Life at IITPKD

JEE Rank was the main factor. The facilities like hostel, labs, etc mentioned in the IIT Palakkad website. During the allotment process, one senior girl student of my branch contacted me and cleared all my doubts whether it was small or big, placement details, etc. After the rankings were released, based on the previous years cut-off ranks, I was able to get a fair idea about the colleges I would be able to join among all the IITs, NITs, IIITs. Based on JEE Mains rankings, NIT or IIITs can be chosen. Based on JEE Advance ranking, IIT can be chosen. Also, 2 mock allotment will take place which gives a fair idea of which allotment we will get. These mock allotment will be based on our preferences. We can change them after the mock. Then the actual allotment will start. Once we finalise our preferences and lock them, there will be 7 rounds of allocation. 3 options will be given in each round-Float, Freeze,Slide (details will be clearly mentioned in the website). Once you are allocated a seat in any round, document verification will take place (seat acceptance fee must be paid at this stage).

I chose CSE course based on my interest and also placements. All the faculties are really helpful and there's a lot to learn from if one desires. They are technically sound and have a lot of experience in their fields. Faculties are approachable at all times. They are ready to understand our problem and help us in any way possible. All faculties are highly qualified (PhD, etc.details can be found in IITPkd official website). There were usually two quizzes and then a term exam, but it varies to each courses (Continuous evaluation or project, etc).

Please refer to the cdc report in the official website of the IITPkd for detailed information about the companies visited, number of students who were placed, etc. Placements were good this year, even though COVID was prevalent. A good number of companies did offer jobs. The sole purpose of Career Development Cell is to get jobs to all those students searching for it. All the CDC members work really hard for the same.

Petrichor is the annual technical and cultural fest. A library is present in both Ahalya and Nola campus with all the required materials and journals. Sportacus, a 2 day sport event is conducted yearly. Virtual events were conducted during COVID. NSS, NSO, UBA, Social Initiative Team, LiGHT Palakkad are few groups to join if one is interested in social activities. There are many student run clubs like Akshar (literary club), Robotics, YACC(coding club), Shutterbug(photography), Novare(adventure activities club), Automative Club, etc to name a few.

Hostel was really good with all the facilities. No complaints about the hostel life. Adjusting to mess took some time, but it was fine. Students have a say in the mess meetings and issues can be brought up and resolved. We used to look forward for the monthly feasts (especially Dosa feast) by the mess.
