Course Curriculum Overview

4

The couse is well designed to understand the real world applications and is designed in a way that all the subjects we read from the first year just pile up and help us build concept the chronological order is actually very good. The exams and the paper checking are a bit tough but contrary to that the marking scheme is relative so iti depends upon who scores the most.

Placement Experience

4

Students in 7th and 8th semester are eligible to sit for campus placements. Companies like Oracle, Goldman Sachs, L&T, Bajaj, Caterpillar and PSU's like BEL,HPCL and BPCL come to the college usually the coding companies offer aroung 35-40 LPA CTC and the core PSU companies offer around 17-18 LPA. Highest Package is 51 LPA and an Average Package of 12 LPA. Nearly 85% students from Circuit and CS branch get placed and around 60% in core branches who sit for placements, My plans after getting the degree is to join MBA to learn how business world works and how the money flows

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure at NIT Calicut is designed to be inclusive, with significant financial aid based on income and social category. The standard annual tuition fee is 1,25,000/-. Upon admission, all students pay a one-time fee of 53000/-, which covers a refundable caution deposit of 20,000/-, admission, development and charges, Additionally there are semester fees for regestration, exam and campus facilities, plus an annual hostel rent of 18,000/-. There are three Proper Badminton courts and a big Cricket ground, football ground ans hockey ground to play with also volley ball and handball spaces. There are many different type of Clubs Including technical and cultural clubs which increases interaction from student to student.

Hostel Facilities

5

We get a well equipped room with good ventilation and proper cupboards, One bed and a study table with chair you either have LAN connection or Wi-Fi in your room. The quality of food is okay does not reach expectations but for a hostel it is good. We have NITC Hostels App where room and mess allotment happens. These are many nearby PG's in kattangal and mukkam to stay if you don't want to stay in campus.

Admission

I wanted to get into Mechanical Engineering in any of the top NIT's so applied for all the NIT's in the NIRF ranking order with mechanical in every college so after the counselling happened to get into NIT Calicut. The admission process is through JoSAA Counselling where students come to the college after getting alloted but before that the student needs to clear the JEE Main Exam to get admitted into the college. And one has to do PCM in their 12th. Cutoff is Generally Between 97-98.5 percentile for General Student to get Mechanical Engineering

Faculty

5

The faculty to student ratio is around 1:15 to 1:20. Generally faculty relationship is good and approachable especially during office hours and lab sessions. Likes Dr.Jacob Koshy Sir for his way of teaching and his calmness in answering the questions and Dr.Nidhi baranwal mam for her way of explaining things. There is no one I don't like everyone is approachable There are Mid-Semester exams of 30 marks and Internals which has assignments, projects and quizzes of 20 marks and in the End the End-Semester Exam for 50 Marks. The paper level is made to the top level and consider the difficulty the paper is moderate to difficult. Depending on the subject the number of students fail does vary. Like Thermodynamics has nearly 50 failures out of 220 and some easy subjects like Fluid machinery had 20 failures

Night Life

5

There is a In-Campus GYM which is okay but another GYM located at Mega Hostel boys is a very big GYM equipped with proper setup, there are many cafeterias inside campus like Milma Hotel,Cochin Bakery, Amul Shop and the kattangal area has everything you need. Library closes at 12 and there is a very big computer center to study. Hostel timings only for 1st years after that no timings. Places like Bake House, Food Bang, Juice arena etc and yes it's safe to roam outside at night.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would rate the EEE course curriculum around 8-8.5 /10 in terms of relevance. The curriculum provides strong fundamentals in core electrical engineering subjects and prepares students well for core jobs and higher studies. The course curriculum was revised in 2023, and our batch is the 1st batch under the new curriculum. however, there are still limited coding ,AI and data science subjects in EEE ,which could be improved. Exams are conducted times per semester and are generally moderately difficult.

Placement Experience:

The placements here are quite good, but not great. Because only 50% of students in a class are getting placed. From S7 onwards the placements have been started for our department. But for other departments, from S8 only companies have arrived. For CSE department, many companies are coming which include Cognizant, SOTI, Mitsogo, EY, 6D Technologies, etc. Our senior batch students have placed at many companies in this. But comparing with other senior batches, the placements at our batch is really bad.
