Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum for my course IT has been aptly modified as per the current age and demands and the same can be said for all other branches. Every 2 or 3 years the course is updated accordingly. For example, things like AI, big data, and cloud computing have been integrated into our course and will be taught towards the end of 3rd year. The curriculum prepares us just enough for real-world applications like most Indian institution does including IITs, however students have to learn a couple of other technologies, frameworks, and concepts on their end and this can be seen as a drawback of not just our college but the entire Indian engineering curriculum. Especially, in a field like software that is undergoing rapid change and updation every single day, curriculum needs to be revolutionized to keep up with the change.Exams follow the typical semester cycle and are moderate to tough.

Internships Opportunities

5

Companies like Google , Wells Fargo , Intuit , Salesforce , Oracle , SAP , TCS etc. hire mostly for SDE role/ software testing role/ developer like that and the stipend is accordingly as per the general norm . ZS , PWC , Delloite , EY, Accenture often hire for business technical assossiate in addition to consultant roles . Core companies like Siemens , Reliance Oil Industries , Texas Instruments etc. come for recruiting core branch students and the stipend is accordingly .

Placement Experience

4

A robust intern season is there for 3rd year students and many of our students take part in that provided that they had put enough effort in their studies in the past 2 college years and academics . Several of those internees do get a PPO offer after that. Companies like DeShaw , WellsFargo , Salesforce , Texas Instruments, Intuit , JP Morgan and Oracle are some of the big names recruiting each year. FAANG also come every 1 or 2 years but whenver they come the competition is cuthroat for them within the campus obviously . Several students make through these and other big companies like this via off-campus every year . The average salary of CSE and IT is around 21 LPA , in 2022 it was a record high of around 28 LPA . For core it is around 11-15 LPA . About 95% of the students get placed each year , in some core branches like mechanical it reached a record 100% this year . Highest packages in most circuital branches regularly exceed 50 LPA, in branches like IT, CSE and ECE it often exceeds even 1CPA . I have a regular plan of getting placed in a decent company after my degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

Jadavpur University is as good as IITs but still considering the fees and all other charges it's just 30000.The government and college itself have a lot of scholarship programs and students can easily avail of those scholarships by providing necessary documents.

Campus Life

4

Srijan is a huge tech fest that often takes place in the month of March and is one of its unique kind in Eastern India. The interesting fact is that there are no participation fees for students , the scale of the fest is huge and it attracts students from colleges across Kolkata. Sanksriti is another colourful and lively fest that takes place at Jadavpur campus. Apart from these there are numerous departmental fests , campus fests , alumni reunion events , technical sessions etc. The library has a great collection of books in both the campuses , it is just humongous in case of the Jadavpur campus with a rich , diverse collection of some rare and numerous books . The Salt lake campus also has a good enough , organized collection , the books are accessible easily as per certain guidelines . Facilities are decent in the classroom. Sports facilities are just near average as of now , however the ground is superb here at the Salt Lake campus . Various active clubs and socities are present and they help a student to explore new areas and gain varied experience and confidence . Coding club , Mechatronics club , Finance and Consulting Club , Mathematical Society , Astroscience Club , Film Society , Mountaineering Club and IEEE student section are some of the most famous ones among them .

Admission

I applied to several other NITs in JOSAA itself based on my preferences and finally got NIT AGARTALA CSE and my admission was almost confirmed there. But ,then I was able to get IT in JU ,WBJEE counselling started later than JOSAA so i got that update much later otherwise I would have directly taken my admision at JU in the first place. To get admission in my College one needs to give WBJEE and do well enough in that. For domicile students under 1000 WBJEE rank would open doors for several circuital branches ,the rank required is even lower for SC ,ST and TFW ones since there is like about 90% reservation for home state students in JU seats, thus for non domicile people competition is cut-throat and they need ranks under 500 or 600 for the same. For CSE a rank under 150 may work for the domicile people and a rank under 100 or 50 for the non domicile, and a similar trend can be understood manually for the next two most sought after branches-ECE and IT.Admission experience is decent and smooth provided you come with all the required documents and even more to be in the safer zone .

Faculty

4

Faculty to student ratio is much better than most engineering colleges. It is about 1:10.Many of the faculties have taught in IITs,IIESERs and other technical institutions in the past and many have done their Phds from Ivy league universities .A handful of our professors had been shortlisted in Top 100 teachers across world based on research publications that was given by Stanford .Like every collge, some faculties are bound to be there who are not that popular among students. But most of the professors are very humble and approachable.Exams are very standard and moderate to tough. The standard semester system is also followed here. The course curriculum is NBA accredited and at par with most premier engineering institutions across the country.

Night Life

3

Gym is just ok as of now , there are not enough facilities for everyone if multiple people come for gym at once after a certain small limit . There are several cafterias in and outside of the Jadavpur Campus. The Salt Lake Campus however has only one medium sized cafteria inside campus and some other stalls are present outside campus . Hostel has some strict timings , but I cannot tell in much detail since I am not a hosteller . The first class starts at 10.00 AM generally and the last class ends at 5.30 PM on most days . But as much as I have heard the hostel facilities are just enough .As the college lies in the heart of Kolkata there are numerous places to hangout owing to the great transportation facilities . There are also certain good places to hang out inside the Jadavpur campus as well . The locality is expected to be safe enough to roam around at night but I would not advise to do the same late night and I cannot 100% vouch for safety regarding that .

Other Applied Colleges

National Institute of Technology - [NIT] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)

I observed that the average package of IT at JU is much higher than NIT Agartala and also the percentage student placement and ofcourse college fees is much less.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Regarding examination the frequency is generally acceptable but the timing sometimes overlaps with project submission, creating unnecessary pressure. Exam duration is of 3hrs They should focus more on building projects which can be helpful for students Labs are modern and well equipped In terms of teaching methods a shift towards interactive learning, problem based assignments, hackathons and collaborative projects could make the learning experience more impactful. More emphasis on research and innovation at the undergraduate level could also encourage academic pursuits.

The curriculum is pretty helpful and the additional competitions such as hackathons and codathons are really helpful. the frequency of the exam is consisteny the timing is provided when the academic calendar is out.
