Course Curriculum Overview

4

I have always believed that my course was a mixture of subjects from Economics hons and BCom hons. I have studied subjects like microeconomics, microeconomics, statistics, econometrics along with accounts, marketing, security analysis and even business law and corporate finance. While the course structure includes all the essential and hoid elements of the Eco and BCom, I felt it still lacked practical knowledge and industry driven skills. I think that is changing with the introduction of New Education Policy reforms. Examinations happened twice a year as DU follows Semester system. I felt the exams were a generous balance of difficult and easy. Teachers would tell us important topics which proved very helpful in exams. Scoring was also not that difficult.

Internships Opportunities

3

A lot of intrlernship opportunities came during my three years at Khalsa. Large corporations like Earnst and Young and Accenture to start ups. A plethora of different roles were offered for instance data analyst, HR operations, business analyst, subject matter expert, business development, marketing, public relations, Account manager, social work interns, traching interns etc. There were paid as well as unpaid internahips offering great work experience and industry insights. A lot of recruiters were from consultancy firms. These internahips would help students find their field of interest and also land them some pocket money if the opportunity is a paid one. There were not many projects or research papers that students could be a part of.

Placement Experience

4

Campus placement is offered at Khalsa. There is a dedicated placement cell that works tirelessly to look for good internship as well as placement opportunities. Recruitment starts from the fifth semester itself which marks the beginning of the third and final year of college. Companies like Earnst and Young and Accenture among others were a part of several others last year. Job profiles for my course ranged from data analytics and maraket analytics to business development to even teaching jobs. Though in these competitive times a lot of students did struggle a lot to land a decent job. There were ample opportunities from not only startups but larger corporations as well. I believe it is utmost important to do meaningful internships to land jobs in this competitive world. Placement opportunities were there but because of lack of proper industry ready training a lot of students could not get jobs.

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fees is about Rs 42000 and it generally does not increase much. This does not include exam fees of Rs 500 which is to be paid each semester during exam registration. Fee for other course is even lesser than the fees for my course. The fees would be lower for students from reserved categories though i do not know the margin because i belong to the unreserved category. Financial benefits program is also there in the college and happens annually because fees is also paid annually. Anybody who is facing any financial crunch abd cannot pay the fees can simply fill the designated form and get adequate refund for the fees or a complete waiver if the situation so demands. Apart from that there are other scholarships that can be availed. I believe the fees is quite affordable in comparison to many other colleges whether private or semi private where the fees can go upto several lakhs on an yearly basis.

Campus Life

3

Lashkara is the annual fest of Khalsa and it takes place every year. Apart from that throughout the year many other events also take place that are organised by student run societies. Though the authorities are quite strict in providing permission for holding sich events in the college premises. Khalsa did not have as many events as other North Campus colleges however being in Khalsa one could always just walk to other colleges and attend cultural events there. The library is well stocked with latest edition of books. Khalsa has a big ground and a separate basket ball court. There are many student run societies engaged in theatre, music, social work and even one for kirtan. Also bhandara was regularly organised in the premises to celebrate Sikh festivals and the food was always delicious. Infrastructure is decent and maintained. Overall it is a good enough college.

Admission

During the admission process I had initially applied to Janki Devi Memorial College, New Delhi in the first merit round for Economics Hons. I was not able to land any college in North Campus on merit in 2021 because of the competitive scores everyone got in boards. However that year I had given DUJAT and that is how I got Khalsa in the first round of admission itself. Since it was the only college in North Campus that offered admission through DUJAT I locked my seat and never looked back. I did regret making this decision initially but looking back I think I make the right choice. Talking about DUJAT it was a competitive exam back then to get admission in professional courses like BMS, Business Economics and BBA. It was a very tough paper but it is only because of it that I could enjoy the famous North Campus life. The admission process is a lot different now and much more competitive. Now everyone has to go through CUET UG exams to get admission in any course in any college of DU. The merit system is no longer there for admission to UG programs in DU. I honestly think it is worth all the hard work to get into a good college in North Campus. The experience and fun is unparalleled.

Faculty

4

The teaching faculty of Khalsa is great. All the teachers are highly educated and knowledgeable. Majority of them make use of presentations to teach in classroom which is good. Also teachers are very open to discuss any issues the students might be facing not only in academics but otherwise career wise or in life. Not all teachers are open to such discussions of course, but the few who are will definitely prove to be great mentors. Though I did nit like the administrative staff much. They were a bit rude and cold at times. I won't be taking any names of specific faculty but I would say majority of my courses faculty was so great I believe I was blessed to have them. The exam structure is pretty much the same across Delhi University. Exams happen twice a year as DU follows the Semester system. A common registration platform is there for all UG courses where students register for the exams and pay the exam fees. Students also download the admit card from that site itself and then have to get it approved from their respective colleges' office. In my course we saw a 100 % pass ratio. I don't remember any of my classmates having to reappear for any exam. Our seniors had made a site online where study material, past year question papers and other relevant information was present which helped tons during exam preparation. A few of the good faculty did leave during my college time which did sadden me but we did get decent replacement.

Night Life

4

I have not had many night experiences since I did not reside closeby nor did I live in the hostel. However a few of my friends who did live in hostel or paying guests near Khalsa have had great time with their roommates. As it North Campus the famous Hudson lane is minutes away. Hudson lane has great cafes and restaurants many of which are pocket friendly and attract the student crowd in huge numbers. There is also the famous Tom Uncle Maggie Point and Sudama ki chai. Apart from that there are many vendors selling chaat and even burgers and pizza that attract a lot of students. For students living in or around Kamla Nagar there are a huge number of restaurants and cafes that operate till midnight. Kamla Nagar also has an array of shops from where one can buy things ranging from kitchen ware to clothes to even gift items. I do not have had much experience of Khlasa's night life hence I won't be able to do justice to it with my vague description.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Too vague to understand, feels extra burden of unnecessary irrelevant topics , extra papers like SEC/VAC simply add to the burden while barely providing with any skills and values as their name suggests . Studying them and preparing for exams add extra stress and unnecessary burden on them , diverting their focus from their core papers , which are already too huge and they study materials or readings simply fail to assist . Areas for improvement would be - proper structured study materials , also proper structured practical subjects / papers for students where they can actually learn or gain knowledge/skills which will be advantageous in their future .
