Course Curriculum Overview

4

I honestly wanted to take M. tech but since i have done my graduation in bsc physics hons. i can only opt for msc physics. The curriculum is really packed. you have to complete a lot of things in the duration of 3 months. the grading system is relative. so basically the passing marks vary according to the highest mark scroed by student in class. there is core subjects and electives in every sem. you have to select 2 electives in each semester. mid sem occurs every 1 and half month. Also they are not at all lenient on giving marks to students. sometimes teachers will provide problem sheet and questions to solve but they wont provide you answers. some teachers may also give you notes of their lectures but you have to make your own notes in class. also you should maintain at least 75% attendance to appear in exam. Exams occur frequently like there is class tests, quizes and assignments which will contribute to your internal marks. the second year will be all about your project work with 2 electives and no core subjects. at the end of 1st year you have to submit a mini project report and presentation. in second year you have write your msc thesis report followed by paper publishing if possible. You can apply for conferances abroad or in nitc. there will be opportunity for applying for phd abroad but honestly you have to look for it yourself and apply. should have good relation with your guide and FA for recommendation letter.

Internships Opportunities

5

I had applied for many internships. and got selected for internship at NISER, Bhubaneswar. have to first apply then get a bonafied certificate. also have to ask your FA and guide for reccomendation letter. Then you are good to go. i did for the period of 2 monthes at Niser. i did lab work and at the end of the internship i submited a report and gave presentation. after sucessful completion i received a certificate from the institution.

Placement Experience

4

after completion of 1st year msc or mtech and 4th year btech students are eligible for applying for campus. there will be separate app genskill, which is only for nitc students through which placements will come. we have to fill all our details, CV, qualifications and CGPA and SGPA of all the semesters. then companies will come accroding to your profile. if you are elligle then can apply for that job. they might conduct exam and interview in campus and will select. There rae so many tech companies like Intel and IT software companies, some are start ups, banks like federal union, sometimes coaching centres like Sri chaitanya, teaching jobs and trade related salesman and HR position jobs etc comes. big companies like intel provides 27LPA and some software companies provide 32LPA. At least 6-7 CGPA they require. most of tech students get placed compared to msc students. MSC. chemistry students has high scope as most of the industries ask for chemistry degree. some of my chemistry friends got selected in intel with 27LPA. My plan after completing MSc will be to do a govt. job. I ve already applied for some govt jobs and also for some placements in genskill. I have no interest in doing research but most of my friends going for research.

Fees and Financial Aid

I took admission as a self sponsered student in NITC, so the fee structure is a bit high compared to those who came through CCMN. for 1st semester tuition fee was 72900 rs, hostel is 55000 rs which includes bed rent, mess fee and hostel establishment fee. 2nd semester the tutition fee reduced to 28000 rs and the hostel and hostel was 33000 rs. for the 3rd semester tution was 37000 rs and hostel 33000 rs. for 4th sem it was 43000 rs and hostel 33000 rs again. now if you came through CCMN, general candidates pay tuition fee around 25-30K and hostel is same for everyone. for SC/ST the tuition fee is around 15k and hostel same for everyone. the 1st semester you have to pat extra and then it reduces. the fee structure obviously increases year wise.

Campus Life

4

Almost every festival is celebrated here but the biggest one will still be onam for kerala people here. The whole college participates, there will be cultural programs and shadhya (the food they eat during onam) with at least 12 varieties of food items. There is diwali, dushahera and chirstmas celebration. And there is also Tatva and Ragam celebration here. these are like anual functions, occurs at least once in a year. they will call bolywood singers every year and some local DJ and artists to perform. concerts and DJ night will go on for the whole night with food, enetertainment etc. There is also anual sportsmeet, where students participates. volley ball, basket ball, badminton etc are some of the popular sports where students participate. There is a central libraray in campus, student can access. they can borrow books and renew it every month. There will be different journals like wileys and ACS etc. research papers, reports etc everything can be accessed through NITC mail id as NITC has acess to these journals and publications. There are different clubs, sports club, arts club, drama club etc. you can join and participate in events of your choice. there are also skill development clubs for coding and programming, graphic designing, etc.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel rooms are good, varies as per which hostel you are staying. you can either choose for single room or sharing for two. but availiability of single rooms are very small. you wont be getting any single room in first year but you can choose in the second year. for girls, you have to share a room with your roomamte. the rooms are okay okay. not that big. there will be two study tables and chairs. one cupboard that you have to share. one fan and a big window. there will be charging point only in one side of the bed. in MHB hostel there will be wifi routers in every room and a full length mirror. there will be bathroom in every floor that you have to share. 3 bathrooms and 3 toilrt rooms. water purifier will be there in every floor. there are at least one mess in in eevry hostel. menu is different for every day. there will be a lot of varities. you can choose whatever you want to eat. there will be chicken, paneer, fruits, dal, egg bhruji, omlet, veg curry, sambar, achar, papad etc. you either take veg or nonveg. Hostel registration happens in hostel office of nitc. you have toapply for hostel when you are applying for the college.

Admission

i qualified JAM 2023, so i got a few good colleges to apply. i applied for CCMN counselling in all NITs and got selected for NIT Nagpur in my first round, 2nd round I got NIT calicut, and at special round i got IIST shibpur. I wanted to get into NIT Rourkela but i didn't get that so i chose to go for NIT Calicut instead from suggestion of my friends that said this is better than others. The admission process is quite simple, all the students have to report on the physical reporting date previously given after you get the institute through CCMN. But since i surrendered my seat for the special round i had to apply in self sponser scheme instead. I had to write an application to the dean which forwarded to the Director. after the approval of the Director, i got admission. I did my physical reporting as they have given. verified all my documents asked physically. then got my college mail ID.

Faculty

4

In our Physics department there are almost 25 faculties in different branches of physics. and in our class there is total 33 students. students can directly approach their faculty advisor (class teacher) and discuss their queries. i personally like our faculty advisor, Dr. N yogesh (asst. professor). He is one of the best teacher one could ever ask for. he is supportive, friendly and encourages students to do something in their life. replies mails and messages very quickly. There are others faculties like my guide/HoD Dr. Veri sivaji reddy in my research thesis. There are always some teachers you wont like in everywhere, i wont take their names. some teachers will take it to their ego and will publicly humilate you in conferance or presentation. so be aware of them. Almost evryone pass the final exam. but if there is backlog you have to repeat the whole course for 6 months and then appear for exam. corurse curriculum matches with GATE and NET syllabus. just you have to prepare questions and solve it. to qualify it.

Night Life

5

There is avilability of Gym, cafeteria like milma inside evry hostel. Study room is available in every floor that student can use 24/7. for internet connection WiFi routers are installed in every room. there are at least 5 hostels in here. A,B,C,D,E,F hostels for boys. G hostel and MLH ladis hostel for girls. MHB hostel for both boys abd girls in different blocks. 12:30 am midnight is the returning time after which hostel gates will be closed both for girls and boys. there are so many hiding spots and ways you can get out of campus without getting noticed at night. just know that after 12:30 you cant come late. if you come late more than 3 times then you have to pay finr of 1000rs and 5000rs 4th and 5th time after this you will be restricated from the hostel. but late night outs are the most fun.

I choosed to study msc applied psychology in kerala university. Because it offers my interested specialization ( organizational behaviour) . The course provides three specializations - clinical , industrial and educational. As it is applied psychology it equipes us to become more practical.I wish the placement cell to be more efficient in our university. Because the placements they offers are limited
