Course Curriculum Overview

4

In the course curriculum we have both theory and lab subjects. The lab subjects are actually helpful in industry as well as improve our problem solving skills and also enhanced to tackle real life based problems based on critical thinking and logical reasoning. Also theory subjects are helpful for clarification of lab subjects sometimes also help us to get a clear idea about the subject and industry related problems. But somehow sometimes there are also some subjects which are actually not relevant in Computer Science course and also not that much impact and effect in industry. Also those subjects which are not that much important sometimes seemed very lengthy syllabus, which actually create problems sometimes.

Internships Opportunities

3

In our college companies like Codeclouds, Geotech, NIC, visits this year for internship. They offered various roles like Backend Developer, Business Associate Manager, Junior Software Engineer. Stipend offered by them approximately average of 8-10k /month.

Placement Experience

3

After the 6th semester we are eligible for the internship, also we can apply for both on campus and off campus placements. In our college some companies like Geotech, Infosys, Code Clouds, Unibit solutions visit every year. Average package is in the range of 3.5-5 Lakhs per annum and highest package is nearly 6-7Lpa. But post covid time our placement record decreased a bit. Nearly about 80-85% of CSE students get placed every year. Also I am currently appearing in interview of different companies for placement.

Fees and Financial Aid

As I belong to general category I have to pay 7200 per semester, and this is divided into two parts, i) tuition fees 6000,and exam fees 1200. But those students have TFW category they have to pay only exam fees 1200rs only. Aslo in our college SVMCM scholarship is applicable which is a yearly scholarship run by West Bengal government, and students get this scholarship after Higher Secondary examination after getting a decent marks of 60% in boards.

Campus Life

5

Overall I have a smooth college campus life experience. We have different clubs like music club, fashion club, dance club and also have different game activity facilities outdoors like badminton, table tennis, cricket, football, powerball, volleyball and indoors like chess, carrrom etc. Also we have a exciting robotics club where we can express and executed our innovative and unique ideas which makes our engineering life so exiting and memorable. Also healthy senior junior interaction, social, cultural, technical fests and events help to refresh mind and leada a smooth campus life.

Admission

I preferred this college because it is at a good location in Kolkata, which help me to access metro, bus, auto etc according to my need. Also I preferred this college after checking a good record of placement in past, also environment, games and pictures of social works held in collage campus or outside campus attracted me a lot. Also there is very small batch strength so teachers can focus accordingly on each and every student and also I got decent good reviews by ex students of this college.

Faculty

4

Faculty members are very helpful also provide proper guidance and depth clarification not only based on syllabus but also outside of box sometimes too. We have a exam pattern like 15marks of mid term 1 of each subject, then in similar pattern mid term 2 of 15 marks of each subject and a 75 marks end sem exam of each subject. Marks is calculated based on : Marks in mid term 1+ marks in mid term 2+ (2/3) marks of end sem.. Out of 100(15+15+(2/3)75)

Night Life

4

After a whole day class or a hectic examination week, we used to go to Subhas Sarobar for hangout, chit chats with friends. Nearby our college we have multiple little budget friendly cafeterias which we used to visit at least once or twice in a month, and in weekend we often prefer to visit nearby parks, tea shop gossips. During class breaks we visit canteen and library too to relax our mind and refresh, recharge the brain.

Course subjects are overall good for all branch. But, if a student is interested in giving competitive exams like GATE, then he must be facing problems as the semester course is more theoretical related and boring, the same old style education system.

Placement Experience:

The placement situation at IIT KGP is one of th e best among Engineering Colleges in India. With an average package of around 2200000 and overall placement percentage of around 80 (B.Tech+M.Tech). Students become eligible for placement either if they get PPO(Pre Placement Offer) from the company they are interning in in the 5th semester or when they are in the 7th semester when placement season begins. Around 1800 offers and 400 PPOs were made in phase 1 which includes 25 international offers. There were around 400 companies that visited. The highest offer was 21400000. Top profiles are Software, Data, Finance, Consulting, Quant and Core.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum under MAKAUT is quite comprehensive, which is one of the reasons I choose this course. With making the foundation strong in first year with subjects like maths, physics, chemistry and then the core subjects in the later years. In terms of real life application, lab work, project work and projects make us ready for the industry. The syllabus is also alligned with the competitive exams like GATE.

Placement Experience:

Before the placements were good enough like both on-campus and off-campus. The college really tried hard each year for placement offers and as i have heard from the seniors, it was quite good. But in recent times, there are literally no placement offers and even the college has given up. TPO that should manage such oppurtunities are of no good and they are not even trying a bit to bring it some companies for the placement rounds. Now only if you are good enough and know enough to crack off-campus placements, then its good.

The structure of curriculum is not so great. Definitely there is a scope for improvement . We are under MAKAUT university and through job readiness perspective the structure of curriculum is below average. Lots of inclusion of different subjects are needed along with the exclusion of lengthy monotonous subjects which doesn't yield any result.
