NMIMS Mumbai Hostels: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 1042 Reviews

The NMIMS Shirpur campus hostel features 400 sq ft rooms accommodating four students, creating a luxurious 5-star ambiance. It offers swimming pool access, 24/7 warden availability, and facilities such as an infirmary, TV rooms, common study areas, and a gym. Room sharing options include two, three, or four students, with air conditioning as an optional, costly add-on. Hostel fees range from INR 1.3 to 2.8 lakh per annum, exclusive of mess charges.

The mess provides decent meals with some variety. Due to high costs, many students opt for nearby PG accommodations or flats, which offer more freedom and are often cheaper, ranging from INR 12,000 to 30,000 per month. PGs generally include amenities like meals, housekeeping, and gym access. The hostel's proximity to campus is convenient, but the limited availability of rooms leads many to seek alternative housing. Overall, the hostel provides satisfactory facilities, though some students criticize the high costs and limited privacy.

What are the reviews for the NMIMS Mumbai hostel for girls and the Sanghavi hostel for MBA girls?

Akriti Guptalives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

NMIMS hostel facility includes two full-fledged hostels and three rented residential accommodations that are taken care by the university in Mumbai, separately for boys and girls. The students admitted are given preference on a first come first basis; and preference is given to students from outside of Mumbai to the hostel. The girls' hostels are provided with all the modern amenities, good nutritious food and purified drinking water facilities. Most of the rooms are triple sharing and have a separate washroom inside the room. The rooms are big and spacious with box beds. Each bed is provided with a study table, chair, and a personal almirah. The only odd thing is that despite being MBA hostel, it has a curfew.

You cannot get inside the hostel after 11PM unless you have a valid reason with enough proof.

Does NMIMS Mumbai provide hostel accommodation or residential facilities near the campus? What's the cost associated?

Shivani DeshmukhB.Sc. in Finance (college major), NMIMS

If you are considering staying at MKM Sanghavi hostel at NMIMS Mumbai, here are some important things you should know based on personal experience:

  • Food: The mess facility is available, but it can be expensive at Rs 75 per thali. It is open from around 7:30 am to 10 pm, but breakfast is often not served on time. If you come back from college after 10 pm, you will need to order food from outside. Sharing a thali can be a good way to save money.
  • Washing: There is a washing machine area on the first floor with around 7-8 machines, but only half of them work. With so many girls and only a few working machines, it can be challenging to wash your clothes. MBA students have erratic schedules, and they may not be able to use the washing machine when they want to.
  • Water: There is a machine on every floor, but some girls prefer to buy their own Bisleri water because they have heard rumors of worms in the water from the machines. You only get hot water in your bathroom for a limited time each day, and it can take a while to get hot water. This can be inconvenient when you are busy with deadlines.
  • Fridge: There is a fridge on every floor, and you can label your milk tetra packs with your name. If there is no fridge on your floor, you can ask the authorities to provide one.
  • Curfew: The curfew is 11 pm, but you can enter later if you are coming back from college or placements. However, once you are in the hostel, you cannot leave after 11 pm. If you need to stay in the library to study, they will not let you out after curfew.
  • Rooms: The rooms are spacious, with most being triple sharing and a few twin-sharing. The beds are single beds with box beds, and you get a study table and cupboard. Storage space is decent, but lighting is low, so many people use table lamps in addition to the light at the study table.
  • Bathrooms: The bathrooms have been designed well, with three separate areas for the bath, toilet, and wash basin. Lighting is low, though, and some plug points may not work.
  • Open drain: The biggest disadvantage of the hostel is the open drain behind the building, which leads to a lot of mosquitoes. The common area on each floor overlooks the drain, and some rooms have balconies that open to the drain.

How's hostel life at NMIMS Mumbai?

Sherina PhutelaBCom(Hons) from SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

If you are planning to stay at the MKM Sanghavi hostel, here are some things you need to keep in mind:

  • Food: The mess facility available charges Rs75 per thali, which can be expensive if you don't have someone to share it with. The mess is open from 7:30 am to 10 pm, but the breakfast is often served late. If you come back to the hostel after 10 pm, you will need to order food from outside.
  • Washing: The washing machine area on the first floor has only a few machines that work. With a hostel of 100 girls, it can be difficult to wash your clothes, especially on Sundays. Additionally, if you have erratic timings, it may be challenging to do your laundry.
  • Water: Although there is a machine on every floor, most girls prefer to order their own Bisleri water as rumors say that there have been worms in the pumped water. Also, hot water is available for a limited time period and often takes a long time to fill up.
  • Fridge: There is a fridge on every floor where you can keep your milk tetra packs with your name on them. However, some floors may not have a fridge, and you will need to ask the authorities to install one.
  • Curfew: The curfew is at 11 pm, but you can still enter the hostel after that time. However, you cannot leave the hostel after 11 pm. During exams and placements, people may stay in the library or other areas until late, and the hostel will allow them to enter.
  • Rooms: The rooms are spacious and big, with most of them being three-sharing and a few being twin-sharing. All beds are single beds with box beds, and you get a study table and a cupboard. Lighting in the rooms is inadequate, and you may need to use table lamps.
  • Bathrooms: The bathrooms are well-maintained, with separate areas for bathing, toilets, and wash basins. However, the lighting is not sufficient, and the plug points may not work.
  • Open drain: The hostel has a large open water drain behind it that leads to a lot of mosquitoes in the hostel. The common area on each floor overlooks the drain, and if you have a room with a balcony, it may open to the drain.

How are the hostels at NMIMS Mumbai?

Collegedunia Team
Raghav Somani

Sripend of 25000 is what is offered to final year students. Major corporate groups like Siemens, Adani Enterprises and Reliance Industries are the ones that offered us internships. I think one can't just learn from syllabus or books alone internships should be made mandatory.
