Last year gcect graduated to a centralised university level which talks highly of its excellence.It is the oldest ceramic engineering college of india and one of the best in its category.The management takes full initiatives in keeping the campus ragging

For admissions in the graduate course i had undertaken both GATE and WBUT-PGET however appearing in any one of the two entrances is sufficient for the admission. i chose this branch as it was the only option available to me for post graduation in a branch related to my undergraduation degree of chemical engineering.

The complete course was for two years divided into four semesters.The first three semesters were a mix of theory and lab practicals whereas the last sem largely consisted of dissertation and theory subjects.The subjects taught during ist year were mainly the basic subjects like glass technology,material science,mathematics which helped even students from non ceramic graduates to get a grasp in the field.there is a choice of electives between environmental engineering and film ceramics of which i chose the former because of its more resemblance to my earlier undergraduate curriculum.Third semester has subjects like advanced glass technology,bioceramics,thin film technology,polymer sciences that provide a deeper insight.The laboratory experiments included glass formation,analysis,cramic formation.The dissertion dealt with a exhaustive research in a particular topic under a designated professor.

There is no internship facilities available at the postgraduate level in the college.However stipends are available for gate qualified candidates as per national guidelines and fees remittance schemes are available for financially backward candidates.

There are not many companies coming for placements at the post graduate level however teachers assist personally the students by informing them about various openings and opportunities.For undergraduate level various companies like tcs,wipro,saint gobain come for campus placements.

An annual two day long techno-cultural fest is held at the college premises which focusses on many cultural activities and technical competitions at both inter and intra college level.Many celebrities are called for performances like last year lokkhichara band performed at the fest.Apart from this college freshers,farewell,saraswati puja and vishwakarma puja and seminars are held at the campus regularly.

The fees for post graduate courses are ?1500/month and a exam fees of ?500 is charged before the exams.a scholarship scheme is available for financially weak students which may be 50% or 100% monthly fees remittance(exam fees is mandatory)for availing. The scheme form is filled at the beginning of each year.

Loan can be easily availed from any nationalized bank.GATE scholarships are available as per national guidelines for qualified candidates having 75% attendance.Fees remittance schemes are also available for students from financially weak candidates on production of adequate evidence of income.

The gender ratio in my branch was relatively bad as i was the only girl in a class of seven.However the gender ratios are better at graduate levels and in other disciplines.No discrimination is made on the basis of cultural or linguistic differences and ragging is completely prohibited.

Hostel and mess facilities are not available.Most outstation students accomodate themselves in the nearby pgs located in college vicinity.As i was a day scholar i never had the opportunity to visit any of them but my classmates reported of average to abov

At the post graduate level one requires to associate with seniors on various projects for assistance which is a very enriching experience.Right from giving us welcome seniors have helped us to get acquainted with the college and faculty,shared lab files and project reports with us and also helped in getting exposure to the professional field by their useful advices.

The exams are held once every six months accounting for 80% of the scores.rest 20% is constituted by the two internal exams held for each subject per semester(6 months).Lab exams are held once every sem and it includes primarily report submission and viva
