The curriculum is very experimental and dynamic. Comparative literature trains a learner for wider horizons. JUCL prepares its graduates wonderfully for real-world applications, higher studies, and research. The areas for improvements in teh course curriculum that need improving are addition of resources. The last question has been answered earlier.

Campus Life

5

AFSU Sanskriti, FETSU Sanskriti, and SFSU Sanskriti are the annual fests of Jadavpur Unibersity. The Central Library is the main library of the campus with a wide and diverse range of books, journals, magazines, and online reading materials. Each department has their own departmental library which offers membership to all students on campus, and also former students of JU. Jadavpur University has facilities for sports such as cricket, football, rugby, and basketball. There are also many clubs and groups authorised by the university such as the mountaineering club, chess club, photography club, debate club, Mock United Nations, drama club, dance forum, and film society.

Admission

I did not apply to any other college or university for my Master's degree. I only wrote the entrance exams at Jadavpur University in the departments of Comparative Literature, English, and Linguistics. I cracked the exams for both CL and Linguistics, and decided to take admission in the former. The admission process at the Master's level in Jadavpur University is highly competitive, considering the number of applicants, which is often around a thousand. Any Bachelor's degree holder from any stream is eligible to write the entrance exam, provided they have secured at least 50% marks in their undergrad degree exam. The cutoffs and ranks vary every year depending on the entrance exam results.

Faculty

5

The faculty-student ratio is fairly high here. The faculty to student relationship is very good and approachable. The name of the faculty member I liked the most is the late Professor Samantak Das. He taught me how education has no substitute. There is no faculty member I did not like in my university. There are no fixed number of Internal Assessments (usually raning from 5 to 20 marks), and four semester exams each for all modules in 2 years. The exams are not difficult provided a student studies dilligently. Hardly anybody fails. The course is extremely relevant and pertinent to the curriculum.

Night Life

3

Jadavpur University has its own gymkhana near Gate 2. There are several canteens and libraries strewn across campus. Hostel timings (both boys' and girls' hostels): 7 AM to 10 PM Campus is open 24*7 Famous hangout places are Milan Da's canteen, Green Zone, World View or Subarna Jayanti Bhavan, Main Building, Staff Canteen, Football field, OAT, and Jheel Paar. The locality is rather safe to roam at night.

Course Curriculum Overview:

So, we read great authors like Mulvey, Kafka, Eliot, Plath, Toni Morisson amongst others. The works provided a deep insight on the working of the world, how brutal and harsh the reality is and how we can overcome these. The course helped the students in the humanitarian understanding of human and emotions which I guess is lacking in today's world. The exams were held after 3-4 months for the semester

Presidency University, Master of Arts [MA] (Political Science)
Reviewed on Jan 12, 2024(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

This university has a widespread name for generations and so the courses taught here must be for not only students' academic excellence but also for their personality building. My course 'Political Science' has created my kin interest to study the subject in later life and when it comes with the name of Presidency University, it always offers better prospects for students. The faculties are very co-operative, responsible and student friendly except few in our particular department. The faculty-student ratio is 3:50. Most of the faculties believe in teaching in unconventional method, so they organize experimental modes for Internal assessment, exams and teaching courses. However the university has its biggest problem hidden in its untimely routine of completing syllabus and conducting exams or internals. Term exams are conducted just before the exams which is inconvenient, however the exams in our department are not too difficult to pass. The faculties give pass marks to all students.
