Course Curriculum Overview

5

This curriculum not only focuses on subjective knowledge but practical knowledge is a very important aspect of this curriculum, apart from practical knowledge, it focuses on personality development of a cadet and makes them ready to be officers tomorrow, the exams are moderate level and could be cleared easily if daily a little effort is given. The practical knowledge given makes the cadets ready to operate the machinery present at the engine room in a ship.

Internships Opportunities

5

There are various companies that provide internships to the cadets, the oppurtunities are not only restricted to marine field even cadets are given an oppurtunity to have exposure to field relevant to marine, this year bails logistics was one the company that gave internships oppurtunities for the logistics field.

Placement Experience

5

Placement ratio of the college is very good, cadets start getting placements from 2nd year but majorly the mass placement process starts from 3rd year. The packages ranges from 400-1200 USD as an engine cadet. There are major companies such as CHEVRON, MSC, DYNAGAS, NYK, FLEET MANAGEMENT, PACIFIC BASIN, MOL, IOCL, ZODIAC MARITIME, TORM TANKERS, etc that visit the college for placements every year. For every batch the placement ratio is above 95%. This college is known for its placements and alumni network

Fees and Financial Aid

The total course fees is 11 lacs for 4 years which means 2.75 lacs per year (this includes everything hostel, academics, mess, etc), no extra fees has to be paid for placements and internships everything is provided by the college. The fees is same for all irrespective of the category, however there are scholarships of state and central government available for the students. The scholarships range between 50000-300000, the amount of scholarship may vary according to the catergory and financial conditions. The fees is very reasonable compared to other colleges that provide for marine engineering. NOTE a sum of 30000 is to be paid as caution deposit

Campus Life

5

About the infrastructure, there are AC classrooms, WIFI available in the academic block, Big library, Swimming pool, every hostel has its gym, playground and courts. There are a wide range of books available in the library. Two major fests are held every year TEMPEST(Asia's largest marine fest) and Lit-o-sphere. However, there are regular workshops and weekend meets there for the cadets to know the field better and have as much as exposure. The campus has India's largest marine workshop. There are a wide range of sports available for the cadets such as Cricket, Volleyball, Football, Badminton, Basketball, Hockey, etc.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostel facility is very good in first year there is a room of 6, in 2nd year room of 2, in 3rd year room of 4-6, in 4th year single cabins are provided. The hostel fees is included in the course fees and hostel is compulsory for all as it is an residential course. The food of the mess is good but there is less variety. 95 % of cadets are those who are from outside, so there is no communal or social challenges that an outsider has to face in the hostel.

Admission

I have searched for many other colleges but i chose this because it is the oldest marine engineering college and has a benchmark legacy, and this college has shaped the merchant navy of the nation. It has been known for producing the finest marine engineers. I preffered marine engineering over other courses because this is a type of training that ensures your wholesome development. The placement ratio of this college is very good and this college provides a good exposure of the field and has internships oppurtunities from 2nd year itself and provides for additional courses to improve skills as an officer and develop aptitude as an engineer.

Faculty

4

For marine related subjects there are officer faculties and all the faculties are good. There are tests held in a month or two and then the semester exams. The syllabus followed is set by IMU according to the standards of IMO(international maritime organisation). Genrally, 90% of the batch passes the exams, the curriculum is very relevant to the field.

Night Life

4

The college is a bit far from the main kolkata but has a good connectivity to the city, there are various famous places to visit around the campus. The nightlife around the campus is safe and the in and out timings are strict for all the male and female cadets.

I think more practical based an implement based curriculam should be added rather than more theorital subs. Most case college is form 9am -5 pm Like (9-5 job) .

Students generally start getting their pre-placement offers from their 3rd year after completion of their internships other students gets their placement too in their final year. Starting from Apple to Google and Microsoft too hired some of our senior but the number of the students get placed in those tech giant companies is very less but there are mass recruiters too like TCS infosys PW chaitanya education TATA steel BHARAT petroleum and many other companies the offers are made based upon the eligibility of the students and the packages are decided based on the skillset and experience of the students . Highest package was 70 LPA this year and the average packages are also pretty good based upom the companies and their offers it ranges from 15-30 LPA .Almost 80-83% students gets placed but it depends on the branch of the students and their skillsets.I want to sit for GATE exam after completion of my BTech and want to persue MTech
