Course Curriculum Overview
I had always wanted to explore the economic part of the country, and hence I went ahead with this course. Jadavpur University with their expert faculty was the best of the choices I had. The curriculum focus on a lot of case studies and there are plenty of field visits for audit reporting as well. The curriculum is well detailed as per the industry 5.0 and focuses on job placements as well. The econometrics faculty can be improved a lot, however other areas of focus are classroom infrastructure which could be made a bit better. There are monthly assessments and fortnightly assessments with end semester exams with internal exams conducted on a regular basis.
Internships Opportunities
Companies like Ernst and Young, Bain, BCG, McKinsey visit the college for various economics related roles, investment specialist profiles and also for projects related to financial, accountant, and equity analyst profiles with pakages ranging from 10LPA to 1.5CPA. Their projects include various equity market analysis roles and travelling around to meet client expenses. The students are also offered onsite opportunities during the time of their employment.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for applying for internships after the 3rd semester, and students can apply for placements only after 4th semester. Companies like Ericsson, Ernst and Young, JPMG makes visits our department for mostly analyst roles for economic and fundamental trading decisions. The highest offer made was 45LPA while the average is 7.5LPA. The median pakage is 8LPA. Almost 90% students secure placements after completing their degree since the Training and placement cell is pretty proactive in securing good company visits. I plan for investing and analyst roles in banking companies. I would sit for placements hoping for the same.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year wise fee structure is 2500 including all admission, registration and all other necessary costs of the university. The tuition fees is 1200 rupees and the rest are all other expenses like admission, caution money, one time deposit, etc. There is no union fees, however there are certain fees related to fests, etc which vary every year. There are scholarships like SVMCM and MCM granted to students who complete a minimum iota of need and then there rae industry specific scholarships granted to students on need basis.
Campus Life
There are two fests conducted in my university, One is the techno fest Srijan, the second is the cultural fest Sanskriti. The former is conducted at around February, while the later is conducted around December. The library has a wide range of books with a range of 35000 books, 10000 journals, and variety of magazines and research publications. There are abundant books available in our library for students to refer to for completing their thesis. There are computers available in the library for digital access to journals. The university also puts an emphasis on sports facilities with proper sports rooms and sports events conducted every week. There are music clubs, art clubs, coding clubs, placement contact clubs, etc for students to participate.
Admission
1) I applied for Delhi School of Economics, however couldn't manage an admission due to the extreme cutoff on CUET exam for the same. I had confirmed admission from North Bengal University, however it was not feasible since I had a choice in Jadavpur University. Jadavpur University has the best rank among all other colleges I had a confirmed admission to, so I chose this University. 2) I wanted to study in Delhi School of Economics, but couldn't make it there due to the extensive cutoff in CUET which I unfortunately couldn't clear. 3) Jadavpur University conducts its own internal exam for admission into its esteemed Masters of Arts [M.A.] programme. However one can get through by CUET exams as well, however that needs a decent score. The cutoff in the internal exam is around 70% for General Category and for CUET, the cutoff varies yearly.
Faculty
The faculty student ratio is around 1:45. The faculty is very approachable and provides proper emphasis on students with delivery up to the mark. They make sure the curios points in the lecture is properly addressed by conducting proper doubt clearance sessiona and provides best guidance. The faculty of economics could have improved a bit including a proper on econometrics faculty. There are internal exams conducted and viva-voce methods are common examination methods in my university. 90% students clear the exams, backlog students have to give the exam in the 1 next semester as per university norms.
Interview Experience
There were no such questions asked in GD, however there were questions such as reason for studying in the university, etc. The process of admission involved admission into the university by CUET or by their internal exam for admission into their Masters in Arts department. It required normal preparation using the most recent questions of CUET. The entrance was easy.
Night Life
There is a gymkhana in the university hostel for students to excercise, since JU is located in the heart of kolkata, there are hangout places like cafe coffee day, South city mall in proximity for students to hangout in their free time. Boys hostel has a final time of 8:30pm and girls hostels it is 7:30 pm, however they are pretty flexible. Famous places to hangout include mashir dokan and small eat outlets near the gate number 3.
