Course Curriculum Overview

4

The reason why I chose this course was because at orientation in my college, the professor of sociology explained it so well that I thought this is the most interesting field there is in arts. And for me, The curriculum for sociology is also very interesting. They sometimes take us to museum visits to understand the history better and also some short trips to local sightseeing and everything for fieldwork because sociology is mainly fieldwork and practical work. Every third year, there is a compulsory field trip that is a part of the course curriculum. The field trip is for one week. We go to a different city for a week, live there. A month ago, we did go to the field trip. The management was very good. We got the best hotel that was in that city. Exam is held every 6 months with ending of each semester of 1 year divided into 2 semesters. So every 6 months we have exam, The difficulty level is not very difficult. It's medium. If you are studying for it, even moderately, you will easily be able to crack it.Frequency is okay. As it happens in every college. Honestly there is no such area that i would like improvement in however the local trips that are held i would like them to happen often they get cancelled most of the times.

Internships Opportunities

2

For sociology course, the internship opportunities are... We have a lot of college tie-ups with a lot of NGOs. People opt for different NGOs to work with. Like CURE INDIA. As sociology is mostly research work, so NGOs are the only options we have. Apart from this we have socities to join

Placement Experience

1

Honestly, for sociology, in my college or any other college, there is no placement for mostly art students and also sociology. Sociology is a field that is based on research and there is no organization that essentially interviews and takes students from colleges that are from sociology. You will have to make your career in academics for it. That is why in our college, sociology students mostly are not getting any placement. However, there are three or four students who got placement, because they were also masters in other fields. Percentage of students I would say would be only 10% because you will have to study other fields to get placements in good companies. There are very good companies in our college coming for placements, but it's just our field that does not make it as given the reason above. My plans after the degree is that I will be doing postgraduate, as most sociology students do. They also opt for a PhD. I will be opting for postgraduation. After that, I will think about it further, also compete for government jobs.

Fees and Financial Aid

My course is for 3 yrs and in 1st yr i paid 10,000 then in 2nd yr i paid 11000 and for 3rd year i paid 12000. It was increasing by 1000 every year. Any other extra fee they take is for examination form which is 1000- 1500, every semester depending on different subjects. Fees for every catefory among my batchmates is the same. A lot of scholarship programs are available for people from weaker sections but i don't know much about it as I'm not eligible.

Campus Life

4

Our annual cultural fest is called Rhapsody that is held between February-April. The range of books are good, but they are of old edition. Should be added new editions to the library, I would say.Facilities are very good. Each classroom has projectors and a project board that is needed for it. Also, we have e-library where there are good quality laptops and computers so that students can study. We have Apple PCs in our e-library.That are newly installed. Before that we had HP laptops that are of old edition. We still have that. A lot of opportunities. I see my classmates opting for sports societies, dance societies, music societies, and they are doing very good at their fields. They mostly are involved in society and do not really come to classes. It's just their own choice.I see a lot of their societies, like debating societies, dance societies, music societies, sports societies, traveling to different cities as well for their interstate tournaments. The Different Societies is what is run by students and are passed by, given permission by our college principals. Last year, I was in Students Union social media team. That gave me a lot of exposure and I learned a lot of social media marketing, how is social media handled for a page, I learned that. All of our fests are organised by students with support and approvak of college authority.

Admission

I got accepted into this college through CUET, and Du assigns you your college according to your marks. This college is decent. I applied for every college there is in Du, but I didn't make it to the top colleges above this colleges because my marks were not that high. I could not study. I did not study enough to reach higher enough, so I got allotted this college. Admission process was very easy, it was all online. We submitted all our documents, essential documents to the colleges online, and then they verified it, then they took my admission.I like the admission experience because it was very easy and fast. However, being in this college for 3 years now, I actually like the college infrastructure better than other DU colleges, plus the faculty. As it is a girls college, I think that is why there is more discipline compared to co-ed colleges. Luckily, I have the nicest faculty there could be possible. I have actually no problem with the faculty, like honestly.Very happy with the experience I've had over the three years with this college.

Faculty

5

Every single one of our faculty in our department are good. Every one of them, everyone's teaching methods, their approach . They actually care about each and every student, at least in my department. They know all of the students' names that are in our batch.Actually, there is not any faculty that I don't like. Because every one of them has a different approach of teaching. And every single one of them are humble and kind enough to help each and every student. Whoever needs help, they are always, they are even very approachable, they have shared their personal numbers with us so that we can reach or contact them at any moment we like. There are 8 teachers in our department. Each had their turns teaching us every semester. So we know each and everyone, how they teach. Every one of them are kind. That is what I like the most about them. And lastly, the exams. The exams are not that hard. Obviously, if you are not studying, it is going to be hard for you. But the teachers also help us by providing previous year questions. They help us too with telling us how the questions are going to be in the question paper. Plus, they sometimes take our tests, give us assignments. That helps us a lot in cracking the exams.

Night Life

1

It is a girls college. There is no such nightlife in our college. The college premises, the main gate closes after 6 p.m. Our libraries are open until 5.30 p.m. And the e-library can at most be accessed till 5 p.m. After that, it is closed. The library is open till 5.30 p.m. I do not live in the college hostel. But those who live in the college hostel do roam around the campus. But their gate closes after 6 p.m. Popular hangout spots in my college would be the cafeteria and also the flower garden. We, our college, have a lot of greenery and flowers and parks and gardens. People mostly like to sit in gardens, watching the flowers and plants, clicking photos. It is safe to roam in side our college campus but not outside as it is in Delhi and nightlife in Delhi for girls is not really safe. Most famous area outside our college is Satyaniketan, which is approximately 700 meters walking distance. We usually walk or take autos to Satyaniketan to eat. Satyaniketan is hub of PGs.

Area that should be improved that is treat every student similarly without any discrimination. Faculty don't even tdke action on sol, IGNOU and NCWEB students. So I think it should be improved firstly.

The course curriculum is relevant to the current aspects of real world. It is also very focused on the practical component of the subject and helps us know how to apply our theoretical concepts in real life. Aspects that influenced me were: the practicality, the relatibiltiy of concepts and the testing approaches as well.

Placement Experience:

Since i am 2nd year myself, hearing from seniors, seeing placement cell activities and reading reports, placement at ipcw are decent but far from perfect. The placement drive is not as huge or reliable as some commerce Acc. to the nirf report, for ug courses out of 1204 eligible students 118 got placed, which is roughly 9-10, for pg course, out of 100 eligible students only 6 got placed. Median package for UG was 6.20 lakhs per annum, and for pg is 6.7 lakhs per annum. In earlier years (2022-23) , median UG package was higher. The highest package went to 23 lakhs per annum which was quite impressive. It was from DE Show and co., Wipro, Capgeminie etc. there are regular recruiters like DE. Shaw abd co.,Wipro, Capegemini, Godrej properties, Sirion Labs etc. What i feel personaly as an eco hons. student unless i build extra i cant really expect placement. Masters and competetive exams are next option
