Course Curriculum Overview
The specific aspects which influenced me to choose this course are : This profession has the highest paid salary as compared to other profession. The curriculum prepares for the real world application because this course has a lot of practical knowledge to gain which is needed in this profession. The areas which is needed to be improved is adding more practical skills to the course. Timing for semester examination are sufficient and difficulty level is moderate.
Internships Opportunities
The companies which provides internship are INS Shivaji, Manglore Port and other Port authority in the college. Many projects are available in the college itself, students engage themselves in various activities.
Placement Experience
The placement of the college is really good and almost 90% students get placed till final year. There are several companies which visit the campus for placement they are NYK Shipping, MSC, Dynagas, etc. The average package is 500 dollars per month and the highest package is 1500 dollars per month. Almost 90% students get placed in this course from this college. My plans is to get placed in a good company and continue my job.
Fees and Financial Aid
The yearly fees for BTech marine engineering is ?225000 which includes the tuition fees, hostel fees and other fees. The caution fees is ?20000 which is one time paid during the admission. The fees for every student is same, fees doesn't depends on category in this college. Indian Maritime University provides DMET Alumni Scholarship of ?50000 to one student who has good academic records and less family income.
Campus Life
The annual fest conducted in our college is Tempest which is Asia's biggest marine fest which is conducted in the month of February every year. The availability of books are good and almost every book is available in the college library. The sports facilities is really good in this college. There are groups named Enigma, in this college.
Admission
I have cleared JEE Advanced and I got an opportunity to take admission in IIST Trivandrum, but I didn't take admission there because merchant navy was my first priority and it was my dream course. No I didn't get rejected from any colleges. The admission process is simple, you should have atleast 60% marks in PCM 12th and you have to clear IMU CET examination for taking admission in Indian Maritime University Kolkata.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is good, there is individual faculty for every subjects. The faculty which I like personally is Professor Milton Kumar Das Sir because he is very understanding and his teaching method is really good as compared to other faculty. The faculty which I don't like is Professor Nitin Pawar, because his teaching method is not good as compared to others. There are total 8 semester examination and the difficulty level is moderate. Almost 75% students clear the semester examination in first attempt and the remaining students clear the examination in supplementary examination.
Night Life
Gym is available inside the campus, library is available and closing time is 18:00 hours daily. Campus in timing is 8:00 am and Campus out timing is 20:00 hours. Famous hangout place is IMU KC cafeteria which is inside the college premises. The locality is safe to roam around and also police station is available near to the college only.
