to get admission in NMIMS Mumbai?

Prashant SethMBA from NMIMS Mumbai(2020)

To increase your chances of admission into NMIMS Mumbai, it is recommended that you aim for a score of 209-210 in the NMAT exam. It is also important to clear the sectional cut-offs. However, it is essential to note that a higher score does not guarantee admission while a lower score does not necessarily reduce your chances of conversion.

Your performance in the GD and PI rounds is also crucial for the final shortlist. Therefore, it is important to perform your best at every stage of the process. The final shortlist is based on the cumulative scores of the NMAT exam, GD, and PI. It is also advisable to talk to the faculty and alumni to get a better understanding of the admission process and make an informed decision.

Considering my credentials, can I get a call from any of these colleges, IIMs, FMS, XLRI or NMIMS, MICA, TAPMI, or SIBM?

Advait JoshiLives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Colleges may call depending on numerous variables. IIMs rarely call candidates without a 95+ percentile. IIMs exclusively accept top academic and overall candidates. Other colleges like FMS, XL, SPJIMR, and MDI assess the candidate's whole profile, giving them a little edge. These institutions consider work experience, extracurriculars, and leadership skills in addition to academic performance.

Even after being accepted to a top college, a candidate's academic performance may affect their placements, which could damage their job chances. The only thing candidates can control is their CAT/XAT score. So they should try their best and then decide.

Which should be preferred to join NMIMS or IIM Ranchi?

Tithi AggrawalMBA from SVKM's NMIMS (Graduated 2016)

When deciding between IIM Ranchi and NMIMS Mumbai, consider the following points:

  • Brand name: While IIM Ranchi has the "IIM" tag, NMIMS is a more established and well-known brand, particularly among employers.
  • Alumni network: NMIMS has a larger and more active alumni network, particularly within Mumbai, which can provide valuable support and connections.
  • Corporate exposure: Located in Mumbai, NMIMS offers greater opportunities for industry exposure and interactions with professionals.
  • Placements: While the chances of being placed may be slightly higher at NMIMS, the average CTCs at both schools are similar.
