Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I had chosen this course as I want to study and deeply learn all the concepts of zoology in a post-graduation level. I also aimed that after my post-graduation, my participation in undergoing various training programmes, jobs, internship opportunities, and ventures would open for me. There were six faculty members and one lab attendant in my department. Out of which, two were associate professors and four were assistant professors. The faculty:student ratio was 11:3. The qualification of the faculty members was that four of them had completed their BSc, MSc, BEd, and PhD degree in their subjects. Two of them had completed their BSc, MSc, and BEd degree. All the professors had taken revision classes after completing each chapter/module. Surprise tests were also conducted before the final semester examinations. All the odd semester exams (1st and 3rd) and even semester exams (2nd and 4th) were held timely across the year. It was difficult to pass as the syllabus was lengthy and hard.

Fees and Financial Aid

In my college, the full fees for all the four semesters including laboratory fees had to be paid online by the candidate. There was no hike for the fees as it was paid in full amount to the college. The cost to study was Rs. 8310 in total including all lab charges, electricity charges, tuition fees, etc. I had availed the Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship (SVMCM) which was provided by the Government of West Bengal. I got a total amount of Rs. 60000 for my four semesters. No job placements were conducted in our college.

Campus Life

4

There was an annual fest conducted in our college for all the students in the month of September last. The availability of books and journals were available in the central library of our college. Apart from that, one departmental library was also present where the students could issue books based on their requirement. Many newspapers, articles, journals and encyclopaedias were also present for the students to provide information significantly. There were all amenities available like benches, tables, blackboard and AV board along with a projector installed on the ceiling. All types of outdoor and indoor games, CCA activities like dance, yoga, arts, etc were available on the campus of our college. I had joined the sports club and quiz club in my college. I had also attended the inter-college cricket tournament on behalf of my college.

Admission

The admission process was as usual like other colleges. There was an entrance test for this course. I had to fill the application form online with my BSc marks obtained. The full marks for the entrance exam was 50 and out of which 40-42 was the cut off for General category students. The eligibility of the course was that the candidate must have passed BSc Honours with Zoology as a subject from a recognised college/university. The application dates and application fees were all available online for the online test in the college website As a general category student, I had not availed any reservation benefits. As an improvement, I would suggest to declare the entrance test results within 2 days in the college website for all subjects and seats available in each department.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My decision to choose this course depended on the fact that this course provides you with the opportunity to get various jobs in the industries with a high lpa. But this college does not help much in that aspect. All I had to do was myself. It is my humble opinion that the institution should improve its guidance in the area of its teaching methods. The exams were twice a year and were quite difficult on their own.

Biotechnology is a highly demanding course in today's world. The syllabus for this course is mostly around bookish knowledge and you have to gather outside knowledge on your own. There must be an internship for every student arranged by department itself in various other institues or labs for practical work experience.
